The staff are all very friendly and eager to answer any questions you might have. I've been here several times over the years and each time I go I feel like I should have grabbed more of their unique art and amazing chili peppers.

It was luckily the right season, great timing, so we decided to stop in while nearby, and wow it…read morewas worth it. The magnificent truth is, Hatch New Mexico has the best chili peppers in the world. And I don't mean they have to be hot, although that can be a good thing, the taste is inexplicable, beyond expression, very unique and also extraordinary. The smell alone of fresh chili, and the aroma of fire roasting peppers, and the incredible volume of the cosecha is unparalleled. These folks make incredible salsas and powders with their chilis - hmmm good! As you gaze upon ristra after ristra of chili peppers dangling from the girders, and laying on the trays, or scattered among the displays and even in your hands - you can't be but astonished at the flavor and fragrance that abound around you. Everything roasted or sun-dried Hatch Chili is here. From whole chilis, powdered chili, edible, ornamental and utilitarian ristras - this place is simply fascinating. Just in case you're wondering, not all Hatch Peppers are hot, hot, hot! They come is Mild), Medium (Big Jim), Hot (Sandia), extra Hot (Barker), double extra Hot (Lumbre) and the triple extra Hot (Lumbre). Personally, I can't recommend Lumbre - yes, I've tried it. And just in case you're not prone to taking some peppers with you like we did for our freezer, chile food products, accessories, books and some miscellaneous merchandise to remember them by. Chile Fanatic is worth the stop when Hatch. Most recommended.

I looked at a BHG hummingbird earrings but I didn't want to spend over $200. I did buy the tiniest BHG earrings, an Indian design ring, a copper hoop earrings and a bundle of sage. The white buffalo jewelry looked nice but the pieces were larger than I'd like. 3+ hours more til we reach Tucson. Let's get on the road again.

Yes we got suckered into going here by the billboards. We all know the billboards as we are driving…read moredown I-10 and there is about 10 billboards advertising the many different travel plazas in southern New Mexico. I actually never stopped at one of these before because when I was younger my grandparents always flew through New Mexico and never would stop for anything. What made me stop this time around? Because my boyfriend saw that billboard for the desert bot which too him looked too much like a transformer so like a child he begged me to stop so he can see the robot. I'm not gonna lie, the robot was pretty good and he has his own little merch going on there. The billboard mentioned homemade cookies, which I actually did try and while they may not be world famous, they taste really good for gas station cookies. Their snack selection is pretty limited and their drink selection you will miss it if your not actively looking for it. It definitely wasn't crowded and the workers there were friendly. You do have to pay pretty far from the cashier though so don't be shocked if your cashier is at the register and your two counters away checking out. Overall its a nice stop and I recommend if the kiddos are acting up, to stop here and let them see the desert transformer.

I don't have anything to compare the price to, but it seems based on whatever the owner would like to charge since I heard a different price for me vs another person that asked (same item just different color). These items are nicely made and would definitely last quite a while. They don't fit in every setting, but it would be a really nice add if you're able to find something!

They grow a lot of chillies out here and the first time I heard about Hatch, NM was when I was at a farmers market in Santa Fe NM. I stopped in here today to check out their goods and they have a lot to offer! When you walk in, you will immediately smell all the wonderful aromas of chillies! They have lots of different kinds of chillies for sale here. They have frozen green chillies in the back, and also red pepper flakes, dried red chillies, chipotle, canned salsa, dried pecans and more chillies! They also have many imported goods from Mexico here and saw all sorts of housewares on sale here. You can get Mexican style tiles here, aprons, all sorts of ceramics, mortar and pestle, ristras, clothes, purses, hats. I opted to get a Hatch NM T-shirt, a pretty badass cowboy hat with a raptor attacking a snake image on the front, some dried chipotle and some dried mangos with chamoy and chili. The dried mangoes are delicious, tart, sweet and spicy! Definitely stop into this place if you're passing thru Hatch NM, lots of gifts and products to choose from!
