Hello everyone who has a heart of giving! My personal experience at this organization by the name of Mary's Kitchen Pantry is severely disorganized severely. I offered my time and they confirmed a day and time, twice. I arrived on time and geez it was the worst. Ignored and worst of all not needed, they have my phone number and email. I went to a "pop up " food bank of them today. They were very very rude, disrespectful AND unhelpful to me. I got nothing but a small bag of fried chicken! I needed fresh ground beef, turkey and chicken breasts. I politely asked for fresh meat. They had fresh meat and THEY FLATLY REFUSED to give me any!!! I argued with them of my financial struggles. And they rudely yelled at me and I told them off! And they told me not to come back anymore. I yelled at them in BOTH languages. I have complained to their bosses and I will go elsewhere for food! This place is WORTHLESS and so are these evil people!!! Not worth it! A good day to you all. read more

My volunteering experience is great but I have to give this place a one star. The front desk guy and his buddy was very rude, lazy, arrogant, and ungrateful. I signed up to pack food for 3 hours but we were done early. So, they told us to clean up the front area which I isn't in our volunteering description through the company signed up. I voiced my opinion and they told me to SIT DOWN like they are the BOSS of me. I just walked out. It is their job to clean up their shit, we were there to pack the food not do their job for them while they sit on their ass. Overall will not volunteer here again and I will voice this to my company. Food Bank is a much cleaner and people there are wonderful. read more

These people are angels on earth. My husband and I are experiencing very tough times. It is a tremendous blessing that places like this exist for our food needs. You can call to find where they'll be distrusting; it could be a school, church, or something similar. That's where you can pick up what you need. And, they have every kind of great quality food donated by the top grocery stores. No seconds, no discarded or damaged food at all. We feel truly blessed by having found this place. This shelter is right next to the Orange police station. They have security here and there are lots of volunteers helping out. They are very busy, so they do not have time to pick up the phone, but they accept food donations. Most places are not due to covid, so this is nice that they accept it. They are very appreciative of it and I'm feel happy to help out people that need it. read more

"The world is full of good people. If you can't find one be one" - Mother Teresa Mary's Kitchen is a great opportunity to give back to the community. I've only gone in on Saturday afternoons. They usually have two shifts, morning (7 am - 11 am?) and afternoon (10 am - 2pm). Once you walk on the property, you walk up the ramp and check in inside. You grab a name tag and start working some magic. There's a handful of things they have you do. It can vary from brewing coffee, making food entrees, or preparing the dessert cart. If you want to be more hands on and interact, they serve a full hot breakfast and lunch to the homeless. I was pretty impressed with the meals being served. Looks like something from a restaurant. As for the behind the scenes, they have you prepare food in the kitchen. Hope your sandwich making skills aren't rusty because they make 200 packed lunches for the homeless. It actually goes by pretty fast. They provide water and snacks in between so you don't lose momentum! Mary's Kitchen is mighty and strong. Everyone comes in so ready to help out. This is a great place to volunteer. We even served in the rain. It wasn't ideal weather but it still makes a difference. Talk about dedication! The people are nice and welcoming. It warms my heart to see so many decent human beings, offering a hand to their brothers and sisters through Christ. They do not discrimate over socio economic status, sex, religion, or color. Amen. I happen to help deliver fruit picked via the Rotary Club of Placentia to Mary's Kitchen. The staff that receive the food are so helpful in directing where it goes and generously appreciative of the efforts. This morning, I was touched further. To see a live band playing music, a station set up for manicures and pedicures, another canopy where free haircuts are being given, and an area with racks of clothing, is what gracious giving is all about. Mary's Kitchen is a beautiful organization. From the guests to the volunteers to the captains EVERYONE is so genuinely nice and welcoming! I've volunteered at a few Kitchens and this one is by far the best. Their only agenda is to serve. That's it. I started volunteering here because of a college course I was taking and have continued to come and help! After spending a few months here, interviewing the executive director and other research I have to say Mary's Kitchen does a phenomenal job at what they do. Tips: call ahead to see what days you could be most helpful. Breakfast served around 9 and lunch served at 1. Wear close toed shoes! Every day is run by a different crew, so if you don't mesh well with one group there are 5 other days for you to try! read more

Came here through a friend's volunteer group and I'll definitely be back here at least once a month. Sadly, I grew up in Orange my entire life and had no idea this place even existed! It was definitely a humbling experience. The members of the kitchen were all extremely welcoming and selfless. One of the moments that really stuck out to me was when one of the guys had said, "check your ego at the door... when you walk in here, you're equal with everyone else". Everyone worked equally as a team and no one complained of whatever task they had. I chopped potatoes, washed dishes, and flipped well over 200 pancakes. Kudos to all the chefs that work in restaurants, standing over that huge stove reminded me of my burger flipping days at In-N-Out. I definitely wouldn't be able to do that ALL day. The place is opened every day except for Saturday. On Saturday, they serve breakfast and hand out bagged lunches so the "guests" will have food on Sunday as well. Also- every third Saturday of the month they give free haircuts and a few other services. This place definitely really blew me away and it's heartwarming knowing there are so many people out there that work here every week to help others. read more

Been Volunteering more lately,,,trying different spots. This place was well organized and the people were very nice. If you volunteer here just park on the street and wait until they open the gates and then just walk on into the building and ask where you sign in and where they need you...I helped unload a container full of donated clothes and then helped sort it out into mens/womens and diffrent sizes...afterwards helped distribute them to those in need who were lined up to receive some aid. Decent time...went with like 6 friends. They provided cold water and snacks (cupcakes and fruit) to us while we were working. read more

I had to do some volunteer hours for my nursing class and my professor recommended this soup kitchen over other places! Everyone here is so friendly and happy to have you helping them out. The staff members are super nice and appreciative. When I first got here, I parked out in the street and I saw many homeless people lining up to wait for food and clothes. Right when the black gates open, you can just walk into the office and Hazel will be there to greet you and have you sign in. I worked with Lorraine most of my time here and she's super nice! She has so much patience too. I highly recommend Mary's kitchen if you need to do volunteer hours or community service hours! read more

Been volunteering for 2 years and find this is a welcome place for our homeless brothers and sisters. We serve delicious breakfast and lunch, plus provide a sack lunch every day except Sunday. We also provide showers, washer and dryer services, a mailing address where we accept mail for all of our customers that need it. We also have one day (Thursday) that we give out clothing and sometimes some other things that are donated. We try and provide most of the everyday items we all need to keep ourselves as well groomed as possible If you want to volunteer at a place that is dedicated to helping our less fortunate, this is the place to come. read more

I volunteered here for a few hours today. I never volunteered ever so I had no idea what to expect. I was asked to fill the paper lunch bags with water bottles, Apple sauces, condiments, chips and cookies while the others were in an assembly-line making sandwiches. We made 100 sack lunches and boxed them up for delivery and distribution. Immediately after clean up, we started to make lunch in the kitchen. I felt a little out of place as it was my first time there but no one ever made me feel that way. I was slightly reluctant to go at first, but while I was there and seeing all the people volunteering their time and people outside waiting for food, I knew I was doing a good thing. read more

today i went for the first time,as i was hungary for several days and needed a shower. lots of people , a tuff crowd to get your head around ,who is here and what kind of people. its an adult situation for sure. the folks helping are doing a huge favor for the folks in need. nice to have big guys controling the crowd.security more visible helps. i met some nice folks ,share smiles,lots of food ,wish i had been there before , im clean and stomach full, better then i ve been in a while. the crew in the kitchen looked well organised and very busy, lunch was huge and healthy.great job whoever is running the place.the volunteers are nice folks very appreciated. and many that were there as well are too. :] read more

This might have been a good experience except that one of the older volunteers said to me, "do you know who had tattoos back in my day? Drunker sailors and prostitutes." Thanks asshole for the implication that I'm somehow inferior because I have a tattoo. Most of the volunteers on Wednesday were an older group of people in their 50's-80's. The man who said that to me was an old white male, Catholic- judgmental and hypocritical as usual. I came to serve others but got insulted instead. Oh well, that's life. I will probably choose somewhere else to volunteer where people are not so judgmental. read more

My comment is from the point of view of someone in need of the services provided be Mary's kitchen . . . I recently found myself unemployed and fighting cancer. My needs were a little more complex than just an warm meal. I hoped someone at Mary's kitchen could help or at least point me in the right direction. I was directed to the person in charge and she was unable / unwilling to provide any assistance or information. It seems they do a good job of meeting the needs of those who meet their specific criteria. Anyone whose needs falls outside a meal / shower should look elsewhere. I truely expected that a group that prides itself on helping the needy in the community would have shown more compassion. read more

THey dont help you find jobs.. sorry but its true The police show up too many times over theyears. Alot of the regulars are professional drifters who are lazy.
