Since I'm new to this office, and since I have new insurance, before booking my appointment I called to verify that her office accepted it. I gave them the details about my plan and was told that they were "pretty sure" I was covered, but that I may want to call Aetna, just to make sure. I did so and was told that this provider was in-network. Great! I get to the office for my appointment and the receptionist tells me, "This visit may or may not be covered by your insurance". Well then what the hell is the point of having insurance if it doesn't cover the damn visit?? She told me something about some other Aetna patients having to pay a portion or all of the cost of the doctor visit out-of-pocket. I told her that I had verified, both with someone from their office as well as with Aetna, that this provider was in-network so there should be no problem. I added that this was something they should have mentioned to me over the phone BEFORE I booked my appointment. I called Aetna while I was in the office and again they verified that this provider is in-network. I asked that they (Aetna) send me something in writing stating so, in the event that this office tries to send me a bill for a routine visit that is supposed to be covered. Moving on to the good part, Dr. Brody was patient, polite, and very professional. Before my exam, she brought me into her office to discuss my medical history as well as offer me the opportunity to ask questions. I told her about my anxiety with these exams and she offered me the option of medication to ease the anxiety, should I need it. Throughout the exam, which was quick and minimally uncomfortable, she explained everything that was happening and checked frequently to make sure I was ok. Despite the rough start, I left her office with a smile on my face. I appreciated her patience and professionalism and I highly recommend her.

I was explained it was NOT covered by insurance (Yeah, I figured that out when you called and said "Administrative Fee", Thanks.) "It is just our office policy to charge this fee". I inquired about what it was for, exactly. (I was wondering if it covered things like the lab work and any extra test they may deem necessary in the treatment of a problem or maybe even a 24/7 type service for any possible emergency questions, things like that I would have been ok with, if they were phenomenal, but nope... ,"It's for any paperwork, forms to fill out and referrals" Huh? "Well, I don't need any of those services"... "It's our office policy" OK. Great. Maybe you should include that in you listing on the insurance sites, your patient portal sites and on the Front Page of your website. That is a ridiculous policy. I work in the medical field. I know how to bill insurance and what is covered. I even understand the frustration of that from your side, but, that is not a good enough reason to drive potential customers away. It's just bad customer service. You should be showing these fees on front page of website and on any insurance sites or just say you are not accepting new patients so you don't waste anyone's time. But because I wanted to deliver at Sibley, I ended up coming here anyway. From the other reviews, it seems like if you're planning an abortion, are press for time, or may have a high risk pregnancy ... you'll not have a good experience here. But for me, it was pretty decent. My pregnancy was for spontaneous natural di/di twins so essentially I was sort of high risk. I ended up having more ultrasounds than the singleton pregnancy schedule. A couple of my ultrasound appointments weren't properly communicated so I ended up having to either wait a little longer or come in another day for the ultrasound. A little annoying but I stayed positive for the babies. In the end, everything worked out well but it was pretty consistent for appointments to start late. During my months coming in here, I saw the five doctors that share their patients. These are doctors Davis-Wilensky, Greene (before she switched out of the five), Messinger, Bren, Lightfoote, and Abraham. The one who ended up delivering our twins was Dr. Abraham and she was phenomenal. Because of my complication, I had to stay in Sibley a few days through the thanksgiving holiday and the doc on call was Dr. Beckerman and he was also great. I can see why others would not like the Foxhall practice and some of their doctors based on the reviews I've read but I've been fortunate and blessed to have a much better experience for my pregnancy. Do what's best for you mamas!

While some of the providers were fantastic, my experience with Dr. Scott Osmun was absolutely horrific. When I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, Dr. Osmun was incredibly negative, relying on scare tactics and outdated data rather than providing balanced, evidence-based guidance. When I asked him to send me literature to support his claims, he couldn't--or simply didn't. Instead of offering support, he made an already stressful diagnosis even more overwhelming. Unfortunately, I ended up delivering with him as well, and the experience was just as frustrating. He insisted a C-section was inevitable because I wasn't progressing fast enough. I requested a few more hours with my doula (most doulas refuse to work with Bloom because of Dr. Osmun), and we used positional techniques--something he completely dismissed--to help labor progress. Sure enough, I was able to fully dilate to 10 cm. Then, he insisted I would need forceps or a vacuum because my baby was hitting my pelvic bone. Again, we asked for more time, and I was able to deliver my baby without intervention. Instead of allowing me the standard 30 minutes to deliver my placenta naturally, Dr. Osmun immediately performed a manual extraction, a painful and unnecessary intervention. His priority seemed to be rushing the process rather than respecting my body's ability to do what it needed. In appointments, he was condescending and dismissive, treating me like I was an uninformed mother who knew nothing--despite my background in health. His attitude, coupled with his outdated approach to care, made me feel unheard and disregarded. That being said, I absolutely loved Dr. Abdalla, Lauren Gordon, and Clare Heintzelman. They provided compassionate, thoughtful care, and I truly appreciated their expertise. However, no matter how great they are, the risk of ending up with Dr. Osmun again has made me switch practices. Another issue with Bloom OBGYN is their annual $100 fee, which feels classist and unnecessary for a practice already profiting from patient care. Overall, while some of the doctors here are excellent, my experience with Dr. Osmun was enough to make me leave the practice entirely. If you're considering Bloom, be mindful of which provider you see.

Find another OB - Dr. Osmun is fantastic but it's not worth potentially having your baby with Loveland if she's the doctor on call that day...

She said I should still be doing a breast exam even though the AMA says not to. I'm not sure who to believe. When I mentioned the problems I had with their phone confirmation process, she said it was "above her pay grade" and said I should talk to the office manager. I told her when I made an error trying to reconfirm my appt, there was no way to rectify it. I spent 1/2 hr on the phone with the call center and they were very unhelpful. I was very upset when the call center said to me I had lost the appt "fair and square"!! There was nothing fair about it. I made the appt six weeks out and then lost it because their system is horrible. They don't ask you to confirm your cancellation. It's just cancelled. No second chance. No email. I needed the appt to refill prescriptions before the end of the year. They refused to rebook my appt. even when I said it was a medical issue. I emailed the office several times using their portal with no luck. They said to call the day when I had my original appt to see if someone had cancelled. So I did. Guess what?! My original appointment time was available! There's something wrong here. I want to note that the in-office staff were all pleasant and friendly. It was the call center staff and manager who were unhelpful. Customer service is apparently not a priority for GWU. That's unfortunate.

It wasn't as uncomfortable as I thought it would be - Dr. Kesselman was very professional and talked to me throughout the whole exam and always told me what she was doing and why and kept me talking to help keep my mind off of the awkward part. Dr. Kesselman is great and I would recommend her practice to others.
