To make things just a little more confusing, this center called "The Plaza" is just across the street from "Dixon Plaza," because someone was really original. Been to Little Caesars a couple times, never had my nails done, don't use dry cleaning much these days and Maria's restaurant closed a year or so ago. So the only reason I roll up? Carniceria Lupita. The movie Half Baked described it as a "bodega." Say it with me, Bo-day-guh. No weed here though. I like this whole shopping center for two reasons: the salsa and the prepared foods from the carniceria. The salsa is a favorite of mine. Kind of a personal thing too. You may hate it. That's okay...I like it. The other is the prepared foods. Burritos, tortas and tacos and I'm sure a bunch of other stuff. But that's just one business. Maria's closed amidst the economic depression of this pandemic. I don't know if I'd gone but if so, it was only once or twice. Nothing of note. Maybe if I need a shirt laundered or my nails did would I come for more than hot salsa. For now, spicy sauce and the occasional taco are the only reasons for me to pay them a visit but really only to the one store.

We finally decided to make a dedicated shopping trip out of it, and I was honestly surprised by how large the outlet center is. There are well over a hundred stores, ranging from designer brands to more everyday retailers, so it's easy to spend an entire day there if you're not careful. We quickly realized it was best to focus on a handful of stores rather than trying to see everything. We ended up visiting places like Clarks, Adidas, Levi's, Banana Republic, and Gap. Every store we walked into had impressive sales for selected items or for everything in the store. Some of the prices were the best I had seen in a while. I walked away with two pairs of shoes and a pair of pants, though still nowhere near as much as my significant other bought! Overall, it turned into a fun and relaxing day. One helpful tip: it's an open-air outlet mall, so visiting on a nice day definitely makes the experience more enjoyable.

Then there was Mervyn's Shopping Center that had stores and such, was a bit more run down and didn't have the sheen of the Plaza. One was a destination spot and the other? Now it's a Condo compound. This reminds me of the center that became a condo compound. I feel that unless you just have to go into a store, there's no reason to come there and hang. It had that look of benign neglect, where the stores are up and functional, but the empty spaces and overall feel there don't inspired a willingness to stop by. This could be because it looks like something out of the 60's or 70's. But I feel like updating the building would just be putting a band-aid over an infected, sepsis causing wound. A covering, but not a cure. This place's age is showing and it needs a major update.

Not only is there the Westlake Market for your weekly groceries, but they also have beauty salons, a number of eateries, *~MANDRO~*, and a bunch more. I believe that Lamppost Pizza, Shanghai Town, and Chuy's Tacqueria are here, so you have a decent selection of places to drop by for a meal. My favorite boba place, Mandro Teahouse, is also here! The other businesses nearby, like Abba Salon and Mattress Express, I don't frequent much nor do most college students, so I can only imagine that mostly locals go there. I also go to Family Dollar quite often for my cheapo college student needs LOL. Still cool to have so much variety in such a small plaza, though :) Really accessible-- there are two bus stops that are on each side of the plaza, one near Family Dollar on Arlington and the other across the parking lot on Lake. I bus or walk here from my apartment from time to time to get groceries or study at Mandro. For the apartments in West, I think this little plaza is super convenient and useful. Every once in a while, they have a small food truck festival in the parking lot that features local eats. I'm not too sure of the exact dates but there is one during Picnic Day which gets pretty popular! It's awesome that they have little things that build and engage the community.

What I really recall is the giant gingerbread people they used to have in their bakery. My parents would never get me one, but every time I saw them the drool was on. They also had quick breads like zucchini bread and the such. I'm a sucker for zucchini breads and other quick breads. I went a few years back ready to get my ginger bread man and some quick bread and to my dismay they don't have any of that anymore. Being an adult now I was so ready to buy all those things my parents wouldn't buy me. Being an adult has those perks. Now the Nut Tree is a place made up of restaurants and some key stone stores such as Ultra and Old Navy. If you hunt around you can find Sees. I really wanted to go to Sees today, but we ran out of time to make the trek over there. We did have time to explore Kirkland. I've never been to a Kirkland before and it turned out to be a real fun store. They had a great deal on diffusers. 1/5 the price of the ones I saw in Fort Bragg. I found one that I LOVED the scent to in Fort Bragg, but couldn't rationalize spending the money on it. I almost got one of the cheaper ones at Kirkland, but resisted as I really didn't need to spend the money today. I need to save up for the Berry Festival in Woodland this weekend and I bought too much stuff in Fort Bragg this weekend. We did go to Fenton's and shared a cone of black cherry and loved every bite the last time we were at the Nut Tree. It's hard to resist a cone from Fenton's when you stop at the Nut Tree. They are located to the right of the big Nut Tree sign and next to the bathrooms that are on the Left. We walk by it all the time as we go to the bathroom for our potty stop. Just thinking about it I'm drooling. We also stopped buy Old Navy. They always have tons of cute tees for $10, which is a good deal in my book for new shits. They had a ton for cute skirts and dresses, but they weren't a style I'd wear so we walked out empty handed. That was our stop in the Nut Tree this time. It's always a solid rest break and potty stop on our way.

Standard WalMart merchandise at their usually lower than grocery store prices. Store is Pretty clean, workers and clientele are friendly and getting in and out of the parking lot is easy.
