At this Gothic tradition, described by Jon Meacham, "...visitors come from across the South to experience classic services modeled on the choral majesty of King's College Chapel in Cambridge, England." From last year's program, "In this service we present the double meaning of the Advent season. From the West Door, the Responsory of ancient Matins on Advent Sunday announces the hope of Messiah. Then, the Choir and Chancel party will move in procession from west to east, illustrating the theme "from darkness to light." The subsequent readings and music direct attention to the coming of Messiah, and further, to the Second Coming at the End of the Age. The Christian Church lives between these two points: the first, Christmastide with the incarnation of the Son of God, and the second, His coming again to judge and to recreate His universe." At this service, All Saints is decked out with beautiful poinsettias and the Priest dispenses incense. The stained glass windows are absolutely stunning and the chapel is beautiful! Lessons and Carols annually attracts nearly 3000 people to Sewanee! 2025 will be the 66th Festival of Lessons and Carols! When I have attended tickets were free and it's really important to arrive early, as their is always a line to enter this especially beautiful chapel for this service! The Course at "Sewanee" golf course is absolutely lovely, too! It is a nine hole golf course that was redesigned in 2013. It opened for play in 1915. Thanks, Sewanee for 13,000 beautiful Tennessee acres, and the annual "A Festival Service of Nine Lessons and Carols."

Whenever i go back to visit my parents i always head to Athens to drive through the campus. Beautiful antebellum, pre-civil war bulidings....massive corinthian columns...and beautiful landscaping puts me immediately in a more peaceful place. The academics are on par with the bigger university down the street at a fraction of the cost so it really is a no brainer to attend Athens State.

To start, the school is extremely affordable and yet still offers unparalleled opportunity and ability for personal development. I attended here at an affordable rate, yet this university gave me many great experiences (Simply for being a student!) - access to a 3d printer - amazing concerts - free tutoring - an amazing gym with a rock wall - a huge pool - any sporting facility you can think of - foreign diplomats and artists lectures - fun events - a carnival - political and democratic events In addition, the campus is absolutely beautiful and is always expanding and growing! The university itself is old, but its tech and development is state of the art. The professors are generally helpful, fair, and very professional. I thoroughly enjoyed class and you will too (as long as you do what is required of you!) Many professors here are world class! I was taught by authors, news anchors, politicians, and world travelers... their stories were amazing. They were truly a joy to learn from. (Shoutouts: Dr. Diccico, Prof. Burris, Prof. Oppmann, Dr. Kolar, Prof. Willis, Prof. Kent) The student resources were awesome too! This university is top notch at taking care of its students. We had access to every opportunity possible. We had a Job center, clothing closet, food pantry, general stores, plenty of space to hangout, fun events, a great gym, a pool, a rock wall, mental health services, veterans services, a pharmacy, and even a clinic. (I'm sure there is more, but this is impressive alone) I would also like to say that the experiences and memories I made there were absolutely amazing. I met people from all over the world who attended here, and the quality of education I received was the best of the best. My only complaint is that they need more dorms and of a better quality.

There were 3 tour guides which should have broken is down into groups that were manageable and you can hear the rich and unique history about the university. We enjoyed the members of Omega Psi Phi who gave the students a preview by doing the founders step and engaged them with a chant. The dorms were nice for the students to see, but would have preferred to see one that was not handicap only because all dorm rooms are not like that.

It was 59 years since I marched and got my diploma in Math and English combined in Computer science so seeing classmates was fun. The 4 person panel discussing Dr Council's route to establish the University was dynamic. So many key points were introduced that I surely wished it had been taped. Everyone gave great history points. The president was marvelous in overseeing everything. Walking the campus was awesome. I am sharing some pictures. The commencement exercise was impressive. AAMU graduated so many cum laude, magna and Summa Cum Laude honors that it appeared to have been 30 to 40 percent, at least on the first half. my hat is off to the staff, teachers, music dept and choir plus department heads.

The parking is limited and the satellite parking is located at the Liberty Park location about three quarters of the way from the college. A great alternative to young adults and not so young adults who are looking to get back into school.

U.A.H. When I attended school here it stood for "University At Home." Most of us were locals with…read morea few recruited athletes from other counties and countries. Back then, the duckpond south of Holmes was called "Bra Lake." I spent countless hours on campus, in the Art building, in the library. and even rented a bed in the old old dorms before attending full time. The gym used to be a concert venue and they also hosted a spring outdoor concert series each year both of which were open to the public. My favorite show here was Billy Idol! Rumor has it he swam in the gym pool, without a swimsuit, after the show. It was a great show!!!!! I was fortunate to get a tennis scholarship and for the most part, enjoyed my teammates and the whole college athlete experience. We had exceptional trainers, good facilities, and adequate benefits [per diem meal money when we traveled, free athletic clothing, meal money on campus, 100% books and I believe, 100% tuition.] Academically, UAH is no cake walk! I was completely unprepared my first semester [and UAH was on the semester crammed into a quarter system at that time, I don't know if it is still like that now]. Let's just say I started off on academic probation, when I finished my first term. Again, I didn't really know how to study, and never really had to try in my prior education and did not have or seek out proper guidance to understand how to drop classes in a timely manner. This situation sent me to Calhoun Community College where I upped my GPA and earned 2 Associate degrees. Key in this situation is to always get your community college classes approved for transfer to a school like UAH prior to taking the courses. I did this and only had to contest maybe two Calhoun classes [which I successfully contested and did get the credits approved to transfer to UAH]. This was a huge win because Calhoun was way way less expensive than UAH. Fast forward a few years and I was back attending UAH. I was "undecided" for forever it seems, as I'm not engineering minded, nor gifted in math at all, and was thrilled when I found my niche at this primarily engineering school, in Liberal Arts. It took a lot of work, some help from tutors, and then more work and I finally graduated cum laude. Who hoo! I'm happy UAH is here. Two siblings got degrees here, and our Mom used to volunteer at the OLLI, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, at UAH. I've enjoyed classes which were extracurricular development and not part of my official college curriculum such as yoga, which were held at UAH, and also professional development courses I have taken here. All were organized, well done, and beneficial. U.A.H. is a reputable accredited university with, for the most part, good professors, and a nice campus. Don't rule out their Liberal Arts program, it's legit! U.A.H. is really growing, too! It looks like U.A.H. is rapidly adding more housing and parking facilities on the south side of Holmes east of the fitness center.

UAH Campus Pond is my hidden gem for free, feel-good family time. My son and I love coming here to…read morefeed the ducks, fish, and turtles--it's like a mini wildlife retreat in the middle of campus! The peaceful setting is perfect for soaking up some sunshine, and the excitement on my son's face when the animals come up for a snack. Priceless. If you're looking for a laid-back outdoor activity, this place is a win every time.

The area is indeed nice, but for the money they expect you to spend the staff should be able to answer your questions and give you directions without acting like you are pulling teeth. We visited one school where even the students would happily take the time to escort you to the office you were looking for. Dont expect even the staff at UNA to do this. Communication is virtually non-existence between the students and staff and it seems there is no encouragment or guidlines for how prospective or active students to be treated

I had a good experience at Calhoun back when. I attended Calhoun when they had satellite campuses…read moreall over the place. The main campus was (and I guess still is) in Decatur, and yes you had to attend a lot of classes there; however, they also had satellite classrooms on Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville High School and in "THE Mall" - yes where Barnes and Noble is now, only further down the mall - you had to hang a left at the western themed bar and it was on the east side of The Mall where Picadilly used to be. We always joked that if you leaned in closely enough to the cinder walls you could still hear the servers saying "Serve you, Serve you please?!?!?!" :D Because high school was such a breeze for me and really did not prepare me for college, I started UAH with a whopping 1.0 and yes, academic probation my first semester. I had no idea you could drop a class and really did *not* think the professors meant what they said when they assigned voluminous amounts of reading/coursework with only a day or so to accomplish it, and I paid for it with terrible grades my first semester. Enter Calhoun! Calhoun to the rescue! I took classes all over north Alabama or at least it felt like it with part time college professors and full time ones, too. Anyway, it was still hard work; however the staff were friendlier than UAH, more accommodating to those of us who worked, and had more of a smaller, diverse group of students. I still learned and I learned a LOT at Calhoun! I managed to pull my grades up to graduate with two associates at cum laude and transfer back to UAH to do the same with 1 BA cum laude. The tip for anyone planning to do a similar approach to getting a degree is to stay in touch with UAH and ensure each class and associated credit *will* transfer from Calhoun to UAH. To me, and I'm sure to any college student, these hours are pretty much worth gold and you don't want to lose them! Also, don't be afraid to take any issues where a credit is denied to the Dean (or higher if necessary) to argue your case. Pay attention to the handbooks (if that's a thing anymore) and ensure the classes align in terms of course content. Oh, and another good thing about Calhoun is you don't rack up 1000s of parking tickets by attending there.
