MFS is a great place to start if you're new to shooting. My background: I purchased the "Intro to Shooting Handguns & Rifles" Groupon in early 2014. The instructor was really helpful, and the whole experience was a lot of fun. Everyone in my group felt very safe the whole time, which as a first-time shooter was a big deal. I even did the same Groupon again with some family members. I signed up for the MA firearms safety course (required if seeking a license to carry in MA), and again, the experience was great. The course was only a few hours long, and our instructor, Sina, made the class fun, informative, and interactive. When I finally got my license, I bought a membership at MFS without hesitation. What I like: - Professional atmosphere. This is not some sketchy backwoods gun range. As someone new to guns, this place is about the least intimidating range out there. Staff is professional and helpful. - Lots of different handguns and rifles available for free to members (and for a small fee to non-members). I don't know many people who are into guns, so having all of these guns available is really convenient. I wouldn't have the chance to fire such a wide variety of guns otherwise, at least not if I also wanted to pay my mortgage. - Having a retail store down the hall from the range is very convenient. Good selection from what I've seen, although some of the more popular ammunition (.22lr especially in my experience) is sometimes out of stock. See "what I don't like" below. - Good lane availability. I had to wait 10 minutes for a lane on a very busy Saturday, but that has only happened once so far. They have two ranges. On weekends, the smaller range generally seems to be dedicated to the Groupon people. As someone who got introduced to this stuff through Groupon, I can't complain about that, and like I said, there are usually plenty of lanes open. - Free hearing and eye protection, which is great when bringing guests. - Membership isn't required. At $25 per person per hour, you'll definitely want to buy a membership if you plan on shooting there more than a few times a year, but not requiring a membership is convenient for those who want to try out the range first. Members can bring a guest for free. If you plan on bringing a guest with you, a membership is more economical after only 4-5 trips. What I don't like: - This is an indoor, pistol caliber range. Not really a negative, but something to be aware of. As someone just starting out in the world of firearms, I don't have any problem with this limitation, but I could easily imagine a more experienced shooter being frustrated, especially with the caliber restrictions. - Location. Like the indoor/caliber point above, this is just something you have to be aware of when deciding to shoot here. I wish it was more centrally located. Even Framingham would be more convenient, since it's right off the pike. - The retail store, while very convenient, is a bit more expensive than other shops I've been to so far. You're basically paying for the convenience of having a full retail store 50 feet from the range that's open until 10PM most nights. I generally purchase ammunition for my gun from a local store, which has better prices. When I rent guns from MFS though, I buy the ammo from them, because again: convenience. Overall, if the location works for you and/or you're new to shooting, I think MFS is an excellent range. read more

I took the Utah CCW course at MFS and I must say I was impressed. The facility is nicely equipped to deliver training with multiple class rooms and several ranges. My class was full to capacity. The instructor had a commanding knowledge of the subject and firearms in general. His delivery was very good and he answered all our questions in a confident, but not cocky, manner. I am looking forward to legally carrying concealed during my travels this summer. read more

The new firearms school in Holliston is much nicer than the previous location in Framingham. The instructor I had was great and explained everything very well. The first time I took the course in Framingham the shooting session was basically playing duck hunt with a plastic gun but at the new facility there is actual live fire included in the class. Great school to get basic firearm safety training for a firearms permit. Alex, was my instructor, and he was incredibly nice, helpful, and funny. Totally knowledgeable about both the laws and firearms in general. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. The retail store looks nice and has a good range of weapons. The staff were willing to show me every weapon I wanted to see and give some info about it. I look forward to returning when it comes time to buy a firearm. read more

Love this place! Lately, it's become my home away from home. I've been coming here for about a year. I'm a temporary member (Groupon!), but I'll definitely continue my membership when it's up for renewal. All the guys are helpful, friendly, and know their stuff. I go there regularly to shoot. Personally I rather give them the business then the gun parlor any day. And its the only open to the public range near me. not a member of thier club. the ranges are good but a little claustrophobic for someone with broad shoulders like me. Ammunition selection is...meh. Personally I go to Cabela's before i go there because they have a better selection of ammunition. the prices in the store are no higher or no lower than the average cost per caliber a quality of such anywhere else. As for the store its kept neat and tidy, well staffed with knowledgeable personnel ready and willing to help you out with any of your needs. The gun rental selection depends on what you want to rent that day if you want a pistol there's plenty to choose from while rifles are some what limited in selection. But beware some will not work to well but that's because these guns have hundreds of rounds run through them and to clean every single rental gun after its use would be a huge time consuming hassle so it's understandable. I took a 1 on 1 lesson to prepare for the Moon Island live fire test required by Boston and Brookline in order to get your LTC. I worked with Cena (spelling?) on this lesson and he was extremely informative. He knew the specifics of the test and gave me lots of excellent tips and was fully willing to answer all questions and give me plenty of time on the range. I signed up for the course "Mass Basic Firearms Safety Course" and was completely blown away at how fast the 4 hour class went by. Dan was my instructor for the day and he was great. He is a retired Boston police officer and had a lot of short life stories that were engaging and added value to the class. I honestly was very worried about not being able to stay focused during the entire 4 hour class, but he grabbed our attention and made the learning practical and fun. After my great experience with this course I plan to take about 4 more this year in hopes that all the instructors are just as animated as he is. What a great place and experience. Me and my wife had a groupon for the gun experience and it was really a great experience. The staff was really encouraging and courteous. I would highly recommend them for all kind of classes. There were a lot more males then females for gun experience but we did not feel out of place even for a second because of such a friendly staff. Tip: They do not have any place where you can leave the kids so you would need day care service or something so you do not need to worry about kids. I thoroughly enjoyed the Basic Firearms Safety course (the one required to get an FID or LTC). Not only was the class more interesting and enjoyable than I thought it would be, but the atmosphere was very relaxed, and welcoming to beginners. My wife had never even held a gun before, and enjoyed ever second of it. They really cover all the bases. Been here 3 times already. Each time was an excellent experience. I grew up with guns, and used to go to the range with my father, so I'm fairly used to the environment. The facility at MFS is top notch, and the people working there are even better. I've taken my licencing course here, and can tell you that the instructors are very attentive, and have a lot of experience. When you think about having to take a four hour course after a long day of work, you start to regret the decision. But, the time flew by! The instructor was informative, funny, and extremely helpful. After taking an 8 hour gun safety class at another gun school in the Boston area, I was amazed that in this school they can give you a better quality of instruction in 4 hours. Why? Because they have a much modern facility with computers and power point presentations with video and pictures describing what they are teaching you, instead of going back and forth with an old book. The instructors are young, energetic and knowledgeable. The range is heated, modern and spotless. The guns are new, clean and well kept. This was a great experience for a first time fire-arms training class! I wanted to get my girlfriend interested in gun safety, and they actually taught me a thing or two, the staff were ex-military and police with varioius backgrounds, so they brought alot to the table, with no live munition and plenty of hands on practice. I did my ltc training here and have been a member for a few months now. The staff is professional, courteous and knowledgable and the facility clean and accessible. There is a large assortment of long guns and pistols available for free use on the range if one is a member. Never had any hassles taking multiple weapons at once to try out on the range. I took the basic firearms safety course here it was very informative and pretty straightforward the live fire at the end of the class was helpful because you were able to shoot a revolver and a semi automatic. It was a little awkward at first because I shoot left handed but the instructor gave me a few tips and was able to go on without a hitch.
