Talk about maximizing the industry standard, sales per square foot that commercial realtors love to talk about but I digress. For just a few bucks a day, you can even rent fairly new releases. And with so many convenient locations since I've actually been to them, plus the fact that I use it, it's easy to find a place to drop off too. Safeway, Superstore, 7 Eleven, and Mac's. Easy to register, all by email. And it's amazing how quick it is: once you've picked up your DVD, by the time you walk back to your car, you receive their confirmation email. That's what happens when you know how the system works ;) the only bugger is when someone's taking too long to scroll through the list but they do sort by categories.

I miss that personal human touch, that interaction and geek talk about movies. The Redbox doesn't talk to you but it's a fine medium between the traditional stores and downloading. Here is the problem. Redbox recently become another one of those victims and as of last year, Redbox kiosks in Canada are no longer renting out movies. This is a shame 'cause even though the selection was limited by my interest and standards, they had the latest titles in a timely fashion. In fact it was the RedBox that caught me up with all my Oscar movies before the big ceremony. Even though I cannot rent in Canada anymore. I am still giving it 4 stars as it was an awesome alternative.

It's good! And the staff are friendly! Toronto has two great video shops (you can also visit Eyesore for a similar experience) and I am had we've got these two hanging in in the 21st century. You can find a variety of deep cuts and the newest from Criterion, Shout!, or Arrow. You can find films at a variety of price points. The good stuff will be a bit pricy but, seriously. Treat yo'self. They also rent films too and offer free ones too. And they have a membership card to save you down the road.

It's really nice that if you are looking for something they don't have, you can create an account on their site and save your search so that you will be informed if it comes in to any store. It's also nice that they will transfer your items to any store you wish for free for pickup. It's unfortunate though, that quality control is pretty poor across the chain. I've ordered CDs and received discs that are scuffed or otherwise less than mint. Yes, their business is in used merchandise and used merchandise is often not perfect, but there is no disclosure of condition at all. They seemingly cater to collector types, so I think that is an omission that should be addressed.

One of two dvd rental establishments I am aware of in Toronto, I applaud its mission to bring choice to cineastes and to sell physical media to collectors. That's where my admiration ends. This business is run more like a hobby than a serious enterprise. First of all the hours are not posted to my knowledge. There IS an open/closed sign to be fair, but you'll be hard pressed to know when OPEN will be displayed. If you're someone who likes surprise and allowing your shopping efforts to be shaped by serendipity then this is the shop for you. I've attended a few of the Video Store Day sales where hours were posted in advance on social media and was left waiting for the owner to arrive past the indicated opening time. Not much mind you, say 15-20 minutes, but if you're promoting a major sales event, wouldn't it make sense to show up when advertised? Rental selection is pretty good. Lots of obscure gems but the discs I've rented in the past looked like they had been skated on. I rented once and that was it. The store makes an attempt to look cultish and cool, but ends up having that last day of a garage sale vibe. Used discs are strewn in boxes on the floor and in no special order on the shelves. New product is appealing but the owner has taken to not putting prices on the discs. In the past I've paid more than I would have at a competitor's or if I had bought the disc from the production company directly. Again, if you like serendipity its a great experience. What you are paying is always a surprise. On the upside they have a great t-shirt selection if you want to show your allegiance to cult and classic film. Nice designs on quality shirts. You can also find some obscure zines and books that are locally produced and worth the effort of coming by. For new releases or rentals I prefer to shop at their competitor on Bay. This shop could be so much more with a serious attitude to retail.

Let's start, you walk in and there is a bit of a musty smell. It's not a very big place. I was amazed that they sell vinyls. Must come back to check those out. The girls took my two boxes along with my name and number. Had to wait about an hour. At the end they took a total of one box and I got some mulla!! Sweettt!!!!! I was…read morepleasantly surprised to see that it was a couple of dollars cheaper than what the renewal fee would have been if I had used a credit card and paid directly to Microsoft. They have a great selection of new and used games and any time I've been in here they're always busy. The staff are quick at getting though the line and helping every customer.
