Want to take advantage of the quietest place in Warringah Mall? The Mall library has opportunities for all these things. The library is well-lit, with natural rays coming in through the huge windows. The chairs are comfortable, the internet free and the noise minimal. The stock of books etc is large, and with the power to request books from any of the Warringah Library branches, your mind should never be book-hungry again.

I am so looking forward to attending an art workshop that goes for three hours next month, as at the time of writing this. You only pay $5 and this covers all materials. Held every Wednesday (with the exception of school and public holidays) and all materials are included. Held at this library, and class is run by the Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre. Cool lobby decor, especially the glass floors of Sydney Harbor. Some history and art are also in the lobby. Plenty of comfortable seating throughout. Cool garden, exhibit, etc. A cafe on the 5th floor, but I think it was closed today. Not sure what time we arrived. I'm told they used to have a bar here. Service - Self service. Price - Free. As I am writing this here in the library itself, I have to say I'm feeling fairly comfortable…read more Sitting in a giant black chair in front of the wall mounted plasma TV and wii open for public use free of charge, I'm enjoying the pleasant ambience here in the library. A huge space, one floor off the ground, filled will isles of books (and subsequently endless hours of entertainment). I hadn't discovered this place until now, but I'm glad I have. The library is such a great reprieve from the world; quiet and not disturbed so that you may read / learn / study in peace. I've been to a few librarys in my time, not huge amounts, but so far they've all surprised me by how comfortable and accommodating they are, this one being no exception. The guy at the counter was able to give me advice on finding a book, and helped to make it a friendly place to be. And there are teen activites on specific days - the place is a hub of creativity.

It's conveniently located as I work just around the corner at R&W Newtown Real Estate, so I often pop in to check out an investment or architecture book. There's a fair bit of fiction, a relatively small amount on investment and business (compared to some larger libraries such as Chatswood, Hurstville, etc), a surprisingly large amount on architecture and DIY homecare, and unsurprisingly (for Newtown) a lot of spirituality, philosophy, arts etc. There is also a seperate large looking 'Women's Library' which I haven't ventured into yet but which has different community events regularly.

Unlike most…read morelibraries that have an outdated collection of books and a small, usually conservative range of topics to choose from, Newtown has a good sized collection of books on a wider range of contemporary issues and topics than most public libraries. I like going there to browse the books on music, spirituality and graphic novels as well as to hire DVDs. You can also hire a computer to use the net here too, which is handy and means you can save on all those dollars spent at the internet cafe.

There are a few communal desks in the reference section which are meant to be for studying, slightly shielded from library noise by a big glass window. There are also some tables near the young adult fiction section. Neither area is particularly quiet, especially with the self service borrowing machine beeping loudly. The best part is that you can park and sit at a desk within a few minutes. It is very accessible for people on the run. The worst aspect is that there is only one female toilet. There is a return chute available 24/7 and inter-library borrowing/returns from any library within the Sutherland Shire. Please note that the library is closed Sundays, and only open in the morning on Saturdays.

There is a great number of large print books and audiobooks. I love that new modern libraries have got on the technological band wagon and have ebooks and eAudiobooks and even emagazines. The staff are ready to help and train the non technologically minded. There are numerous leaflets on the resources available for the library. This library really extends itself within the community. Lane Cove Library delivers books, DVDs, audiobooks etc to people who are disabled, or frail and live in the area. There is not a problem in organising this service. The library is located in the middle of the village of Lane Cove. A short arcade of shops is alongside the library. So have a bite to eat before a relaxing time in the library. There is very easy access to people who have mobility issues. And....the library is quiet!
