So Flock Boutique is this cute little shop in my 'hood that sells cool indie Canadian brands and…read morealso Canadian brands that have made it big(ger). They have clothes by Jennifer Glasgow and Miik. They have soaps and body care by Purple Urchin. They also have jewelery by local designers and weird knick knacks like hand puppets of Canadian prime ministers, lol. So funky and weird! This store is more neat, clean and upscale-ish, a la "Yorkville" (Toronto reference) and not like Adorit in the Byward Market (that also carries local and Canadian designs, and some of the same brands, like Miik) which is more, a la "Kensington Market" (sorry, another Toronto reference), but meaning more bohemian and smelling of patchouli. Prices are high, but your getting good quality and supporting the Canadian market.

I will definitely be going back to this trendy boutique soon. I have been looking for a wedding…read moredress (something trendy and artistic and untraditional!) and I found several options here. The great thing about Flock Boutique is that the clothes are made by Canadian designers, the majority of which are women! They try to bring in lots of fashions from Ottawa and Montreal also, to be local. The accessories here are amazing! They have lots of colourful pins and earrings and some great bags! I really had to control myself, or I would have had an empty wallet when I came out. I did see several dress options, but was tight on time, so I couldn't try anything on. One of the girls working in the store patiently showed me several dresses and answered all my questions about the designers and the store. The people who work here clearly know what they are talking about. It is also great that so many of the designs are by Canadian women! For someone who wants to dress artistically, this is the perfect spot to shop.

Unique Accessories is a little store with some interesting items. They sell mainly hats,…read morefascinators, and costume jewelry. Their hats are cool, but I wouldn't say all that unique. The styles and quality are similar to Parkhurst hats. The fascinators are pretty but honestly, I've purchased the exact same fascinators on eBay for a quarter of the price. However, at the store you get them right away, while on eBay you have to wait for shipping. I never need a last minute fascinator, so I'm cool with paying less and waiting for shipping. I'm not a huge fan of costume jewelry, but if you are, you might find some statement pieces here. They do have some quirky handbags, like one shaped like a teapot or a car. However, the prices are really high for what I feel is not that great quality. They have scarves, broaches, and other accessories too. The store is a bit on the small side but it's full of merchandise, so it does look a little crowded. A nice place to poke around. I've only ever made purchases here during their sales. I find the regular prices too high for the quality.

I really love this store - if fact, it really is the entire reason I ever go to Carlingwood. There…read moreare so few stores that have hats and fascinators in stock, this place is a real gem to have in Ottawa. I am very much a hat person and Must try things on before buying them - shape and size are a big part of it. While I am all over a good deal, I am also a big believer in "you get what you pay for" and if it's something you want to keep longterm, make it an investment. That said, I don't find the prices in this store unreasonable. My whole family is from the UK (I'm the Only Canadian) so hats come with the territory. Whenever we would cross the pond, picking up a good hat was always part of the trip, and let me tell you, they are Expensive! Unique Accessories offers fun hats and fascinators for a relatively decent price, and they are quite good quality - everything I have so far has stood up to the elements and become permanent pieces in my closet. The only other real hat store I have found is a tiny boutique in an office building in the market, where the Milliner makes everything from scratch and is therefor quite pricey (but again, you really get what you pay for - they are stunning) - I believe Mrs. Trudeau shops there too. As for the rest of the glitter and bling, it's quite fun and very colourful, but I must admit, I have only ever purchased headpieces. I will certainly be back, and I'm looking for an event to showcase my most recent acquisition!

Adorit is such a cute and fun little shop. It reminds me a bit of Courage My Love in Kensington…read moreMarket in Toronto. It has that hippie vibe and smells of patchouli. It has vintage items but also new items. Their new items are all ethically sourced/fair trade, most are made of organic materials and the designers are Canadian. The owner, Emma, is very sweet and is so passionate about the items she sells. She introduced me to 2 designers that I totally love now: Smoking Lily, and Rabbit & Empee. OMG, why did I not know about these designers earlier? Their pieces are gorgeous! Most of the clothes in the shop are somewhat quirky with a bohemian vibe to them, some with slight steampunk elements, but there are pieces that look more mainstream too. They also have unique jewelry pieces, hair accessories, belts and purses. Prices run the gamut from less than $1 (vintage jewelry) to over $150 (new clothing). New clothing starts at about $35 for T-shirts and goes up to $100+ for dresses. The shop is small and is in an old converted residential unit in the Byward Market. If you are looking for a cool and unusual piece, Adorit is the place to go! ;)

The vintage selection is small and it's the only part of the store that has men's clothing, but they do manage to have some very unique finds. The new clothing is "environmentally friendly" and it's often made out of recycled clothing material with some really great patterns. The clothing is usually made in Tibet (fair trade) or Canada, including some work by local designers. The clothes are usually quite nice and Bohemian-inspired, although the prices run a bit high sometimes. However, they often have a sales rack and trunk with some great pieces, including my favourite coat that probably gets more compliments than any other article of clothing I own. They also have wonderful accessories and Tibet products. The owner is very nice.

Within 10 minutes they identified the problem and provided me a solution that later worked. No fee requested. On April 14, I returned again without an appointment and explained further problems with my install. This time I suggested a consult fee to which they agreed. Looking up car specific fuse block information, they again identified the solution and requested I pull my car into the shop to show me the correct fuse block location for my application. Then as I watched using their supplies they did the final power supply install for the front camera. 15 minutes later all was working as the manufacturer intended. As a DIYer I like to learn by doing and in this case watching but if I did not, I wouldn't hesitate to contract them. I did not expect the additional installation using their shop supplies, so I doubled the consult fee which was still very reasonable. Thanks guys for treating a double walk-in so professionally. I was in the area so I dropped by to make an appointment for another time to investigate the issue. The man there said he'd take a quick look right away, spent 5 minutes looking into it and fixed it right there. I asked how much I owed him and he said "nothing." It was a simple reset needed after the car battery died a while ago. Much appreciated and great to see.
