Marketfair Mall in Princeton feels like a small miracle of survival in the digital age, a place that is neither packed to the rafters nor echoingly abandoned like so many malls that have gone gently into that good night. It is comfortably alive, which is more than can be said for much of modern retail. The Barnes and Noble alone is reason enough to show up. It is a proper bookstore where you can wander, browse, and briefly pretend the internet isn't actively murdering print media. I also enjoy the little AMC theater, which is perfectly fine as long as you are seeing a movie that does not demand the thunder and spectacle of IMAX. Sometimes a modest screen, a bag of popcorn and a plush recliner are more than enough. The place is rarely crowded, which makes errands feel less like combat and more like a calm agreement between shoppers and time itself. That said, I am hoping something interesting eventually replaces the recently shuttered Bahama Breeze. The space feels like it wants to be fed a new idea. Time will tell whether that happens. Four stars for being pleasant, functional, and quietly resisting extinction. In this era, that feels like an accomplishment. read more

Admittingly, Marketfair Mall isn't one I visit as often, even though it's a nice respite to get away, walk around, and such forth. I actually used to come here often as I used to come for piano lessons in the complex behind the mall. Way back when, they used to have the food court, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We'd often come here and get pizza from Pizza Bene (they used to have the thick crust slices!) and then head to class or somewhere else. Nowadays, the Barnes and Noble is still a flagship as well as AMC. A few handful of interesting stores (GAP, Banana Republic, Athleta, Lenscrafters), but nothing too crazy. I've come to Lenscrafters in the past to pick up glasses and sometimes come to Barnes & Noble to look for books. It's just quite a small mall, so don't expect too much. They are doing some construction, so we shall see what happens. There is Bahama Breeze & Seasons 52. I'm not sure how they are as I've never been. Tommy Tavern & Tap is accessible via Barnes & Noble. That place will start getting packed during football season. I must admit, I do miss the food court. read more

If you are looking for a mall not populated with roving bands of gang members and slowly dying retail brands (Do GAP and Banana Republic count at this point) than the Princeton MarketFair Mall is for you. No food court means no kids and a surplus of high-end home design stores featuring $10,000 end tables and $300 spatulas means almost no adults as well. There are however a few restaurants of various quality attached to the Mall (Bahama Breeze, Tommy's, TGIF) but certainly none to draw a mob of any significance. For the life of me I don't know how this retail playpen stays in business but it's never crowded and is always the place where the locals can walk forever and avoid every outstanding subpoena. To be fair, the Barnes and Noble and Eastern Mountain Sports are excellent as are some of the better clothing stores within. And I'm sure the attached AMC theater delivers foot traffic as well. But still, no waiting. I guarantee it. read more

Incredibly clean and spacious mall. It's not too big or overwhelming, the size is just right. With a variety of great restaurants (no food court) including Seasons 52, Tommy's, Bahama Breeze and other better quality fast food restaurants like The Corner Bakery, Qdoba, and Starbucks. They have a great variety of stores that are bright clean and spacious. Great finds like the Barnes & Noble, Wax the City, Anthropology, AMC, West Elm, & Pottery Barn to name a few. There are many bathrooms throughout the mall that are always clean and stocked. It's such a nice mall for families with small children and just about anyone because it offers so much and it's NEVER overcrowded. It's also a nice place to meet up for lunch with friends or after work with colleagues. I never feel anxious or stressed out at this mall- I highly recommend visiting. read more

If you are allergic to dogs or are concerned about dogs defecating where you shop, stay away from this mall. The mall posts no pets allowed other than service animals, but they let people bring their dogs into the mall, working dog or not. I've seen dogs poop no fewer than a half dozen times over the last year, and it really is stomach churning when they are in eateries and in the kitchen store. It's too bad, because the place is an otherwise nice place to visit. read more

For some reason, I like this mall! It's quite small but never seems to be too busy, so it's fun to walk around in. I have to admit that I'm never too tempted by any of the stores, but I've definitely hit up the QDOBA and the movie theater is great (although make sure you but your tickets ahead of time since the small number of seats do tend to get snatched up faster than expected!). The Barnes and Noble is also nice. I would check this place out if you're into mall walking and you're interested in hitting up somewhere that's not too crazy busy! read more

Ok, I know I said I would probably not give any mall 4 stars. But this one is different. I've been coming here for years, usually to eat or to holiday shop. My recent visit had me to reconsidering my original statement. First of all this is a smaller mall that may discourage those who want to shop hundreds of stores. To me that is a plus, always less people, even during peak holidays. Second, two of my all time favorite stores are here, both are big and have great selections of things that I like. Third, the remaining stores are kind of cool too, and I browse them on occasion as well. Fourth is the food options. There are 2 very nice slightly upscale choices, and at least 3 more casual ones. I'm giving two stars because this mall is underwhelming. I'll admit that we're spoiled in my area because our malls are really nice in northern NJ but there just wasn't enough options here. They have a few good selections but the store themselves are really small and there's not a lot going on. It's a one floor mall too. A really nice group of stores, located on route 1, Malls make me think of crazy hubbub and long lines - this mall is nothing of the sort. The store is quite larger than the one in Eatontown, NJ. The staff is quite nice but the one guy who knows his bikes doesn't look you in the eyes as he's answering questions about the bike. Princeton Marketfair is a mini mall that is beloved by locals in he Princeton area. It offers select stores that tend to match the background of the clientele that frequent this place. Pottery Barn, Barns and Nobles and Starbucks just to name a few. The beauty of coming here is it's never overly crowded. Even in the thick of the holiday shopping season, you never feel like you're being crammed between people. The best way to describe the vibe here is, laid back and small towny. There are also a few select restaurants that offer a little something for everyone. TGI Fridays for the kids, Seasons 52 for adults, and Bahama Breeze for both. Whatever the case, Marketfair Mall provides a small taste of everything. With the chaos of the nearby Quakerbridge mall, it's nice to have a place that's low key, clean and convenient. read more

I wouldn't really call this a mall but maybe a few stores in a remotely close location, lol. If you're looking for a "mall" this isn't really the place for you. There is only about 20 stores if that located in this "mall". If you're not from the area I would not recommend that you come to this mall as things are very limited and this place is in no way a mall like atmosphere to say the least. Despite that, this place is always very clean and there are a few restaurants that one would be able to dine at but that's about it. read more

This mall is beginning to grow on me. It is now the location of the closest Barnes and Noble so I come here often. Francesca's is also a favorite. The mall is beautifully decorated for the holidays. Malls are NOT my forte, but we did venture around the mall a bit before stopping into the AMC to catch The Foreigner, even purchased a new DnD book from the Barnes and Nobles. Because this isn't food i'm not going to do a full critique or breakdown of things with separate scores, just a gut feeling 4 stars and some comments. Marketfair puts the Mall in Small, the entirety of one end to another can be walked in under 10 minutes at a leisurely pace, which i personally kinda like. The layout of the mall is fairly straightforward and intuitive, the background hallways leading to the offices and bathrooms are all connected and allow you to cut through to destinations if necessary which i think is fantastic. The mall is very well maintained, extremely clean, and has one of the nicest resting areas i've seen inside a small mall of its kind, i can't confirm for sure if the plants displayed are real...but it sure looks like it. Store selection is definitely a bit on the higher end of the spectrum, but some decent places to browse through, and a LOT of food options. This is the kind of mall that has a display model for an Alfa Romeo inside, a confusing one at that though, marketing materials for their Giulia Sedan, but an Stelvio SUV on display- either way this was a happy reminder that HEY it's still around! I like the mall itself, spacious and not as crowded so it's family friendly. Bonus for the bookstore inside the mall which adds more activities for the kids. 2 things I wish the mall would improve on though: cleanliness and restaurants. You will notice that floor is very dirty and the chairs are dirty too, if your kid is sitting on the floor you will notice immediately the amount of dust and debris the child has picked up from the floor. It needs some serious mopping and sweeping. Although there are restaurants in the mall but none is good, the only decent one is Season 52 but that one is a bit fancy for causal dining, especially if you have kids and want a kid-friendly setting. I wish the management would improve on the cleanliness of the mall, and consider adding some kids-friendly and decent food eateries. read more

This mall is okay. I've been here a few times, since my opthalmologist is right across the street, so it could be convenient to do some shopping, right? Eh, not exactly. Stores are kind of overpriced. Limited selection. Seems to be aimed more at women than men. Not trying to sound sexist, just honest. If you are a guy, the only stores for you would be Banana Republic, Gap, or Eastern Mountain Sports. That's about it. It's also kind of more furniture than clothing, as they have lots of furniture stores. The mall is the cleanest I've ever seen. First mall, i'd consider spotless. This is a great mall. They have all of the stores I like. The Corner Cafe has delicious treats for lunch. It's always clean and never too busy. A lot less chaotic than Quakerbridge. They also have very nice events for the family. I used to bring my kids every year to see Santa here. They have the Easter bunny as well. They even have a nice movie theater. It's not very large, but I like that. Very comfy chairs in the middle of the store. And Yogurino is delish as a snack. read more

I think this is a mall that has huge potential, but hasn't really found the right direction for the future yet. I think they really need to set the target for certain population. Also, I think they need some superstar brand that will surely attract people (for example, apple store, Abercrombie/Hollister, etc). A lot of things are overlapped with Quakerbridge mall, the existing luxury line brands (William and Sonoma, Anthropologie, etc) just can't attract the customers by themselves. They have decent dining options around, and also have B&N and a newly renovated movie theatre (3-4 years ago). I come here for Barnes&Nobles to study, Starbucks for coffee and Qdoba for a good fast meal. Marketfair is housewife central for the most part. The stores are definitely aimed at women and their needs for furniture, kitchenware, fashion and children's clothing. I would have given more stars but the candy stand (I love my sweets) there is extremely over priced. I went there and the Middle-Eastern lady, whom by her conversation with the cashier was the owner. She seemed so rude and cold, I felt terrible for the cashier. And it made sense to me that this woman would overprice everything. It's such a bad look treating your employees like that in public. Anthropologie: good layout, a lot of selection (including home goods) Gap: small store, not much in the way of selection Brookstone: typical size and layout. Enjoyed my free chair massage. Barnes and Noble: By far the largest store in the mall. Very typical of all other B&N locations. Sunglass Hut: again, on par with other locations. There were quite a few empty storefronts which leads me to believe that this place is suffering a bit. The mall wasn't very busy and as I mentioned...it doesn't offer a lot of traditional mall staples (e.g., no shoe stores...no department stores). The movie theatre was nice. Saw The Green Hornet in 3D. It wasn't over-the-top fancy, but it did the trick. Plenty of space and comfy reclining seats. read more

This is one of the best malls I have ever been to! It is extremely clean and never too crowded. The corridors are nice and wide. The bathrooms are also very well maintained. I feel like its a relaxing experience to shop here --reminds me of the short hills mall, but less overwhelming. I am a fan of the B&N, Starbucks, Anthropologie, and Williams-Sonoma. The bf equally enjoys those stores (well, I may have dragged him into WS to see some interesting kitchen gadgets!) as well as LensCrafters. He was able to have his annual eye exam and purchase a new pair of frames in one visit -how convenient! I am very excited that Francesca's (women's boutique) just opened, as it is one of my favorite stores! I like how Market Fair is constantly improving --two additional new shops are set to open later this year (an accessory store and a caribbean style (?) restaurant) --looks interesting! Hopefully a nice mojito is in my future! My favorite part? No food court! Ugh, nothing turns me off more than a dank, greasy, disorderly court of "food". All in all, it is a nice place to take a stroll on a Saturday afternoon! What a nice addition to the Route 1 section of "Princeton" (read: 0854"0")! read more

Used to work right by MF and eat lunch at Teriyaki Boys all the time.....well now they got rid of the food court and that sucks. It's a lot of nicer shops and you won't find a bunch of kids hanging around the place. There is a movie theater that's not huge or that busy. Being in a nice area everything sold in MF is pretty quality product. I do miss that Teriyaki Boys though. I could pretty much get everything I could get at MF much closer to my house so do not have a need for the place. My girlfriend still works in the area and she miss' the food court more than I do. read more

I love this mall! It's small, has nice stores that i shop at, and is pleasant to walk around at any time of day. I am a big fan of all the stores they have to offer here - Barnes and Nobles, Gap, Banana Republic, Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, William & Sonoma.. and many more. They have a good variety, and also great restaurants to eat at. It is conveniently located off of Route 1 and near the Quakerbridge Mall which is a little bigger. This is the type of variety I was hoping that I'd have at the mall closer to where I live, but alas, the town I live in doesn't quite understand what stores draw in people and gave us stores I'd never shop at. I really like this mall since it has some larger and more popular stores than what Quakerbridge Mall has. But it is pretty small. I love that they have a Pottery Barn and PBKids. There's a brand-new Barnes & Noble and Corner Bakery, with new restaurants being built on the other end. Most malls seem to be targeted at 19 year old girls but this one has a lot of stores that I like....Pottery Barn, Platypus, Barnes and Noble, Brookstone. Used to have a huge food court but most of the food places there were terrible. I miss Teriyaki Boy but Corner Bakery is not bad. Parking is hard to come by. read more
