This place reminded me of whole foods market and eataly. The market was stocked with curious looking spices, European and Asian. It was fun to go through the meats, cheese selections and spices. We finally sat down to eat at the cafe. The woodfire oven looked very nice hut the seating area was not cozy or comfortable. In fact it was cramped and people waiting in line to order were hovering around people who were sitting and eating. The pizza was delicious. Thin crust and just the right juicy, if you know what I mean. The vegetarian focaccia look very good but it wasn't good to eat. The bread wasn't tasty and the cheese tomato combo was just not right. The Vanilla Cronut was a lot like the original NY Cronut and I liked it a lot. Will definitely have the pizza and Cronut if I come back. The desserts looked good as did the breads. Maybe I'll try the olive bread next time. The thing about this particular neighborhood of Skøyen is that it's too cold and deserted even on a Saturday afternoon. This place makes me feel cut off from the world, like a modern and fun-looking ghost town. Ikke koselig! Don't know if I'll go back here. Maschmanns is probably one of my favorite pizza spots in Oslo, but it is also an ideal shopping spot for fresh meat and other organic foods. I definitely love just browsing their shelves! If you come to Maschmanns to shop, keep in mind that the prices are high compared to your local grocery store, but honestly so is any other gourmet food store you choose to shop in! Maschmanns freshly baked pastries and their tasty thin crust pizza can make a bad day feel good in only a few seconds. I've tried a couple of different pizzas and I have never been disappointed. The pizzas are topped with fresh first class meats and vegetables, and you can't really go wrong with that. Sooo yummy! The restaurant itself is a little bit small, and even on weekdays it can get quite full. You order at the registrar, and the food is brought to your table. All in all Maschmanns is a wonderful place to be! read more

Maschmanns is a worthy competitor to Gutta på Haugen for the title of "premier upscale delicatessen in Oslo". In addition to the excellent selection of cheeses, hams, meats, condiments and other culinary treats, Maschmanns is also a restaurant, bakery and pizzeria. The bakery produces very good breads and even better sweet baked goods. Although I generally am not a fan of the cronut trend, I must admit that the cronuts at Maschmanns are pretty tasty. The pizzas are baked in the bakery wood-fired stone oven, and are in the same league as the other great Oslo pizza places (Villa Paradiso, Lofthus samvirkelag, etc.). My experience with the food at the restaurant only served to improve my already very good impression of Maschmanns. They make a point of serving seasonal food, which I think is as it should be. A word of warning, however - Maschmanns charges about triple the price for asian groceries, compared to what you would find in most asian supermarkets in Oslo, so you would be better off buying your curry paste elsewhere... Maschmanns should definitely be a mandatory check on any Oslo foodies' list! read more

Nice modern brasserie proposing a good choice of dishes in the menu plus a plat du jour. I ordered the plat jour Osso buco that was flavorful and plentiful. The funny note is that bread (delicious) is served in paper bags. Lots of paper bags on the table. The store next door is marvelous as well as the backery that proposes very good looking breads and wood baked pizzas. read more

I have not eaten at the grill or brasserie. I have also not bought anything from the market. However, I have had the pizza twice here from the bakery and it is pretty good. It is probably the best pizza I have had in Oslo. The crust is thin and a little crispy and cooked in a stone fired oven, just the way this California girl likes it. I always go for the margherita because I truthfully can't stand anything else on my pizza. There is a perfect amount of cheese, but I will admit it is somewhat oily. I have also tried both the vanilla cream cronut and the regular cronut because I got overly excited when I saw they had them and had yet to try them. I don't know if it were these particular cronuts or if that's how all cronuts taste, but I was not impressed. I had a bite of each and gave the rest to my coworkers. The service here is kind of what kills it. I don't know if it is the language barrier, but they just seem rude. There are also very few places to sit and the chairs are very uncomfortable. So you get the impression that they want you to take the food with you, except they don't have pizza boxes. I am sorry, but why type of place sells pizza, but doesn't provide pizza boxes? My friend had to take her leftovers in a paper bag. So strange!! Anyway, all in all, I would definitely come back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, but I am still waiting to find a gem in this area and I am being let down over and over again. read more

If this was 2 years ago I would have given them 5 stars. They used to have not only the best pizzas in town, but also one of the cheapest, and the service was impeccable. And it was popular. Really popular. On a sunday you could wait 45 minutes to get a takeaway pizza and it was always jam-packed with people. I used to eat there atleast once a week, and recommended it to everyone I knew. Whenever you got there they used to have nice people greeting you, and there were samples everywhere that you were encouraged to try. And they proudly told you about how they made the product, where it was from etc. They used to have packed warm food from the restaurant for a decent price. I remember buying "home made" coq au vin there for 99,- and it was absolutely fantastic. The keywords here are "used to" This was back when they opened up. It's not like this anymore. They've changed the pizzamenu, and none of the chefs that used to be there are anymore. And the quality has gone down... Way down. Now you'll get a bland greasy pizza. Just like 90% of the other restaurants in Oslo. And while the quality has continued to go down, the prices have continued to go up. They almost never have samples anymore, and the staff is grumpy at best. I have no idea what have happened there but I really doubt they will survive the way they are now. I would have given them 1 star if it weren't for the restaurant part that actually still have quality food. read more
