Spring cleaning and I wanted to make sure my quality goods didn't go to waste. I have so much brand new work clothing or worn once bridesmaid dresses that I know can be helpful to someone else. I found Orange County Rescue Mission and I love the support they provide for the community so I decided I wanted to give my donations to them. Orange County Rescue Mission is open Friday to Wednesday from 8am-5pm, Closed Thursdays. They have a convenient area for you to drive up, and their volunteers are super nice and will be more than happy to help you lift and unload your donations. Honestly if I had known exactly how simple this process would be & how friendly and nice the people there had be, I probably would have gone a LOT sooner. I've previously had my donations picked up, or gone to donation bins, or dropped a few things off at Goodwill. Orange County Rescue Mission has a drive thru drop-off for your donations. I had 5 boxes, so a lovely gentleman brought a bin on wheels over and helped me put my boxes inside. He asked if I would need a receipt for my taxes but I politely declined. I do believe the items I donated had good value but I don't have much experience with taxes and previous receipts I've gotten usually end up missing by tax season. Prior to donating my things, I was able to go on their website and see exactly what items they accept. This helped a LOT because there were actually a lot of items I wouldn't have even considered donating like unused toiletries. I would probably try to give them to a family member or a friend of perhaps end up just tossing it away. I'm really glad they provide a list of acceptable items for donating!! I hope other people who wish to donate items really do READ lists such as this one, so they are aware of what can be donated. I just remembered people from my past who would try to donate opened foods, & insisted they were still good because they were non-perishables. Some people just don't know you can't donate ANYTHING. I don't understand people who donate things that they wouldn't use, if the same or similar item were donated to them (in the same manner). Some behaviors are perplexing. Anyway!! I LOVE this place and I'm currently working on filling up another 3 boxes. I'll have to go buy some more boxes so I can start sorting through my storage unit as well!! I do have a few questions on some items and what condition they must be in to be accepted for donation. I'm pretty sure they had a number on the same page that I could call and ask, which I will be doing, just haven't gotten around to it yet! Great organization, great cause, great people. I had the pleasure of learning more about the OC Rescue Mission and its efforts after signing up for their Annual Turkey Trot this year. Upon bib pickup I learned that the rescue mission accepts donations, offers housing assistance, basic needs assistance and health services to at risk and homeless individuals and their families in Orange County. They also have onsite facilities for housing support, counseling, and educational opportunities. A great organization supporting so many in our community. read more

I had a lot of stuff for donations and came across this spot during a quick search. So glad I did! The donation experience was so easy and wonderful! Drive-thru donation drive without needing an appointment was so helpful, especially since I had a dog with me. I just drove up, they helped get me a bin to put all the stuff in, and asked if I needed to fill out the Item Donation Receipt for taxes. I then asked one of the workers about possible volunteer work and the work they do there. It's so great that they help from shelter (people actually live there while working there) and then they also help with job searches AND financial knowledge. I love this. Staff/volunteers are always helpful and without even asking help with bringing things from my car to the donation bins. I love the help they offer for the community and when donating sometimes I bring a variety of items and they help divide where they go. Overall, you can bring any kind of donations here furniture, clothes, shoes, hygiene supplies, food and they appreciate everything. I found the most precious cats and they're sisters. I first got Joobie and she was such an incredible sweet baby. She seemed lonely, so I went back to the shelter, about a month or 2 after I got Joobie and one of her sisters was still waiting for a home. There was so many adorable kittens, it was a difficult decision. Both my kitty's were from a hoarding situation. Well I decided to get the sister Belle and it was the right decision!! read more

Today was my third time donating clothes and toiletries to the OC Rescue Mission, and honestly this kind of a place where they actually house homeless people who actually use the things I donate is the only kind I really want to donate to anymore. I'm sick of those charitable organizations that pretend to help the disadvantaged and actually only take donations to sell them first and then maybe part of the proceeds may make it to those in need. The OC Rescue Mission is an impressive organization with multiple residential facilities, and the main location for donation drop-offs has an enormous warehouse where I imagine they store donations that cannot be put to immediate use. The attendants are always so beautiful in spirit, and the OC Rescue Mission is Christianity-based, which I love for a sense of spiritual guidance and community. If I were ever to go homeless, this is where I would come to myself to build myself back up to financial independence. The quality of the goods they request is essentially new, like new, or gently used in some cases. The value I get in being able to donate straight to the homeless and such a beautiful organization, rather than shadier charitable organizations, is priceless and I'm very grateful for the existence of the OC Rescue Mission! read more

I wanted to donate to a new organization other than goodwill. That being said, I won't be coming back this one unfortunately. I went to drop off donations that included clothing and brand new tumbler cups. I put the bags in the donation bin since there wasn't a worker out there and other donators were doing the same. Then a guy came out of the center and started throwing the bags we just dropped off from the original bin to another. But he threw the bags so carelessly that he ended up throwing one of the brand new cups on the ground and it almost hit another car that was also dropping off. I watched him during the whole situation. He laughed, stared at us in the car and then just picked it up and threw it into the bin. I get it, workers were there for a paycheck or for community hours but damn, At least be somewhat careful with the donations so others can have something nice and not something already damaged due to carelessness. read more

i do a semi annual purge of my closet i had about 6 bags of clothes to give and a few food items this is the first time going to an OCRM and the location via apple maps was a bit hard to find i would recommend getting on valencia ave and turn onto lansdowne rd then right on hope dr and follow the road to oc rescue mission's parking lot once i arrived, noticed how clean it looked on the exterior i was greeting as i was exiting my vehicle. he asked if i needed a receipt, i declined. a staff member rolled a huge cart to my car as i unloaded my bags of clothes the entire interaction took less than 3 mins hopefully my old items go to a good home to someone who needs it! until next time! read more

This is an amazing program that can truly save lives and provide a true transformation from a life of darkness to walking with God. Most people enter this program depleted of hope and no idea how to regain meaning to their lives. Embarrassingly, I had to surrender myself to the care of this program twice before I found success. Pepper has been a huge lifeline for me and never lost hope in me even when everyone else had. She has built an amazing Alumni program that continues to offer support, accountability, community, and resources to the students after they leave, and I think that is 100% key to maintaining this progress once we transition back to self-sufficiency. Unfortunately, this Alumni program was not originally in place after my first time completing this program. Now I lean into opportunities that Pepper provides us to stay connected and I know that I can lean on her anytime day or night if I need a nudge in the right direction. So, shout out to Pepper for all you do for me, and so many others!! read more

I just discovered this place yesterday. The Rescue Mission is located on the west side of the old Tustin Air Base off Redhill, just around the corner from the District. They have a nice drive up area with lots of attendants to take your donations. These guys are good. They almost jump up from the their seats when they see you drive up, a kind of competition to help you!! It's a win, win, for everyone. My house loses some of its clutter, while others less fortunate, gain some free stuff. After my favorite Goodwill location for donations closed, I was looking for a convenient place to take our clothes and household appliances that we no longer need. I feel our used items are being put to good use and will hopefully help the rescue mission in their efforts for the homeless and those in need. Amazing pillar of the community! I have had friends' kids volunteer here and the programs are top notch laser focused on transitioning families and individuals back to productive society. The donation drop off cul de sac is soo convenient. The volunteer workers have the bins ready to meet cars as we all pull up. A donation receipt can be given on demand. They help you unload trunk with a smile and a thank you. I've come probably 4 times so far and each time is a true pleasure knowing these donations are truly impacting the community. I have donated to many orgs in the past that touted home pick-up. But sometimes they are snooty and say it's not packaged just right on the nastygram they leave at my front door because I didn't close the top. So they just leave it on the sidewalk. This is another follow-up to my 2 other piss poor reviews. Once again, now 4 years later they are emailing me their crap again. This has been going on and off for 8 years now. Clearly, they can't get their act together to be professional and abide by donors wishes to not be further contacted or solicited. I will NEVER contribute to this organization and suggest Second Harvest, Salvation Army, Red Cross, or ANY OTHER group! I guess my next step is legal representation. What a waste! read more

I've made it a routine to come by at least once a month to drop off pantry food items, toys and clothes (adult and toddler). The staff are extremely friendly. I'm greeted every time with a how are you? and need any help?. One of the times, I brought 2 new boxes of baby diapers and the guy helping me said "Oh wow, you're going to make one of the mom's very happy today. She really needed diapers." It really resonated with me that I am able to help a family in need, especially those with small children. I've completely stopped donating to GOODWILL or places that don't take items they can't resell for profit. I was shocked Goodwill denied some unboxed items (that were still packaged and never before used). At least I know that my items donated to OC Rescue Mission was going directly to people living on site and they seem to genuinely appreciate it. read more

1.) Rotten Food As students at the VOH they supply us with rotten food. I understand that we as students who are homeless and aren't suppose to be choosing if we are beggars but come on that's still no excuse for spoiled milk, recooking or reheating lasagna in the freezer. Kids have vomited and had sour stomach and had to miss school and work more than once and other students have as well. 2.) Medication Accommodations for children. Because of the food my son's and my friends with children's kids are sick and have stomach bugs they don't have proper medication on hand to help heal these kids. Something that can be an easy fix such as grabbing some 7up and Pedialyte and some kids Pepto-Bismol they don't have. Or cough medicine or cold and flu medication but they want us to utilize the ambulance or our urgent care visits on something we can do ourselves for our kids to get better after all it is a back to work program. As a single parent I can't afford to miss work because my child is unable to have proper medication to heal and get better. Not to mention kids aren't the only one suffering but us adults are too and we have to wait til they have proper medication that is over the counter available if not we are waiting sick and passing germs to our kids and missing work at a back to school program 3.)No EBT/CASH AID/WIC It's hard when we go out on passes at the VOH and we are just with our kids and we are blue lanyard or green with no jobs or funds to spoil our kid out on the weekends is traumatizing for kids. Cause as a parent it's like well then why go if you know the kid isn't gonna be able to enjoy some things of being out. Since they have been stuck at the VOH walls for 90 days with no outside contact can be very detrimental and heartbreaking for both parent and student. Not to mention the help it can provide to save money instead of going to an urgent care or a ambulance because you were able to walk to the store and purchase things for your child to have. Such as an emergency lunch just in case your child has diabetes and you are on the bus. Or when your child is tired and hungry and you are out on a pass and you have no funds just to get snacks or something cold to help your child. Life gets busy with kids not every time we will be prepared and it's always good to have a back up just in case. 4.) Rats & Black Mold, and lint in the VOH. There are huge rats that live here at the VOH they are gross and disgusting and not to mention I am a clean person I have my room clean 75% of the time because I have kids but be realistic like the black mold that is caused because of the poor ventilation in the building. And it's true because when we use the dryers to dry our clothes the lint gets backed up into the walls and into the AC units and we blow that air into our rooms. My boys and I have been coughing since we got here it's been a mess and I don't have enough cleaning products to scrub it. All the build up causes allergies and sicknesses for all students who have complained to case management who do not care nor try to fix the problem. But then the case managers want to give us chores because we are sick and missing work at a back to work program like they say. 5.) Terrible child care at the VOH not suitable to be open as a day care. At the VOH they have an unlicensed daycare where they have students (homeless adults who came to the VOH for help) work as "teachers" to babysit children that belong to other students who live at the VOH. Not certified not licensed or experience. Some have no background or watching kids and they are forced to babysit. Then it's like if drama happens and someone you have drama with takes it personal and takes it out on my kid I would be upset. And the people who are licensed and have experienced: Mrs. Jill, Mrs. Koko, and Mrs.Diane. Just sit at their desks and don't supervise the teachers and watch what is going on and on the weekends men work their too. Student men at the VOH are babysitting kids. They have people changing diapers that don't know what their doing or harming kids. There's a incident that was reported back in JULY 2024 with a former teacher who left. Her name is Mrs. Rebecca. 6.) Favoritism The case managers all have favorites and it shows. You can tell by checking their rooms and seeing how many items I am waiting for months for to receive. How many people get to break the rules and get to get off on a warning. Like we understand that every time you promote to different lanyard you get different privaledges but why is a freshman getting senior priveledges. And they get a warning and women who are married get off easier and get away with so much then the women who are single mothers and single. This is only a small fraction of the things I endured during my stay at the OCRM. read more

With training programs to get you on your feet and moving forward in your life to something better than homelessness without skills. The O.C. Rescue Mission is a good start. It takes the willingness and commitment to go through the process. There are success stories of those who have gone through the program and have made a huge difference in their lives. I highly recommend to anyone who is interested and willing. The case managers are there to encourage and strengthen your resolve to making a better choice in your life. I had picked this place to introduce the group of teens that mentor ,through another organization, about the importance of giving back. I contacted Megan via email to let her know about my group wanting to spend a day helping out in the kitchen and she was more than gracious and grateful for the extra help. Sign up was very easy, I asked her which days were available with a few requested dates of my own and she was happy to pen us down. If you have more than 10 people in your group please let Megan know. Only 8 people are allowed behind th counter to help serve food so you can break your group up into shifts if you have more than 8-10people. I really like how clean and orderly everything was here. I've volunteered at a few soup kitchens and not all of them are run as efficiently as Orange County Rescue Mission. Everyone there, and I mean everyone (from the receptionist, to the kitchen staff , to the people that this mission helps are all so gracious and friendly. My group and I have put OCRM as one of our go to place the next time we want to volunteer as a group down the road! Thanks for having us!!! read more

As you age in life, material goods become less important and being able to give back to the community becomes much more rewarding. It took me over 30 years to realize Christmas isnt always about receiving, but its about being able to make memories with the ones you love and making other people smile. This is such a wonderful orgaization to give back to, and an opportunity to bring smiles to many. We were introduced to the Orange County Rescue Mission through a friend. The rescue Mission houses over 200 residents and helps them get back onto their feet by providing them with shelter, food, clothing, job training, counseling, transportation to school and ect. We were able to collect a full truck load of toys and dropped them off late one Sunday evening. I called ahead, fingers crossed that someone would be there. The information booth had a friendly attendant available till 10:00pm who collected my donation and brought it into their warehouse. The attendant and crew working were very very thankful and told me our donation will make the residents very very happy. One of the workers told me Santa and Mrs Claus had visited the 200 residents the week before and the parents were allowed to pick out 3 toys out of the warehouse to give their children for Christmas from themselves. It sadens me, that any one of us can fall onto our feet, stumble onto hard times and lose everything that we have overnight. It can happen to anyone, through the loss of a job, illness, accident, or just tough times. But, the Orange County rescue mission helps pick people up off their feet and give them a fresh start and lets them know they are not alone. Located in Tustin off Red Hill and Valencia on a tiny street called Hope, in the business area. Just follow your GPS and it will take you all the way to the back. There is a donation area, that us safe and secure. Information booth closes early, or the attendant can buzz you in. They welcome all donations and distribute them to their residents. Highly recommend donating to a well organized and devoted organization like the Rescue Mission rather than a CEO ran large money making "non-profit" like goodwill or others. We recently cleaned up and organized my sons bedroom, also had a whole bunch of outgrown clothes/shoes and was advised to donated the new/like new items to The Rescue Mission... As a Christian and live godly women I felt so wholesome. I do not boast nor ever take for granted anything god has blessed me with, I've grown to be very humble and appreciate the things that I have. I suggest to ask what is in immediate need and run to a local big store like target/Walmart. Today, I'm sure as often they were in need of hair brushes, detangler and laundry soap.
