I went to Jummah i was greated in the front by Haji Muhammad and his wife. This gentlemen opens the doors to the masjid before Jummah as the masjid is only open on Fridays and Saturdays for zikr. During jummah the mosque is full. The men pray in the front and women towards the back. Jummahs khutbas are very funny, and to the point where anyone can understand. He uses real life examples. There are quite few converts that come to the masjid mostly men. Zikr is amazing, its a full house it consists of meditating, gathering in a circle with soft drums playing and remembering Allah swt. I miss 1) having my car and 2) having a schedule that accommodated me driving to Oakland for jumuah. This is my absolutely favorite mosque mostly because of Imam Yassir Chadly. His khutbahs are ones to listen to: they are meant for anyone and everyone. I always felt connected and able to strengthen my iman while attending service there. Especially as a convert, it was so helpful to have a warm and welcoming community, without barriers between men and women, and the ability to find street parking when I did come. Insha'Allah I'll be able to come back with more frequency! read more

This is an amazing place. Mind you I came from ISBCC Boston so this was a tiny place in comparision, but I have made some great friends here. I believe that our Ummah and the Imam make a masjid truly home. So feel free to come here a couple of times to get this experience. And lo and behold there is parking in the streets nearby and it is safe to leave your car. I go to arabic classes on Saturday afternoon to this masjid. Our Ustad Essa teaches it for free. Jazakum Allah khair. So if your islamic knowledge is shaky come here talk to every one and learn together :) read more

This is my home Masjid and I was blessed to be referred here by my friend Kate. It has been a place of peace, growing and connecting. Shaykh Yassir Chadly and his wife are two of the most kindest, welcoming people I know. The Masjid provides a tranquil and conducive learning atmosphere and Friday Jummah's are stimulating, inspiring as well as enlightening. I look forward to dziker's on Saturday. We make Salah, a short khutbah is given and then dziker. After dziker a community meal is shared-wherein there is much joy, conversation and good food. I always leave feeling wonderful...feeling healed. This Masjid welcomes everyone, no matter what faith, ethnicity, or gender-all are welcomed and valued. Shaykh Yassir always imparts gentleness, humbleness, wisdom and solid Islamic teachings. When my daughters and I walk into the Masjid, we always feel like we are home. read more

Masjid Al Iman is an Islamic oasis. Masjid Al Iman has moved since I originally wrote. The new address is: Masjid al-Iman, 5625 Shattuck Ave., Oakland, California Info: (510) 654-7542 While exploring Islam, our family visited several local Mosques. This is the sole mosque we felt comfortable, welcome, and wanted to return as soon as we could. Sheik Yasir Chadley is a kind and charismatic Iman and has raised this mosque to be a place where "everyone is welcome'. When arriving at the masjid, you are greated with a sign saying you are welcome, and that is the first of many ways I felt embraced by this wonderful place. The masjid is a Sufi Mosque, most are members belonging to the Naqshbandi Sufi sect, but other Sufi groups are represented in the congregation, who incorporate many ethnicities, ages, and socio-economic realities. Greated with hugs and many Salaams the membership of this mosque are real people, kind and open hearted. Women pray in the back, but there is no separate entrance for women or attempts to isolate women from men. Women wore pants and other Amerian style clothing, and it appeared that many of the membership did not wear Islamic clothing other than at mosque. Many women wore loose hijab, showing pieces of hair without concern of condemnation from others. The mosque offers weekly Juma services at 1:30 on Friday's followed by an informal Q&A session with Sheik Yasir. Members and visitors were equally represented in the Q&A session, and I found Sheik Yasir's answers to be thoughtful and intriguing. Sunday Women's Meditation at 3:30 was led by Sister Aisha, another awesome soul. I was pleased to witness a young child crawling around the masjid during services, and seeing her crawl into Sheik Yasir's lap. This child received sweet hugs and kisses from Sheik and was encouraged to sit in his lap while he spoke with our group - wonderful. While not being Muslim, our family was so welcome at this place, and it was encouraging to fail to be judged by my western, non-Islamic ways. read more

This is my masjid so I rate it very high. I think the people are warm, wonderful and a sterling example of what Islam is supposed to be. This masjid is not an ethnic masjid, everyone goes there. Everyone is welcome. The Imam gives good talks that are relevant and he engages the audience with a warm manner and good spirit.. I have made friends here among the women, and I didn't find that to be true anywhere else. I would suggest anyone exploring Islam as an alternate path visit here first. read more

Wonderful Imam here. He's also a musician and a comedian so his khutbahs are funny and always insightful. I feel like a better person when I leave this mosque. It's a welcoming place for new Muslims and non-Muslims. I went here as a non-Muslim for a full year before I converted. The Saturday night dhikr is a great spiritual experience and there's a potluck community meal at the end. The only downside is that parents who come here sometimes let their kids run around screaming during the khutbah or dhikr. There are signs posted on the wall against this, but some parents seem to ignore them. read more

Masjid Al Iman is a warm Islamic mosque, welcoming everybody. All denominations are welcome there not only muslims. On a recent Saturday, the masjid had visitors from the Berkeley Graduate Theological Union and on another Saturday students from a religion class at Santa Clara University came by to witness the religious events. The masjid also collaborates with others masjids around the bay area, therefore the congregation there is very diverse and welcoming of all. This and the moderate form of Islam preached by its religious leaders is the main reason that I am attracted to that mosque. read more

Skip this masjid at the moment for any form of congregational prayer. This masjid has lost its stars. First Imam Yassir Chadly was forced to leave due to the fitna with the masjid. Second black men are treated badly by the persons who maintains the mosque, Haj. The congregation has consequently reduced from 100 to maybe three. read more

This is my favorite mosque in the US. Their motto, "Masjid Al Iman - Everyone is Welcome", is something that can't be denied.

The other reviews were so positive, I felt encouraged to visit this mosque. I am not Muslim, but isn't this a great time to get to know your neighbors who are? I visited another mosque first, but absolutely did not connect. I vowed to try again, and at 5625 Shattuck, I had a much better experience. The room is large and airy, with natural light, a nice podium-place and prayer alcove for the speaker, and lovely Arabic script on the walls. I wish I knew what it said. The service started with musical chanting in Arabic (music always makes it feel like a celebration), and the speaker's sermon in English was storytelling, light-hearted and uplifting, with a dash of humor. His manner was welcoming and warm, and although it was my first time there and only 2nd visit to a mosque, I felt like I was part of a community. The women greeted me sincerely, and have a pleasant little seating area that doesn't feel like the dunce's corner. read more
