I'm excited to bring my son here for his first pumpkin picking experience in a few months! Year round, they have the best apple cider donuts. The cinnamon sugar is our favorite but all of the flavors are fresh and delicious. It's worth the trip just to try them, trust me!

Yet the county has a rich history in farming and agriculture from the late 1600s up into the 1970s. The small farms in north Jersey do more than just provide fruits and vegetables for our tables. They are open-air classrooms to our agricultural past, places to buy fresh produce and baked goods to support local family farm stores, and places for interesting special events and outings for families. Being the first Saturday after Labor Day, my partner and I got a head start on the apple cider donuts made fresh daily, just oozing with apple cidery goodness and never hot. Since 1973, located on Airmont Avenue in Mahwah, Secor Farms is a reminder of Bergen County's rural past and one of the last farms left in the area, passed down through three generations. Upon arrival in the afternoon, parking was not an issue with only a handful of vehicles. However, the farm comes alive starting Sept 15 with a corn maze, hayrides, pumpkin picking, and a petting zoo where reservations are required, with all sorts of activities. Their outside garden centers had pumpkins, gourds, fall decorations, and mums for purchase. We went inside their marketplace full of produce and managed to get a bag of mixed apple cider donuts and a quart of apple cider. These baked donuts have the sweet tartness of apple cider with a coating of cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar. They were soft, moist, tender, and tastefully delicious. The price was reasonable. The staff was friendly. We can recommend this place.

Prices are reasonable and I love that you can get a lot of things in bulk. When going for your first time be prepared to spend a while as this place is huge. Also, a little sidenote, it's located in a strip mall which has a lot of traffic. Once you enter into where the sign is, you have to walk to the back of the building and you'll find the store on the left.

In addition to fresh produce and shelf goods, there are also seafood, meat, and deli departments, as well as baked goods. The Latin American section is the most extensive (catering to the local clientele), followed by Caribbean - I'd come here for specialty items for those cuisines. There is also a small Polish section (but no other Eastern European stuff). Some Indian. However the Asian section is dismally sad, and has only tepid mainstream brands like Roland, Geisha, and Kikkoman (OK Kikkoman soy sauce is the best tho!). Not even good sesame oil or noodles. But for authentic Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or SE Asian products, I would just go to one of several excellent dedicated Asian food markets in NJ. There are also few gourmet/epicurean global culinary products, but then again this isn't that kind of store, and is much more down home. The store feels a bit dingy and the aisles can be cramped, but I do like browsing and coming across interesting or less familiar items I can incorporate into my cooking, try new delicacies, or finding specific ingredients or spices called for in certain dishes I'm making. Prices are reasonable and not subject to the typical "imported/special ethnic foods" upcharge at a Wegmans or whatever for certain products that are very basic and cheap in its country of origin.

I don't live in the area but nevertheless I go out of my way to shop and tell everyone I.know to.go. 2 weeks ago I bought a honeydew, half an orange flesh melon and a watermelon.. I specifically said I wanted it ripe for that evening. The orange flesh and watermelon were good. The honeydew went straight in the garbage. It was not close to ripe. But 2 days later the orange flesh and watermelon.also went in the trash because they had turned rancid. Today U went back. I had every intention of making a purchase, but wanted to inform the store of the subpar produce ( that cost an arm and a leg btw) from my last visit. The staff are friendly and very accommodating. The person whom I can only assume is the owner. Is quite nasty. He claimed this has never happened to him in 43 years and that I didn't store the fruit properly and I should've called. He was quite rude and has a lot to learn about customer service. The staff however were very apologetic and could not have been nicer. He is lucky to have them, and I hope he treats them.better than he treated me this morning.

The dishes that this team puts together in that kitchen are absolutely magical and filled with flavor. I discovered them a few years ago when I had a craving for fresh homemade pasta. The pasta is made fresh daily and also sold by the pound for take home meals. I don't get the pleasure of dining in often because it's always packed when I visit but this time there was a lonely table waiting for me. The restaurant is small and intimate. Casual but perfect for a date night or solo dining. In the summertime they have picnic tables outside to dine at as well. The focaccia bread is made in house daily and is served warm with a drizzle of good olive oil and flakey salt. Don't ever skip out on the bread!! The cucumber salad was inspiring. The cucumbers were served on a bed of hazelnut fava bean hummus??? Excuse me? My mouth is still watering from looking at the photos. It was so fresh and tangy. The pasta dish was warm, filling and cozy. It settled in all the right places and makes you feel warm and fuzzy. The chocolate chip cookies are also a must!! I'm not sure if they use cake flour or something because the cookies are crunchy on the edges but think and chewy once warmed up. They are not skimping on the chocolate inside either! Overall my meal was perfect, I cannot wait to dine here again to taste the love and magic that goes into each dish. PS- the menu is mostly seasonal so try what you can before the menu changes!
