In our first meeting with Mark, we were walking out to his car to view some homes and a random person drove up and called out to us that Mark was the best realtor. After a lengthy home search, I would have to agree with that person. We were re-locating from the Bay Area and were looking for a rural home with very specific criteria. For those who have not looked for a rural home, it is not the same as picking a city and looking at homes. There can be long drives to get between homes and it is a very time consuming process. We were looking to buy a home in the Folsom/El Dorado Hills/Cameron Park area, but since we never lived there, we had no real estate contacts. I was a little skeptical at first of using Yelp to find a real estate agent, as I used to be self-employed and believe heavily in the word-of-mouth referral system. My wife and I had been looking to relocate to somewhere more affordable and conducive to raising a family had narrowed down our search to the region around El Dorado Hills. We initially were looking for places with acreage and found several homes we wanted to take a look at, including one open house that we planned to attend. After several days and several futile attempts to get ahold of agents that different friends "highly recommended," I began to search online. I found Mark on Yelp at 10pm the night prior to the open house I mentioned, and sent him a brief email explaining that we were from out of the area and were first-time home buyers who knew nothing about the process. Within 20 minutes I received an email reply that was very informative and detailed. Mark was fully booked the next day, but agreed to be our agent and then the next morning called the listing agent of the open house and let her know that we would be coming by. Knowing that we were coming from out of the area and wanting to make the most of our trip, he then got right on figuring out exactly what we were in search of and came up with a list of appointments for us to see the following day. From our very first email and initial meeting with Mark, we were absolutely astounded by how awesome he was and knew that we were in great hands. His communication was second to none and it was obvious how well he knows his profession. Everything he told us was spot on and every time we had a question he got us an answer ASAP. Mark consistently made himself available by call, text and email at all times of day. Whenever we found a place that we were interested in checking out, Mark would immediately get in touch with the selling agents and gather up as much info as he possibly could. This made it easy to write off some places before wasting time checking them out. (We were going to be using a VA-secured loan and therefore would need to abide by certain criteria set forth by that process.) As luck would have it, at the time we began looking for homes the market also picked up and many places that had been on the market for a while then entered contract the day we toured them, or within a day or two thereafter. Very limited new inventory was coming on the market and most of the new inventory was outside of our budget. We began to get discouraged, but Mark kept us optimistic and helped us actively brain-storm other options. He even set up a meeting at his office where he brought in a highly respected home builder who then was able to go over the whole process of buying a parcel of land and building a home from scratch. They covered everything from the county permit process to ways to make it fit our budget. (Keep in mind that agents make their living off of a percentage of the sale value of a home/property, so helping us buy a parcel of land that would fit our budget would only bring in about 1/3rd the commission that a regular house would)- Mark never once tried to discourage this and it was very obvious that client satisfaction was his utmost priority. Once we figured out that buying a parcel of land and building a home was not within the realm of the VA loan and our budget, we began looking at homes in town. We soon found one that we loved and put an offer on it. Again, I knew absolutely nothing about buying a home, but Mark communicated everything along the way and made it one of the easiest things I have ever done. His customer service and ability to coordinate with all of the other professionals affiliated with the process was top notch.
