Absolutely, without question, the worst, most fatty, gristley, not at all fresh tasting (or smelling) pork it has ever been my misfortune to cook. I wouldn't even call it "ground meat". There is so much fat, it's more like meat paste with larger chunks of fat and gristle in. Made me sick as a dog to smell it cook. And, speaking of dogs, I wouldn't feed it to a street dog. Their beef may be amazing. But, they should be ashamed to ask people to pay for the pork or to serve it to them. Disgusting. I got a can of pork once that was higher quality. read more

This was a neat experience and with great food! Staff was super friendly and took the time to explain/give suggestions. I had the pork patty melt which was delicious and my husband ordered the special of the day which was a corn beef Reuben and he said it was the best Reuben he had ever eaten. There was also a cool outdoor play area next to the barn for children. read more

Been to this establishment twice and never fails to come through with a great lunch! The Bourbon smoked pimento cheese Oh my ! Smokey goodness on a bun. Home grown mescaline lettuce and tomato topper. To the side of the building the aromas of pulled pork on the grill! I really had a problem deciding what I wanted to eat. The ambience is quiet country surrounding great to de stress from the city'.After I ate I picked up some local grown produce and strawberries to take home. If you like Farmer's Markets then this place is worth a drive out from Lexington. We were greeted by the friendly staff who explained that their wide array of meat are grass and grain fed...no hormones. Besides meat they have milk, cheese, eggs, jams, lotions, soaps, etc. Kentucky Proud. read more

A little tucked away market on your way to Danville, Marksbury is delightful! I was recently home and took my mother in law here on our way back to Lexington, she loved it too! I started off with their kale salad (homemade lemon dressing-YUM!) and it had strawberries, mandarins & sunflower seeds on it. I ordered the brisket sandwich and it was delicious! Marksbury is a whole animal butcher shop and restaurant, offering staple grocery items (including dairy and produce) as well as many meat complementary goods. All their meat is raised locally and naturally in Central Kentucky by our partner farmers, processed at their facility, and carefully butchered and prepared right at Pasture. They carry seasonal produce, eggs, dairy and a handful of meat-minded pantry options. Almost everything they sell is grown or produced right here in the Bluegrass state. They also have a deli counter full of prepared food options for those hectic weeks when you just don't have the time or energy to cook at home. read more

Between Danville an Lexington. Awesome little shop that also serves lunch. We didn't have lunch, but the local meat selection and Kentucky proud selection of dry goods is off the hook. Some of these meats end up in Lexington at Good Foods and Whole Foods, some of the cuts I don't think come our way. Worth the stop. read more

This place is fantastic. Best pulled-pork sandwich I've ever had -- though, admittedly, I haven't had too many. Still, downright delicious. Bought some mixed greens and milk from the farm and sat out on the front porch and enjoyed the fall air. Perfect. Servers are friendly and helpful. Setting is wonderful. If I lived nearby, I'd do some serious grocery shopping at the market, too; but I was just stopping through on my way to Louisville. I felt lucky to find such a unique lunch spot. read more

Purchased bacon, eggs, chicken(whole fryer) rib eye steak. I have pictures of the steak if you are interested, but, I requested a 15-16 oz boneless rib eye. I am not sure what I got, but it was not a traditional rib eye, more like a NY strip, except not as good, and was a end cut at that, lots of fat on the blade. Bacon 8 bucks a pound, a whole fryer will cost you 10 bucks plus, the steak was 16 dollars, and cooked med rare, tasted more like NY strip, which to me looking for rib eye was not that great. Bacon has a pretty good flavor, lots of salt, cooks away to mostly nothing as most bacons do. I'd say stick to Kroger/Walmart/Sams beef you will get much more for the buck and a more reliably taste too. I was wondering why I was not able to find any price list online, Now I know. read more

My word, Marksbury is the real deal. Marksbury Farm provides meat for many of Kentucky's finest restaurants, and the quality is evident in the sandwiches at the Farm Market. Our group ordered the Pulled Pork, Reuben, and Hot Ham and Cheese sandwiches and were immediately stunned into deliciously satisfied silence with the first bite. The pulled pork was phenomenal, with just the right amount of smoke and unctuous porkiness. Hot ham and cheese was even better--country ham meets sharp cheddar. The reuben was my favorite, however, better than any reuben I've ever had in a NY deli. The flavors of the pastrami shone brilliantly, juicy and savory without needing to be overshadowed by sauce. All the sandwiches we had were served on a brioche bun from Bluegrass Baking Company; I don't normally like brioche buns and the sweetness they bring, but the only buns I would have liked better with our sandwiches might have been potato. The sides were just fine, delicious but not superlatively so. The market area is very clean and well kept, and service is quick and friendly. Best part about Marksbury Farm Market are the prices--sandwiches are $5-$7, and could easily command at least twice at much when served at other restaurants. Well worth the drive, well worth the 5 stars. I will definitely take my out of town guests here. read more
