Mario's Upholstery had not had a business license in Paso since 2018. Just checked with the City.

I gave him $475 (for material)and 2 club chairs 2 years ago. Everything from broken ribs, trips to Mexico and now someone's in jail and still nchairs....he says they are in Bakersfield in a storage unit but the guy he pawned them off on is in jail. It will be 2 years in April that I have been dealing with him.......makes me sick that someone like this can do business. DO NOT take anything to him. It will be gone and what can you do about it?!?!? I would give minus stars if I could....update as of 2/8/19. Mario gave me my chairs back and claimed to have no material and no $$ to pay me back. What has happened to this business and their integrity! I took a chair in for a new slipcover, SEVEN months later after me threatening to sue, I got my chair back with the "new" slipcover..........ABSOLUTELY THE WORST JOB POSSIBLE!!!!!! I'm so angry and horrified, I paid him in full, the ultimate insult! I won't sue now, I'm out the money, my original slip cover is gone so there's no decent pattern for another upholsterer to work from. Now, I will have to pay even more money to have the chair redone! I could have bought a new chair for what I've spent! Beware, Mario will give you excuse after excuse, run away as fast as you can!!!!!!!!!! I took a chance on this guy before reading the horrible reviews. Dirty shop, but I just had a small job (3 hours labor he said). Mario seemed like a nice little guy who could use the work. Job was promised back in 3 days to 1 week. After 5 weeks of delays, promises, and many lame excuses I questioned him about the delays and he gets an attitude and tells me he has plenty of work and my job is not worth his time. Also, his business phone is disconnected and his shop is often not open during business hours due to "problems". So, do not expect any type of normal, efficient service or customer courtesy...delays, excuses and problems, yes. You are warned! Go somewhere else. read more

I would not given him not even 1 star , I came i'm with my boat to get the seats redone and the carpet redone the price was $1800.00 give him $900.00 picked out the material and carped he ordered it the next week I brought my boat down the seats came out the boat came back home. A month and a half my husband went down to check on the seat progress and the seats were still sitting in the same place and he said a lady was sewing the strip's together at her house there are 3 stripes in the middle red, yellow, orange at this time my husband cut out 2 pieces of wood out of the sheet of marine plywood we bought to replace the wood under the seats because it was 15 yrs old and rotten, he left. 2 months came husband went down to check same thing seats in same place nothing don't same story at lady's house, he left. I waited a week I called him and said I had a lake trip planed in 2 week and the boat better be ready we had reservations at the lake so this is a 2 week warning to get it done, he said it would this time next week we could bring the boat down and the carpet will go in the the seats and it will be done. The next week I called on Wed. he said he had a problem as usual it would not be until next wed. to bring the boat down I told him Fri I was going to the lake for my trip he said no problem. The following Wed. brought the boat down and now he says a guy was doing the seats while he was doing the carpet I'm thinking this is to fucked up so I leave. The next morning I get a call from Mario telling me there is a problem the guy that was doing the seats has not done them so they are not done at all so he was going to work on them all weekend and during the week so I missed my lake trip and $240.00 for reservations. So now I pissed. I get a call Wed night its done I go Thurs morning to pick it up 1st thing none of the wood under the seats have replaced even no the wood had been purchased I was pissed he kept saying the wood is good I'm saying its not he says bring it back in 2 yrs and I will replace it fro free what do you mean free I already payed for it. the carped in the front there is a big square hole that life jackets go in it was cut so jackass my husband asked whats up with the cut he said well you have a plat that go's over it we said there is no plate that go's over it and even if there was it still should be cut even a kid could do a better job than this. I was so pissed I just left went to my friends house told her got my boat lets go check it out. Now its in the light not in his shop the 1st thing she noticed at the bottom of 1 of the seats it cut all the way around he took the material folded it up and re stapled it trying to hide it I freaked out its about a 4 inch cut next to it there is a inch rip on the other side there is not enough material to even staple to the wood its like that on all corners, on the top of the seats there is no foam the wood is right against the material it will rip from vibration all the top seam are crooked, the carpet is not glued down because he did not git the old carped , glue and the sand off the bottom of the boat. There is more I could go on and on I have been so upset when I called him the next day and tole hip that I was so SADDEN and UPSET over the HORRIBLE job he did and he said what I said how could you give my seats that are ripped and you tried to hide it with folding the material over he says what are you talking about I said I took pictures when I got the boat home I can't believe that someone that claims to have 30 yrs experience does work like this I feel very SAD for you he says I did just what was in the boat I replied you thing so thing your really fucking krazy 15 yrs old they still don't have any rips in the seat and you give seats with rips all I cam say is I really feel sorry for you. 3 months and this is what I get I think I could have done a better job really DON"T GO HERE, DON"T GO HERE DON"T GO HERE read more

He is a fraud! Very unpleasant experience with Mario's Upholstery. He took my $350.00 down payment to refurbish two vintage family chairs... eight months later still did not have anything to show for it but two ripped apart chairs that he broke the backs on. Was tired of the weekly run around and just wanted chairs back. He refused to pay me my full down payment. I would not return too or recommend this business. Let me start this off by saying if I could give 0 stars I would. I brought Mario a job back in January to have a pair of bucket seats done, told me no problem would be ~ 3 weeks. Checked back in at the 3 week mark and he still didn't even have the material, figured ok supply issues happen. This continued, delays like this, well couldn't get that done because of this. Turns out Mario doesn't know how to sew, the owner of the upholstery business can't do any sewing he has his wife do it. And if there's anything going on with her your job gets delayed. After going back and forth like this 5 months later I show up to pick up my completed seats and instead I get one partially assembled seat and one in pieces with him saying he can't do it take them somewhere else. Took them to another shop in SLO and had them done in 3 weeks. But I was missing some pieces to the seats and others were broken, went back to Mario to try to get him to cover the losses and he agreed. But even this got delayed several times, didn't have the money because of this or that showed up when he said and he only had part of it, told me to come back the following Monday. I came back Tuesday to give him the benefit of the doubt, when I got there he told me he didn't have it and I called him out on the fact that this whole ordeal has taken 6 months and it was ridiculous. He proceeded to grab a pair of SHEARS off his bench point them at me and start coming towards me telling me to get out of his shop. Not only did this business owner break and lose several parts of my seats costing me several hundred dollars replacing them, he pulled a pair of shears for cutting leather on me when I called him out on the bs. I'm not an expert but I wouldn't call that the proper way to treat a customer in a small area like this. Needless to say I will not be returning to this shop and I feel sorry for anyone else who has the mispleasure of dealing with this man. read more
