My rating is for the food and great service. You'll see why. I didn't know what to expect here... walked in and thought we had to order up front. We were sat down and given menus. The horchata in a fancy cup helped lighten the mood. The food is great! The service was pretty darn good too! My fav was the La Mazateña shrimp. They were fabulous! On another note and not part of the review, the restrooms- they were in the back, attached to the back room where people were eating. there was a sign pointing down a hallway that pointed to restrooms. Went down and thought the lights would turn on. They didn't. Someone came from out of the dark. Surprise?!?! Phone light out. Ah, women's. No light in there. I was desperate. I went in w phone light. Realized that someone else was in there going too. They got out of the stall and tried to switch the light on, and nope. Finished going, light randomly turns on. Wash and go go go!
I had been here before and thought the fried shrimp tacos were okay, so I decided to give the restaurant another try. Unfortunately, this second visit was disappointing. We ordered the fried fish, and it arrived with a fried fly stuck in it. Obviously, finding an insect in your food is unpleasant. I understand that flies can sometimes get into restaurants and mistakes can happen. What bothered me most was not the fly itself, but how the situation was handled. When we brought it to the attention of the person in charge, instead of simply apologizing and offering a refund, he tried to justify what happened. A sincere apology and immediate resolution would have gone a long way. Accidents happen, but customer service and accountability matter. Sadly, the response left a worse impression than the mistake itself. And our waitress had the worse service. . I called her to ask for more lemon and she rolled her eyes at us.
Mazateño Otay Mesa Tijuana. Great service, really tasty food. Would come here and dine again, and again, and again. Highly recommended.

Best octopus tacos, this is a must if you're in TJ! We came on a Saturday before noon and found a table right away, but when we left there was a line so try to go early if you want to beat the lunch rush. We ordered 6 tacos for 3 people plus ceviche and it was too much food, but it was all delicious. The tacos are big and filling. Our favorite was the octopus, then octopus and shrimp combo, shrimp, fish, and lastly the fish chicharron. The ceviche was also really good, but came out last and we were all pretty full by then but took it to go and enjoyed it later. They also serve you a seafood consome in the beginning with salsa, cabbage, and fresh chips. The crema and green salsa they give you is also a must on every taco! And the chips lol. The waitress was very nice and a man came and sang live. It was a great experience and the food was top notch!
Great spot, delicious food and friendly staff. We were recommended by a friend, this place did not disappoint! We came during lunch hour and we still received fast service. It about 10min away from all the major surgery spots (in downtownTijuana) and very easy to get to. Parking is a bit difficult but not impossible-to find with a little patience. I orders a shrimp cocktail and it was delicious, I did not need to add anything and I am very pick when it comes to shrimp cocktails. I also had a spicy crunchy octopus taco which I am not a very bug fan of octopus but it was surprisingly delicious. I also ordered a shrimp taco and not only was it huge (enough to make 2 tacos out of one) it was also very delicious! The wife ordered a mazatena quesadilla which was huge and delicious. We did not try the lemonade but I was told it was one of their delights. Overall, this place gets a 10/10 and will be my go-to-spot for seafood whenever I come to Tijuana!
We've read good reviews on this place so we took a 20 min Uber ride from Avenida Revolucion (downtown area) and we must say, it was worth it! It was pretty packed when we got there around 1:30 pm. It's huge and perfect for groups. Service is really friendly and very accommodating despite us not speaking any Spanish. Note that looks like all of the tacos are served in flour tortilla. Not sure if you can substitute it with corn. We usually prefer the latter but we find that seafood pairs really well with flour. What we got: Their special: La Mazateña (shrimp enchilada) - the cook on the shrimp is spicy and flavorful! I can also taste a bit of butter where it was probably sautéed in. It also has mozzarella cheese! The fixings like salsa, shredded lettuce, and other condiments are served on the side so you can easily modify any taco to your liking. We find the white creamy sauce works perfect to tone down the spiciness + a generous squeeze of lime! Camaron a la mantequilla (butter shrimp) - we got two of these since this was the taco that compelled us to visit. Now on one of my top 4 most favorite tacos of all time, the shrimp is perfectly cooked, seasoned, and the addition of oozing and generous butter makes this one perfect. It's more simple than the shrimp enchilada and less spicy for sure. You HAVE to order this! Crunchy pulpo (octopus) - My fiance ordered this one and he loved it. Seems like they used the same spices that they did with the shrimp enchilada. I'm personally not a fan of octopus but I gave it a try and I loved its flavors and definitely the crunchiness was an added appeal. Fish tacos - we just had to try their fried fish tacos since we're in Baja, where I'm assuming it's originally from. Sadly we were too full at this point but the taco was served with two big pieces of fish that is fried to golden brown. In the States, they usually just serve it with one piece so that alone gives this one an edge. Horchata - we ordered two horchatas and were surprised to see how huge they were! Served in a very heavy yet beautiful glassware. This horchata was refreshing and also helped eased the hotness of everything a bit. Special mention to the seafood soup and chips they serve complimentary as a starter. The seafood soup was my fiance's most favorite item on our table. It was rich, hot, and very comforting. We loved dipping the chips into it as well. Overall, our bill came to around $30 USD! Some reviews here say it's basically paying for San Diego prices but I'd have to say, with the quality of their seafood, it's worth the price!
A quick trip to Tijuana for some yummy and authentic tacos and ceviche. This restaurant is known for its classic Mazatena (sautéed shrimp) tacos. I also enjoyed fish and shrimp ceviche with tortas. Highly recommended
Delicious tacos! Cant go wrong with the crunchy octopus and shrimp tacos... fast service also it an outdoor kind place! You need to know someone to speak Spanish or you can just do it old school and point at the picture... read more

The food is tasty. Service was good. They took our orders and we received food in a timely manner. They brought our extra sides when we asked. I also got a mineral water with lemon, which was tart. Parking is ok. We parked on the street walking distance. I liked the open atmosphere. read more

Great spot, delicious food and friendly staff. We were recommended by a friend, this place did not disappoint! We came during lunch hour and we still received fast service. Wow, I think I'm on my 20th taco in three days and this is by far, hands down the best I've had. Had the octopus and shrimp! The green sauce is to die for. Good fast service too! read more

First off as soon as you walk in the waiters are attentive and friendly. As soon as you sit down you get consomé, chips, and salsa as a starter. The food was delicious! If you're in the area give it a try! read more
I decided to come to TJs and only eat at taquerias. I went to multiple ones and they're all really, really solid. Like 8 out of 10. I had only one complaint: at every place I went to there wasn't really a salsa bar. So all the tacos get served with lime and radishes which is cool, but I'm used to having a salsa bar with pickled onions, pickled carrots, different salsas, etc. If any one of these places had this, the tacos would have been amazing! I'm actually going to copy and paste this portion to all the places I went to then my 2nd para I'l go into detail on what I ordered. So I only ordered the shrimp taco and it's so full of shrimps! It's kinda crazy. They also put melted cheese in it though I could have used more cheese. You also get a small serving of fish consume and it's stupid good. I was really amazed at the free consume you get. So come here for a shrimp taco! read more

I've wanted to try this place for years ever since I saw it featured on MEXICO One Plate at a Time, the Tijuana taco crawl episode. The first taco listed is their namesake taco "El Mazateño ". It is a taco with cheese and spiced shrimp and it tastes great. I also ordered the spicy octopus (pulpo) which is similar but made with crunchy octopus. I think I liked this one even more. Cash only. Get the consume, its to coat your stomach, and that thing is pack of flavor. But be careful, that thing will burn your fingers if you spill it on yourself, know from experience. The best darn shrimp and octopus tacos, super flavorful and spicy too. Highly recommended! read more
Incredible. I don't say this lightly but some of, if not the best, seafood tacos I've had in my life. Just check out the pictures from this place - rest assured knowing it tastes as good as it looks. Even at 2pm on a weekday, this place was bustling with a FULL HOUSE. Upon ordering, my dining companion and I quickly learned why. The food is incredible - fresh grilled seafood and unbelievably flavorful salsa make for an unbeatable combination. Bravo, Mariscos el Mazateno! read more

Ooooooooooh can I pls give 6 stars. Let's get the easy stuff out of the way. The parking is a little tough because there's so much around the restaurant. seating is quick. the place is packed the staff is friendly. They first start you off with consome that is so good in flavor you can't help but but ask for more fresh pico de gallo and plenty of salsa options and chips. I ate so much here lost count of the taco we had. The top favorite of the night was the marlin tacos so much cheese and and shredded fish perfectly seasoned fried shrimp tacos were loaded with shrimp the grilled shrimp enchilado tacos and pulpo enchilados tacos both worth a second order the fired fish was huge and fresh no need to go to the beach read more

The tacos are FIRE! Come here for brunch on a Saturday and your culinary outlook on the meaning of life will change!! With 5000+ reviews on google, there's a reason why this restaurant is a local favorite! The food: We tried the Pulpo, Marlin, and Shrimp tacos (devoured the Pulpo and didn't take a pic) ...all were delicious and just what you would expect! Parking: You can park across the street next to the Chevron. Look for two orange cones and a parking attendant. Tip 2-3 bucks and you are good all day. Don't park in front of the restaurant that is located to the left of the public parking area. It may look closed if you arrive before 11am. But they open at 11am and tow cars straight away. Drinks - The Jamaica is fresh. They have a beverage station in the dining room making fresh drinks to order. Surprise experience! There is a street market surrounding the restaurant for blocks on end. After eating your way through a few tacos, walk it off and check out an authentic street market. It's super safe! Tip - the journey there and back is an adventure. Slow down and take in the views. You are in for a treat. read more

Although there were a lot of people, their service was pretty quick. The ambiance of the crowd and the various families that came in and sat gave me a feeling that this place was going to taste authentic and good. I ordered the shrimp tacos, fish tacos (taco de pescado) , and the octopus (pulpo tacos). Of the three, the fish was my favorite, just because I haven't had a decent one around my home town, and I've had a lot of different fish tacos. Another good order is the shrimp aquachile. I think i tastes better than the ceviche. Graded sashimi shrimp, avocado, onions and cucumbers all French in their water Chile sauce. They bring out the tostado and crackers so you can dip it with the shrimp aquachile. Highly recommend this place if you are going through TJ for a quick bite. read more

The best spot for the tastiest mariscos, hands down. Their signature taco is La Mazateña which comes overflowing with shrimp in chile sauce and cheese served on two corn tortillas. Or, you can upgrade for a few pesos more and get the Super Mazateña on flour tortillas. It comes naked and you add your own toppings, which they have on the table and include cabbage, pico de gallo, guacamole, crema, and limes. There are probably four or five different hot sauces in bottles to choose from as well. My other favorites are the marlin and good old fashioned fish tacos. Again, the portions are generous and always piping hot. It's cash only so be prepared for that. read more
