I don't come out Marrickville way much - the inner westies can smell the ocean on my skin, it makes them uncomfortable - but when I do I always discover something worthy of my attention, like the grand old town hall, sitting like a giant art deco bullfrog atop a convergences of corners.
Actually that sold it really poorly, it's nothing like a bullfrog, I'm not even sure it's art deco, but it's big and it's imposing in the way those old buildings tend to be, and there's a sweet statue of an angel with a really nice figure draped in a bum-hugging sheet on a tall plinth that I like the look of, and a courtyard out the front, and inside it's wood floorboards and curling staircases.
