I attended Marshall University from 1989-1994. It has changed a lot since I graduated, but what hasn't changed is my love for MU. I studied public relations in the school of journalism. My bachelors degree, persistence, and God's blessings have taken me further than I could have ever imagined! There were a few things that attracted me to Marshall. I liked that I could walk from one end of campus to the other in roughly ten minutes. And my parents lived less than an hours drive from Huntington. And lastly, they offered a tuition discount because my hometown in Kentucky was nearby. I was employed at the book store through the work study program. I could stop in for an hour, go to class and come back and work for a few hours. I loved the flexibility! The two pain points were registering for classes which meant standing in line in the basement and praying the classes I wanted were still open when I got to the front of the line. The other headache was completing the financial aid form and waiting to speak to a counselor. Now, neither is an issue because students can register for classes and fill out the FASFA form online. I've stayed connected to Marshall through volunteering on local alumni boards first in Baltimore, MD and now in Jacksonville, FL. Marshall has and is growing tremendously both the campus and the student body. I still enjoy attending football and basketball games when I'm in town visiting my family. I wouldn't change my college experience for anything! The education and life-long friendships are priceless;))) read more

I really enjoyed coming to Visit Marshall University with my mom and dad for Green and White Day. The students and staff were so nice and greeted my family and i with a smile and asked how we were doing . Then when my family and I took a tour of the campus we had lunch at one of the dining halls which was awesome. After my family and I met Mrs. Bianca who is the Autism Training center coordinator We we're really excited to have the opportunity for me(Brady McPherson) to have the opportunity possibly be a part of the Autism program that Marshall University had to offer. I am also excited because I recently got into Marshall University and am really looking forward to having the opportunity to Study Special Education for 4 years I will be an Incoming Freshman Next year for the Fall 2024-2025 year . *Yelp HQ, this is a review on my experience at Marshall. Try reading before deleting. I have a different style of writing then you people.* 3/3/21 Reedited Version "We Are Marshall." Well before the movie came out, I was a student here and the picture of the 1970's Football Team was one of the many photos I saw.  I did see the movie and liked it, but by then I had left the university.   I had liked Montgomery College in Rockville and moved back to Maryland...(I written about my experience at that college in a review) In 1996 Fall Semester I set foot on the property  Marshall University.   The feeling of being left by myself hit me again. The first time was when I was dropped off at my boarding school called The Gow School.  I watched my parents drive off knowing I would be alone for a year.  I had been left alone a other summer camps, but this was different.  It wasn't a week or two away from home. I then flash back to the here and now. My mind says "your're an adult now. There will be things your going to have to do own your own." I remembered hearing my teachers say in high school, "Once your're in college, if you don't do the homework, most of the professors won't care. You will be graded on not doing your assignments. Same thing applies to whether or not you show up to class." In short, nobody's going to stand there and hold your hand. This is so true. The thoughts of getting last minute paperwork came to mind and I knew I had my affairs in order. Even though I had my affairs in order, I still had to wait in long lines. I had taken a tour with my parents earlier on, but now I had to get the paperwork done and I need to do it myself. During the waiting period I came a cross a young lady who I ended up befriending. I liked  calling her by her last name and made sure she was okay with this first. Newlon and I saw a lot of each other as the year went on. It was later on in the year that Newlon and I a falling out that we both don't understand. We patched things up now, but at the time we couldn't stand each other. During a football game in the Joan C. Edwards Stadium one October day, I went to a game with a former student of The Gow School (class of 95) named Mr. Greg Forrest. Our seating area was pretty good. The game was okay, but The Herd lost. I wasn't into football as I am now, but I appreciated the game all the same. Midway through the game, I happened to look down and saw Ms. Newlon looking up at me.  The expression on our faces  were amazing. 38,016 human bodies in this stadium and she happens to be right in front of me one row down.  God did have a sense of humor. We were not happy to see each other during that time period.  Now we think it's down right funny. Again we still don't know what caused us to dislike each other. We had a love hate relationship but never dated each other. Guess we just liked getting on each others nerves.  My studies in education were slowly declining.  It was clear I wasn't suited for this college, but I did pass some college courses.  I can't remember all the classes I took, but I know I kept changing my majors. I wasn't sure what field I wanted to major in. Upon Winter break,  I found out that my grades weren't high enough to continue stay at Marshall. I felt very embarrassed  and  disappointed in myself. My dad introduced me to Montgomery College in Rockville Maryland. I did better at this college, but I found more enjoyment working then going to college.  Nevertheless, after improving my GPA to a 3.0,  I headed back to Marshall University. During the time I was away from the school. Newlon and I got back in contact.  I believe I contacted her, because she had no way to find me. I was very surprised to learn she had missed me while I was gone.  The feeling was mutual between both of us and from that point on, were friends again. We came close to being couple, but we never made that move...okay that is not true. It almost happened, but tragedy struck her family and she went to a dark place for a long time. We lost touch for a long time. Before this tragedy happened, I took classes in the summertime to get my grades up. I succeeded in this goal. I ended up staying in Twin Towers East and two others during my regular semesters. I don't remember their names and the photos I have seen online look different from what I remember.   I think the Student Center was abolished and rebuilt into dormitories too. There was talk about such a thing happening when I was there. The students center had a nice cafe there l; as well as a place to play pool. Like any university it's got its flaws, in the end I'm glad that I got my degree here.

Stopped through Marshall university on my way to Kentucky. The university looked nice. It is a typical college town. There were antiquate amount of restaurants in the area. I ended up eating at the bob Evans. Literally the only thing in this town is the university. One would think the university employees the town and the students work at all of the businesses. read more

The school has a great location and a beautiful campus but it is an old school and the way they keep it up is nice

I went there for four and a half years for a degree in Natural Resources and Recreation Managment. Had a good time learning and hanging with friends, but they did not provide me with any outlets to get a job. Been looking for 2 years. Throughout my life I have been quite a few places but nowhere out of this country yet. My first two years of college I was admitted and accepted a football scholarship for four years. Being a part of the football team made me change as a person because I started to see lots of things I have never seen before. I wanted to use my football experience as an example of coach travel/air travel. The reason I say this is because as a coach you choose how your team of athletes travel whether is through air or bus. Playing division 1 football gave me the experience that I have never even thought of because we did a lot of traveling and meeting different people. Our main objective when on the road is to win a road game but there are some specific things that interest me throughout my experience. A lot of coaches air travel with their teams or organization because of the convenience that air travel has. It takes away so much time from a road trip or taking a train. I wanted to say that my experience would be similar to a coach travel and airline because I have rode both ways to get to a few destinations but if you are an athlete then the majority of the time you are with your coaches. The majority of the time we traveled by air because it was much quicker and could get the team in place and settled down for the game on Saturdays. We flew to Pittsburg, PA for a football game where we played the University of Pittsburgh and it was one the best times of my life. Throughout my time in Pittsburgh I met and interacted with a few important people to me. I met and talked with Antonio Brown which he is an all-star wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers. This human being is not just any human being he is one of the fastest football players in the world, he can break records, and he can do it all. What I am getting to about him is that he is a huge role to lots and lots of people. His main job is to play football and to help himself become a better person overall but specifically he tries as a man to be the example he is because he is a highly praised person because what he has accomplished. The service that was provided with the trip was basically was all through football because we flew to Pittsburgh and then got on a bus from the airport to get to our hotel rooms. One thing that we also had was police escorts because due to timing we have to have the roads clear so that we could make it to the game on time. Pittsburgh is a really nice place where it gets cold a lot. For the short period of time I was there it impacted me in many ways. Coming from a town that has nothing but a couple convenient stores is nothing to me so seeing this new place really change my way of thought about where I live and it is all about traveling to see new things. The location that my team and I were at was in the city where the Pittsburgh Steelers played, the national hockey team Pittsburgh penguins, and the major league baseball team the pirates. That is three professional sports teams in one city so the population was pretty big and things moved a little faster than normal. Seeing all of the lights really impacted me because I never really saw the city and it made me think of it as that I could possibly live here one day and being able to go out to experience that life was a very unique time in my life. read more
