Clean, small community park, located in heart of Amherst, behind the Amherst police station…read more Recently visited for a fire fly hike that was guided, by the NYS Parks Department; Catol Rodgers. Interesting facts learned on fireflies: they like leafy dark areas, eat slugs, and snails and really lite up the park. Paved trail, not very long, perfect for quick walk or hike to explore the many trees. Family, everyone friendly.

Went to this park with my son and his two children under eight years of age (7 & 5). It was the…read moreperfect length to get through without hearing the children complain that they were tired of walking. This is such a beautiful park to enjoy a nice walk, jog, a bike ride or to go fishing (no spots to play sports of any kind here). There are a couple small grassy areas you can sit with a blanket and have a small picnic, eat lunch or bring your own lawn chair and enjoy a book. Plenty of benches to sit down, relax and enjoy the view of the water. In addition, the trees provide lots of shaded areas to appreciate as you walk through the paved trail on a hot summer day. Lastly, there are a lot of droppings from the geese (the children were stressing about avoiding it). I didn't see a playground during my walk but there is a very nice playground available for the children in front of the library that is located adjacent to the park entrance - you'll see it. I used my GPS to get here and parked at the courthouse parking lot, there was a path to where the trail starts - in my photos. Bring bug spray and sunblock in the summer and enjoy a stroll after a good meal. Rated this park four stars because I would probably only come back to take a walk if I'm already in the area but there's nothing here you absolutely have to see if you were visiting Buffalo. However, the park is beautiful and serene. If there was more to do or picnic tables for families to sit and eat, I would give it five stars.

For many years I always said that I would one day get a kayak. Fast forward a few years later, and…read morethis past spring I made my dream come true. I purchased a Field & Stream Blade 80 Kayak, which fits perfectly inside my Jeep and allows me to be independent when kayaking, as I don't need help trying to hoist it onto my Jeep's roof, etc. This was my first kayak launch experience. The kayak launch is very busy. There are two launches. While there on a Tuesday night, the skies were grey and there was a threat of rain, but I wanted to get out on the water and use my kayak for the first time. There were many groups of people who were filing in and out of the kayak launch. We passed by a few kayakers as well, in our group. I found a Meetup group and the 5 of us went down the water toward the Niagara River and where Canal Fest is held every year in July. The kayak launch facility is very nice. Why did I only rate this site 3 stars? The Canadian geese! That's why! Although, they are nice to look at and watch, their excrement is everywhere. Watch where you step when you bring your kayak to the launch. Maybe don't wear open toed shoes either. There is a port-o-potty on site that everyone in my group used, but me. I guess it was maintained, but it still doesn't entice me to use it. There is also a path that runs through this area next to the canal. There was also a picnic bench to gather with friends. There is ample parking as well. There is also a dock next to the kayak launch.

A big open park with a little bit of everything for its many visitors! It's been a while since…read morewe've visited, and it was a great return! Shelters are available and a clean bathroom also. Lots of parking areas. The only disappointment to this great park was the lack of respect the people have, by leaving trash any and everywhere. It doesn't take even a minute to hold on to your trash till you come across a trash bin. Easy as pie! At one shelter occupied by a huge group of people, there was trash everywhere! People don't need to be told, they just need to think of collecting trash till a suitable time and place is possible to dispose PROPERLY of the trash! Unfortunately, there are more people who trash parks and Nature, than are those who respect our parks and Nature by NOT trashing the environment. On the bright side, this IS indeed a great place to spend a few minutes or even longer!

Plenty of shelters to have events, open fields, You can watch people playing cricket or a frisbee / golf game that I don't understand, but I do enjoy watching. There are bridges that go over the creek. The park is well-maintained. There are not too many wooded areas but there are nice walking trails on both blacktop and grass to get your steps in. It is a large park with a lot of space and a great place to have a picnic or just sit and read.
