The drive out from Columbus was pleasant, we took one of the state routes all the way and it was pretty direct. I'd recommend against using the "Second Entrance" when you get to the location. It was very hilly and the turn in to the festival route was a blind left turn at almost the top of a hill on another rural state route where you couldn't see the oncoming traffic. One of those "honk and pray" kind of turns. The festival is set up in a semi-permanent location (the location stays, different fairs come and go) where they have little wooden stalls for the vendors and a well maintained walking path. The overall theme is kind of country chic, but if that isn't your style, it's just a fun afternoon, and there are lots of bath and body products, fudge, and FOOD to keep you going. OMG, the food. It was very crowded when we visited, and by the time we were ready for lunch, the food area was packed, but organized. Each vendor had an IN and an OUT line, and there were lots of options (soup, pizza, hot and cold sandwiches, fries, desserts, etc.) On our way out, we got smoked turkey legs for dinner, and I'm still working on that sucker. We had the best corndogs ever from Bite Me Corndogs, but there were lots of other interesting options, not limited to the usual fair stuff. There were games and small rides, firetrucks, etc. Not a huge event, which is fine for us, especially with the baby. Come for an hour or so, or come see a show- they had several interesting bands scheduled, plus a car show.

It was canceled last year wild in 2025 due to airport construction. They are refusing to refund my money now. This is unacceptable. I will be contacting the better BBB regarding this. But would not have if it wasn't for his sister. She gets a spot each year. She goes early to mark her territory/spot. Usually there is another family there, but not this year. Also usually some friends of the kids also come, but alas no one else this year. There is a different act each year, we have seen some bands that I would not have been able to see in my youth. So I am thankful for that as well as my country, my health and my family. Peter Frampton was this year. We saw Little Richard a few years ago. Two years ago we took my mother, all the walking wasn't good for her. But she did have a good time watching the band and the fireworks. The only thing she had a problem with were the dogs. Go figure we had dogs my whole life and I didn't know my mom doesn't like dogs.

Here's the trick: it's really crowded and there's no where to park. We got to the Dublin rec center just before they started and then stayed in the car in the air conditioning right next to a great viewing area. It was super hot this year--hottest 4th I can remember, so watching from the car worked out perfect. I wouldn't travel too far to see these, but if you are already close by they are worth it.

Activities: there's a kids area with a small kids train (I also saw adults hop on), a paintball area, 2 huge bounce areas, a corn pot, apple orchard, a small pond. and so much more! There are also pumpkin donuts - which I really wanted, but they were sold out when I arrived. Definitely recommend stopping by for some family/friend/solo fun!

A little Groveport history: Back in the day, Groveport was 2 settlements - Wert's Grove and…read moreRarey's Port. Wert's Grove was settled primarily as an orchard and the streets on this side of the village reflect that (Cherry, Oak, Walnut, Grove, etc.) Although there isn't an Apple Street, the residents of Groveport decided Apple Butter Day was a good way to remember the town's start and bring together the community. Volunteers start weeks before the festival making apple butter from scratch using manual methods (i.e. a copper kettle over a fire and a wooden stirrer on a long pole). Most of this is canned for people to buy at the festival (or at the Heritage Center throughout the year), but some is saved to be reheated the day of the festival and sold with thick pieces of homemade bread for $2 a slice. If nothing else, I have to get a slice of this bread!! In the meantime, there is entertainment (animals and pony rides for the kids, live music, apple butter making demos, etc.), food (churches and youth groups make better than your average fair food and fudge, lots of fudge), and vendors (get your Christmas shopping done early!). I think that this event is getting better as it goes on. This last one was packed with people and there was enough going on to keep us down there for several hours!
