The pub has a bar area and a restaurant area - we only ever went into the bar as you could eat int here and it was really cosy (dogs are also allowed!). The staff were incredibly friendly and chatty (lets face it, Yorkshire, particularly North Yorkshire folk are possibly the most friendly on the planet - i challenge you to disprove this!). The food was INCREDIBLE. Nothing fancy pants, just really good food, VERY big portions (trust me on this, you dont need three courses - choose your weapon of starter or dessert to go alongside your main - we made the mistake one night and 1) couldnt eat it all and 2)pretty much rolled home). We spent an evening in the pub, had a meal and then sat playing card games - we felt incredibly welcome. So welcome that we ended up visiting three times in a week long holiday. It had but a little to the better in that the room we occupied had been 'upgraded' with a jacuzzi bath. As was usual in this great inn were the toiletries, bathrobes, tea/coffee making facilities.....I could go on for ever as there is so much in the rooms. Alistair and Karen are perfect hosts and will do anything to make your stay perfect. I have carried on, somewhat, about the room but one thing that mustn't be missed is the food. Alistair is rarely away from the kitchen. The food that comes out is beyond description. All locally sourced. In the evening we started with a seafood platter for my partner and an awe inspiring lobster bisque for myself. My mouth still waters thinking about it. Main course, for both of us, was a dressed crab. A perfect meal. Breakfast in the morning was a full English for myself. The black pudding has to be tried. My partner had scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. Those plates filled us up for the day and the drive to Edinburgh. Then to top it off, the ales, ciders, and Scotch whiskeys that are on hand. The friendliness of the owners will have you coming back again and again. Love this place!
