Doctor Martin is by far the best vet we have ever known, and we've known several. He is so compassionate and knowledgeable. He is also realistic and knows your animals. Also, today we saw Dr. Colon Bristle. He was so kind and knowledgeable. Reminds me of Dr. Martin's warm demeanor. Appointments are never rushed and they do really well to give you advice even after hours. I once had to take my dog to the ER close to me after hours and Dr. Martin was so kind and encouraging without giving false hope or doagnosis but reassurance that I was doing the right thing (dog ended up just fine). When you pull up you just give them a call & they'll have your room ready. Super convenient for me since it's close but the vets, techs & front desk are all so nice. The vets are all super helpful. After going to a vet for nearly 30 years, I had the opportunity to meet another Veterinarian through the rescue work I did and transporting for local rescues and animal controls. I cannot tell you how fortunate I was to have made his acquaintance, and then over weeks, months, seeing how he was 'all about the animals only', and truly lived that, I had no trouble changing to Martin Veterinary Hospital in Herculaneum, MO. Dr. Andrew Martin is probably the most truly compassionate and caring vet I have ever been associated with in over 43 years of living here. He's a big man, but not so big that he doesn't get down on the floor with the animal he is meeting or treating; he's gentle with them, he is so caring and gentle. As the parent of at one time 21 animals I was caring for through rescue work, he never said he didn't have time to fit me in or make sure he was able to care for the animal I needed medical care for, or assurance things were going well. Dr. Martin has a smile that lights up the room, he can laugh with you, or he can give you a hug when you have lost a loved one; he is gentle and caring; all animals are what he practices for, his goal always to heal them, keep them comfortable, speak with the 'parents'; he doesn't have the word 'no' in his vocabulary when it comes to someone calling suddenly and saying 'I need your help!'....somehow an opening is found that day, if not immediately, and the animal, the beloved pet, is his primary concern completely. I am unsure how I would have survived the past 5 years without him in my corner and the absolutely wonderful, perfect care and compassion he has for all living things. He's soft, but straightforward; he's calm, but honest when the hard news has to be shared; he hates having to say he couldn't fix 'something' that was beyond his power and knowledge; it hurts him to lose a patient nearly as much as it does the pet's parent. He's generous, compassionate, caring, always finds time when it is needed; he doesn't turn animals away and works with the moms and dads of his patients, because make no mistake, the pet they bring to him becomes as important to him as to you. You are entrusting him with them; he takes that extremely seriously and has never once let me down, although there have been several times I have openly wept, knowing my tears hurt him as well. Oh, there are other vets in the Jefferson County area, but there are none as trustworthy, honest, compassionate and caring as Dr. Drew Martin. My partner and I were graced with a kitty we adopted from The Goode Life Rescue (the animal rescue next door) in late January. Perry loved the vet's when we went for our first check-up! From the moment I went in, the atmosphere was very calming. The folks at the front desk were very sweet. We went into the examination room and Dr. Martin was so nice!! He sat down on the floor with Perry who was a little scared and was under the table in there at first. He made us both feel very comfortable and didn't seem to judge me when I was asking a bunch of crazy questions about our furbaby. I highly recommend these services. Heck, I live in St. Louis and drive about 40 minutes to get there because it is worth it. read more

Dr. Martin and his staff are the best! We took our dog, Kobe, to two other vets in the Twin City area, who both missed our lab's diagnosis of bone cancer for an ACL injury. Within just a few minutes with Dr. Martin, we had the correct dx (even before an x-ray confirmed it). It was a horrible thing to experience, but Dr. Martin gave us all of the information needed to make our decision about ongoing care. When the time came to say goodbye to our Kobe, the staff was compassionate and caring and followed up with us to make sure we were doing well. For starters, when I got both of my dogs back from being spayed/neutered they were in a crate full of dog poop that they laid in it all day. Later they were both weirdly lethargic and I knew something was wrong. Turns out, they BOTH had infections and a botched job. I am beyond upset and mad about my experience, and I would never recommend this place. Both my dogs are on a bunch of medicine to sort of help how this hospital messed up. read more

I thought I had found the perfect vet I really did like him..but i have just lost a beloved pet not directly due to Dr Martin but I feel like he could have saved me so much pain. My 15 yr old had bad teeth--sneezing etc. He suggested pulling all teeth..I was worried about it but thought if her labs come out okay then maybe we could make her more comfortable. He did the labs but didnt call me with results-just went ahead with the surgery. When i picked her up and asked about labs he said they were fine--just one little abnormality but not enough to not do the surgery. So we went home feeling guilty that we did the surgery but happy that her labs were normal.Fast forward a week i took her back told him she wasnt doing good etc she couldnt walk. he did nothing just said give her a month to heal.Then Sat to VSS and they did labs--told me she was dying her labs were off the charts we had to put her to sleep. So i came home and got a copy of Dr Martins labs---and they were as bad as VSS he did the surgery even though her labs were abnormal and i feel he has put me thur so much pain and guilt for going thur with the surgery, I have never had to ask for proof of normal labs before with any dog--i trusted the vet that he wouldnt do the surgery if they were abnormal. Well not this guy he did it anyway. read more

Couldn't have found a better Vet. He treats your pet as if it was his own. He spent as much time with me as he did with my baby boy Dexter. He answers any & all questions one might have to how to keep your child/pet healthy & happy. I can't say enough good things about Dr Martin, his staff & how he respects you & your loved one. Dr Martin is very knowledgeable in both small and large animal care. He takes care of every animal we own and does it very well, too. We have horses, goats (which is almost impossible to find a vet knowledgeable in goat care), dogs, cats, mini pigs plus. His prices are very reasonable and he doesn't ask for tests he doesn't think are necessary or charge exorbitant prices for the ones he does. He loves to teach and is willing to spend all the time he needs answering questions and educating you on the care of your animals. A very sweet, low key man. I recommend him to any of our customers who purchase goats because I want my goats to have the best care even when I no longer own them. read more

Lucky find! A friend of mine referred us to this place; she takes her foster dogs here. At first I wasn't sure about coming here, because referrals mean almost nothing. So, I visited their Facebook page and immediately called them up to schedule an appointment. A month prior my dog had signs of having allergies and I wanted to be sure that he didn't actually have them. Getting to the place was a little confusing; it's up on this windy hill next to two other buildings. Kinda hidden, but once you get there and see the location it's actually pretty nice. When we first walked in the door a woman was petting this adorable cat sitting on the counter and was talking to the lady at the front desk. She seemed happy with her and the atmosphere was very laid back so we were already comfortable with coming here. Once we got up to the counter the cat was put up just for safety precautions and out of common courtesy. That was awesome because I wasn't sure how my puppy and a cat would get along. After filling out a quick form we were put into a room. The walls were purple and the only furniture/objects in the room were a table and two chairs. We waitied a little bit for the vet to come in but he was sincere and apologized explaining why he'd been late getting to us. He answered all of my questions and didn't rush or leave the room at all. Almost like we had all of the time in the world. For the allergies, he didn't try to run any tests or give him any weird shots but suggested a more simple method and gave us a piece of paper with his recommendation. YEP, no expensive medication. Before we left he gave my dog a treat. Which is awesome! More vets should do that. It'll help calm the dog down and train them. In the end my puppy made a new friend, I met a trustworthy person/vet, and we didn't break the bank. It's only a 40 dollar visit fee or whatever that's called. Anyways we're very happy and can't wait to return. read more
