Marino Bar Prep came highly reviewed. It operates a little differently than most bar prep services, and the technology isn't quite as sophisticated as Barbri or Themis, but the quality is outstanding. I'd also highly recommend their tutors. McKenzie in my case was outstanding. I took the Bar twice before and received the same score. On my third attempt I used Marino and my score went up 25 points and I was able to pass. The system is much more understandable and practical compared to the other programs I took. The response times from the tutors and administrators was very quick and always helpful. I took this course as a first-time taker because they had a great reputation with second-time takers, my father was pushing it, and figured I'd try it the first time. When I signed up, they told me that if you get 20+ tutor sessions they have a 96% pass rate via email. I failed the bar. They never emailed me to see if I passed or not, so I can't imagine their 96% pass rate is an accurate number because that they're not asking 100% of their students what their results were. Joseph Marino died and now his son runs the company, and it's not the same as it once was glorified to be. Not to mention, the son didn't really seem like a trustworthy guy in his video lectures, so I wouldn't be surprised if he just made that passage rate number up. During practice, within two weeks of the bar, I was scoring 68-72% on Marino's MBE practice questions. On the date of the exam, my MBE score was 55%. The numbers don't add up. I don't know how they source their MBE questions but they might be outdated. I did however pass the writing section, although I barely passed. I knew all the law on their memory boosters cold, and felt it simply was not enough law to pass or their writing style is outdated. My tutor Kristina was nice and I liked her although I felt there was never real organization to our meetings and I had to lead the meetings with information I didn't know instead of her helping me tackle my weak spots by reviewing work that I did. If you do take this course, I'd recommend at least supplementing different MBE questions/ use it for the writing since that's what their really known for read more

Although I did not attend their bar review, I did partake of their CLE program and attend one of their all day CLE bundle. It was well priced and a good way to get the Credits for annual reporting and the speakers were decent. The warning is that the speakers and bundle are subject to flux and change at the last minute. So what you are promised as lectures can be changed without notice. Also the venues are not always the best for participation. At the Newark museum there were no desks and parking was not great. If you are looking for a way to get your CLE done at a cheap price, this is a good way to do it. However, NJICLE offers a wider choice of courses and more in depth with more developed speakers. read more

I failed the bar exam the first time I took it, which crushed me, but then I found Marino after hearing about it from a friend. I was surprised at how much of a change it was from my first bar review course, the material was taught in a way that made it easier for me to memorize and I think the tutoring really helped my score improve, particularly on the MBE section, which was my weakness. A friend of mine recommended Marino Legal Academy to get continuous legal education classes. I specified that my jurisdiction is California and they sent me a bundle for NY. I sent them an email - no response. I called and was told that I was provided the correct bundle. I was not at my computer at that time so took their word for it. I opened their classes again and saw that everywhere it mentions New York and New Jersey, no CA anywhere, so they actually sent me a wrong bundle. Sent them another email - no response. I just got back my results in the past week and I passed the uniform bar exam! I am ecstatic but pretty surprised honestly as I have failed several times before this exam. I am glad I went with Marino - it turned out to be a very good decision. This is a very different type of preparation course than the others I took in the past couple of years which were intended for first time test takers. The retaker course here is more of program where they actually show you step by step how to answer the exam questions, its not just giving you laws to memorize. I took the Marino Bar Review Course or the July 2017 Bar Exam. After trying other courses, I decided to give Marino a try and IT WORKED! It was very personalized, from the introduction call to target my needs to the selection of a tutor, everything was exceptional! I think the Memory Boosters are one of the most powerful key the Course offers (in addition to tutoring). The Booster thoroughly explain all the areas of law in a way very easy to digest. Lastly, what really helped me a ton was the way the book analyzed the multiple-choice questions, it didn't only give you the right answer but explains why the others were wrong; which was a game-changer for me. read more

I took Marino for the July 2017 bar exam in NY. And it worked, I passed! I found the memory boosters to be the most helpful part of the course as they efficiently summarized all of the most frequently tested concepts and rules. The customer service was good - they responded to my questions usually within a day, never longer than 2 days. I did feel like I could use more tutoring sessions after the 3 hours, which are included in the course, but the cost of additional tutoring was too much for me since I already paid $1500 for this and $3000 the previous year for another Bar course. But all in all, if you can afford the $1500, I recommend this program for retaking the bar exam. read more

I took Marino's Bar course for the February 2019 Bar Exam and passed! I truly appreciated the way in which you could individualize the course to your specific needs. They responded quickly to any questions I had and always gave me fast feedback on my essays and MPTs. Furthermore, the course gives you three hours of free tutoring. I worked with Kristina (one of Marino's bar tutors) for three hours discussing a proper study schedule and the proper way to write bar essays. We even went over a different approach to handling the MPT. My favorite part of the course are the Memory Boosters. I primarily worked with them to help memorize rules and exceptions. It's far better than any condensed outline you would get with a commercial course. Although I also had a tutor I hired outside this course, Marino was a key reason I passed and have already recommended it to my friends that are taking the bar for the first time or second. Plus, they call you a few days before the exam and leave you with encouraging words, which is a nice touch! read more

Whatever you do save your money on the re-taker course. They will try and sucker you in with the 3 free hours of tutoring. They use up the first hour going over BS, the second hour you go over an essay and if you're really lucky in the third hour you can spend 30 min on an MPT and 30 min on an Essay. So the tutoring is pretty much worthless your better off staying with the program that gives you a free review. The "memory boosters" that they swear by are sub par when compared to Kaplan, Barbri, or Pieper condensed outlines. You will find yourself going back to your old material because it is simply that much better. Furthermore, the lack of prompt grading turnover for essays and MPT's, will leave you in a state of added stress and disbelief as to how much they really give little to no care about your passing. The Adapti-Bar program that comes with the "re-taker package," is somewhat legit, it is loosely based off of Kaplans MBE practice and analysis program, but does not include any NYMCQ's to practice, and Marino's course doesn't make up for this, unless you count the 50 questions in the local practice day that you get, but hey who needs practice right. Follow this up with Marino's tea sipping and overall disgusting video presence and your in for a treat with this bar prep. You'll leave amazed at how efficient they are at taking your money and pumping you toward purchasing more tutor hours. In all seriousness, that's really what the retaker course is, they give you just enough to wear you will need more guidance to make it through. Unfortunately, some of us need the extras and so Marino turns a dime as our hair turns grey. In short, if you need the money from your previous bar review, then you have two options: 1) you can short change yourself by going with Marino and praying for the best outcome possible. Or 2: you can just take your free retake and pan-handle for the extra dough you need. Trust me on this one, the pan-handling will be a lot less stressful than dealing with the trolls at Marino Legal.
