This has 'rebranded' to Max's Bar and Bistro but there's no listing for it yet. We have never been…read morethere for dinner so this is a new experience for us regardless. The location is on Gibbs Street, right across from the Eastman Theater. It's located in a large building that has part of the Eastman school inside. The foyer/lobby is huge and it over looks a nice park. The restaurant itself isn't that large but a nice cozy space, decorated in gray/white with art prints. Our server was lovely and we were well attended. It gets a bit noisy with the bar but not too bad. The specials were plentiful. We ended up having the clam appetizer which was spectacular. Just a really hearty dish we could share. Clam broth was just divine. My husband had the duck which was cooked perfectly and I had a haddock dinner that was the best fish I've eaten in a long time. It was on top of roasted veg and topped with a relish. Really amazing. Price points were higher for the entries but to be honest, worth every penny.

Went there for a romantic date night & unfortunately was disappointed with the atmosphere. It was…read morenot what we expected. It's inside a building complex and feels more like a hotel restaurant than a stand alone. Our server was wonderful. The appetizers - bread, Camembert cheese, French onion, beet salad - were delicious. I ordered the special: crab stuffed trout wrapped in bacon and enjoyed it, but, while I was in the restroom my boyfriend overheard a member of the kitchen staff talking about how it is common practice at this restaurant to take the "fish that is getting older" and "wrap it in bacon and stuff it with crab." Absolutely not what I wanted to hear after eating most of my dinner. The complaining by this staff member continued after I returned & just made us eager to leave. It's unfortunate that this happened because the food was pretty enjoyable.

I consider all the shops along this little stretch to be part of the Rochester Public Market. I'm…read morenot sure if that's accurate, but they are part of my experience with the market, and I love them all. Giordano is one of the best of the bunch, as they have all the cheese you'd ever want...and I want a lot of cheese. I want the funky bleu, the creamy brie, the sharpest cheddar you can find, the chevre, whatever you can find from a sheep, certainly including manchego, and all the olives they have in stock too. I want the cheeses with fun additions like truffles and pepper and meat and I also want the meat that hasn't been added to the cheese, because meat is good on its own too. All that said, the last time I came in I felt like I was bothering the staff there. I got curt, annoyed answers when I was curious about a cheese I wasn't familiar with, and we ended up leaving with about 25% of the amount of cheese I wanted to buy just because it's not fun to put together a cheese plate with people who aren't trying to help you. I hope it was an off day, because I'll be back again soon. After all, I have a cheese problem.

We used to frequent this place at the Rochester Public market when we lived here years ago so when…read moreon a recent visit we stopped in. Though it was almost empty on a Thursday morning it was difficult to get to the cheese display because the only two patrons were pretty much sitting in the aisle gabbing with one of the workers. We had to squeeze around them since they weren't moving. Once at the cheese counter the smallish selection of cheeses were unmarked so we needed to quiz the burly guy manning the counter. He was gruff and almost rude in his attitude. Almost unhelpful. It is lucky we bought anything at all. If you wanted your purchase wrapped in cheese paper vs. plastic they charged another $1.75. Really? Definitely not the positive experiences we remembered from the past. Very Disappointing!
