Many locals were shopping here, some dining & tourists explored. Each small shop was more lovely than the last.

Spring through autumn you'll find an orgy of locally-grown seasonal fruits and vegetables; in the winter not much grows in Germany besides cabbage and squash, but the selection is still pretty good (supplemented by items grown slightly farther away). Additional vendors sell fish, meats, cheeses, breads, and (quite reasonably-priced) organic wine.

I lived in an apartment in the old town for 10 days and pretty much did all my food shopping here…read more Every morning I was up early and enjoyed all the fresh brotchen and bread products at the bakery. In the afternoon I'd stock up on fresh pasta, meats and veggies for dinner. I used the restaurant inside for free internet access while I sipped on a beer before returning home. I even bought most all my groceries in the small market inside. My new love is d'arbo honig cremig. I hate to say it but I even went online and had 20 jars shipped to the US at over $10 each...ouch...but I'm addicted to the stuff! Markthalle is a truly wonderful place!

Such a wonderful way to experience local Salzburg and try fresh produce! You can buy flowers,…read morefruits, vegetable, bread, meat, cheese, pastries, & Austrian dumplings. The dumplings I tried are called Kaspressknödel and are a must try- it's a mix of vegetables and cheese into this lovely patty. You can eat it by itself or put it in soup. They are only open Thursday's so if you're visiting be sure it's on that day :)

We opted to start with pasta at Schachner & Pasta. The pasta was fresh and was very good. I walked though the other counters and shops, perusing the wares. Next, feeling a bit jet lagged and having eaten too much pasta, next stop was Marktcafe for a cappuccino. My capp was spot on. Finally, we attended the event in the event space upstairs which was unique and a great party. The event last beyond midnight. (Note, there is Uber on the outskirts of Salzburg at midnight!) A cool spot with a little bit of everything.

So many people out browsing and buying and loads of families and sellers with their wares out in the courtyards and street selling. The only downside was that there was too much clothes and less of other things. The prices were also very reasonable at most of the places. I love this area of town as it has some great cafes and bars and with the added attraction of the flea market this place really comes alive. I will definitely be back again at this one. We bought some things really cheap and there was so much we left behind as we did not have room in our apartment to put it :-( Besides Schwabing this would be one of the better and bigger ones to go to. Fabulous :-)
