A recent survey of best hospitals in the WORLD (2025) ranked MGH as number 6. We had nothing but good things to say about our experience at MGH. The professional way of dealing with patients, their logistics and setup, their green spaces to rest and relax, the care, etc....all had been top notch. Their internet portal was also very user friendly. Things could be seen and could be found very easily. Very transparent. It was an excellent experience. read more

A total horror show. One would expect a large volume of people in the ER but within 10 minutes during the check in process, I made my decision to leave immediately The amount of hostility, anger, frustration and utter chaos made my experience far too traumatic. The hoards of people overcrowded in the small waiting rooms along with the shouting and commotion of out of control angry patients was beyond what I had ever witnessed before. One woman shrieked "I wouldn't bring a dog here!" In fact, I had brought my service dog who was waiting in the car in which I had been driven to this ER. My dog gets better care at busy, large metropolitan animal hospitals and is not subjected to or traumatized by utter pandemonium. This was like a living hell. read more

I was a patient of Dr Lindsay Fourman at the metabolic clinic. During my treatment I had multiple problems with the administrator. Just about every lab result was missing from my chart. The front office were incompetent and unhelpful. I made a complaint to the doctor to no avail. The final straw came when the Dr ordered carotid artery ultrasound done in July in December it still had not reached doctor Fourman. This level of neglect could have cost me my life. read more

My brother who is handicapped went to the Landers building 7th floor for a neurosurgical evaluation on friday : i followed the ambulance from Emerson hospital in Concord Ma to MGH. On sunday they refused to let me see him: i have legal guardianship: on monday the nurse Denise Flaherty blackmailed me: stating that only if I allow him to go back to Emerson hospital in Concord MA that Denise Flaherty would allow me to see him and read the neurosurgeon's evaluation. I am horrified that under the Treaty of LaHague both France and US guardianship are recognized . My brother has been kidnapped by MGH neurosciences building 7th floor and they will forbid him to go to France next week where he lives: I am calling DPH, and JCOH then the United Nation for the Sequestration of a French citizen under guardianship. MGH has a 6 billion dollar deficit and yet wants to take on a French Citizen who is free care in the US? I can take him home where he is covered 100 percent. read more

Horrific experience for those living with hEDS & the comorbids. They made my comorbids flare so badly I lost my voice just from the stress. Total nightmare. I just kept asking them to google hEDS inpatient. Took them a week to return me to the condition I entered the ED in. Then they did a dangerous discharge. I got a copy of the referral they sent to the SNF and it was horrific - didn't even list my anaphylactic allergies! The EMTs wheeled me in and wheeled me out. Basically? MGH is a pretty good place to go to die. read more

It is not their fault that this is an overcrowded emergency department. It is their fault that the staff there lie when they tell you how many people are in front of you because the wait line leads first to the screening tests and thrn more waiting and then to x-rays and then more waiting. We have been here for over 8 hours with a patient who is in heart failure. And we are still waiting. The staff there are well aware that they are overstretched and they couldn't care less. If it weren't for some of the Doctors I would've left years ago. Some of the receptionist are unfit to hold their position, you're almost always guaranteed to wait forever to be seen even with an appointment, and if you want copies of your MRI's you have to go into Boston now instead of facilities more convenient to home. My daughter was rushed from another facility with life threatening issues and although she passed, I could not have gone through her last days without the comfort, care and support offered by the nurses (Kylie, tess and more) doctors (smith and the neurosurgical team) and clinical staff (dani). Not only did I feel her care was important to them, but they took the time to put together small gifts for her 2 daughters as a remembrance. Her ekg in a jar, her handprints, bears and heart stones. I was scheduled for a self pay procedure that insurance wouldn't cover. Being low income I sought help through the billing department to see if there was financial assistance available. I found out there was a self pay discount of 25%. at $2400 I could save over $500, But when I got the procedure code from the office and gave it to billing that insisted on it, they said it cost $47,000 but with the 25% discount it would be $25,000+. They sent the bill to my email to pre-pay. I almost had a heart attack and broke down in tears. They were vicious when I called and refused to reconsider there may have beets mistake. I'm canceling the procedure and will never use mass general ever. They are soulless. read more

I've been a patient of Massachusetts General Hospital for 50 years; my family, patients of MGH for three generations, and I've been leaving well-earned, 5-Star reviews on Yelp, for MGH, since 2013. Again, Massachusetts General Hospital, proved to me, what great care they provide, how expert and caring their clinical staff are, and how kind MGH's non-clinical staff are. In my lifetime, I had only one negative encounter at MGH, that one is not worth revisiting. On my most recent admission to the MGH Emergency Department, I received spectacular, caring, expert care from a team comprised of a superb Emergency Medicine Attending Physician, Physician Assistant, Registered Nurses, other clinicians, and ancillary and non-clinical staff. I don't want to go into details, but I was very ill, and I received absolutely spectacular care, as a patient of the MGH Emergency Department. I cannot speak highly enough about the primary members of my Care Team, including EM Attending Physician, Hamid Shokoohi, MD, Physician Assistant Stefanie Freethey, and a Registered Nurse, whose name I wish I remembered. I am blessed to have an absolutely spectacular Primary Care Physician, at MGH, but I don't dare let that rabbit out of the hat. As loyal patients, not a year goes by, that we don't show MGH our gratitude by contributing to the MGH Annual Fund, or to the MGH Departments of Nursing or Emergency Medicine funds. I was reminded on this Emergency Department visit, why it is so important to contribute, annually, to MGH Nursing, and to MGH Emergency Medicine. ADDENDUM: I just discovered an email from MGH that acknowledged my admission to their Emergency Department, soon after my admission to the ED, and encouraged me to log into the MGB Patient Gateway App to see who the members of my Care Team are, and to follow the status of my care, including assessments, lab results, treatments, and other modalities. I was just at the emergency room at Mass. General and came by ambulance. My initial care was better than the outcome. I guess you would call it rapid triage. They gave me fluids that were pumped into me faster than any other experience I have had. This seemed to be more about moving me along there assembly line than urgency to get me hydrated. I then was transported to get a C.T.scan of my abdomen. This was quick and painless. It was the 4-6 hour wait to get results of my tests that was excruciating. I just happened to overhear this wait from another patient sitting in a chair next to me. I guess the truth of the "process"'is not worth mentioning. My care from this point on was what seemed neglectful. I was still dehydrated and weak. Now my symptoms had no abated and I felt weak and forced to sit upright in a chair for maybe up to six hours! I later learned from the Gateway that they were monitoring my diabetes but just got absorbed in "your labs look good" except for creatine. I almost left against medical advice. I was convinced to stay and think it was wise in hindsight. My biggest complaint with the hospital is just that.... how big they are! They are/were(?) the best but good care has been compromised. Hard to say if best can work for all? Room wait time can be up to a day. Comfort forfeited to the demands of people believing they are getting the best care in the city. I can't say I won't go back but certainly knowing that my comfort will be the sacrifice for maybe an outdated perception of what "the best" really means? I have to say that the nursing staff, especially Erin, was outstanding. read more

They call themselves the best hospital on earth but actually their emergency room is THE WORST. The waiting is endless. And it's hard to believe that the doctors who wear a badge saying "Harvard University" just don't know what they are doing at all. I came here because of severe pain in the chest. They checked everything and told me, "You don't have a heart attack, you don't have clots in your lungs, there is no life threatening risk but I just don't know why you have pain in your chest, and here is some Tylenol". I spent the whole night here and they charged me like crazy, but gave me such a ridiculous answer. Later I found out it was just severe reflux and what was needed was only a few Tums. I came here for a real answer, not for Tylenol. Shame on you! read more

what a shit show !!! although they do have some staff that are kind and try hard. most of the doctors here only treat symptoms, never the real problem. My wife's sister is very sick with cancer there. it seems to me they want to jack up bills to insurance Cos. the whole family comes to visit so she does not have to be alone.... we are paying 20.00 a day just to park !!! SHAME ON MGH !! and the food they feed their patients is trash. Really good idea giving Gatorade with dangerous food coloring to people. we had to bring her food because after one bite she spits it out. A thirty+ year patient at MG and Brigham hospital. Greater than fifteen operation and Burn Care patient. Now accordingly with acquisition of smaller regional hospitals such as Salem, MA Hospital, it is exceedingly difficult, to say the least, to acquire an appointment with a specialist of a new discipline. I phoned, passed to three operators before I could be presumably assisted to do so. Was told that in three days I would receive a call-back from the office of one of three back surgeons pursuant to an appointment day and time. Ten days hence no call has come to me. read more

MGH is a "teaching hospital". Please educate yourself on what that means before coming here for treatment. And please understand that MA is a state where doctors & medical students are legally allowed to perform NONCONSENSUAL PELVIC EXAMS on (female) patients who are under anesthesia, for "training" purposes. Look up what this procedure actually entails if you think I am overreacting. As a female patient who has had multiple procedures for my ulcerative colitis where I was under anesthesia, I feel completely violated and disgusted that this particular procedure was very likely done to me without my consent. So, again, as a female patient with chronic illness it's safe to say I would highly recommend against going to this hospital for treatment. PS. I will say it's better than UPMC presbytarian by a mile but that's not saying much. read more

This is a review for the emergency room only, as Stinky has sometimes not had the same 5 star experience in other services of the hospital. Old Stinky P took a nasty spill at a parking garage a few days ago. Transported to the ER by our incredible, professional and dedicated Boston EMS for a large bleeding gash on his forehead. Such great guys in the ambulance took such good care of him. The ER was as usual very busy, but the wonderful, caring and kind care he received there was totally incredible. The nurses, doctors and other staff were so special. They went above and beyond for this decrepit old dude. Stinky gives them a total heartfelt thank you! Stinky got 11 stitches on his forehead and had a Spine and Head CAT scan due to him being wicked old. So yes, was there for almost six hours. But no problem, they were always checking on him and keeping him comfortable. We are so fortunate to have this facility in our city and staffed by such wicked pissah people! read more

The Lawrence, Merrimack Street has no empathy for disabled persons. DR.Sylvan ,this doctor and team gone down hill no empathy or communication for disabled people. Sadly 06/21/25 I became a paraplegic with brain injury. It was very difficult for me to contact and get through to this office. Then 08/13/25 we had virtual exam and went over all medications during I informed him I was almost out of 2 real heavy narcotics. I continue to message almost every other day reminding them today 8/21/25 was the last. They did absolutely nothing for me didn't communicate informing me health insurance would not cover no talks of existing count to begin taper and no talks of alternatives. They left a 52 yo crippled guy to get off 75mg Oxycontin with no taper. And sadly I've been on phone all day and finally got through to a nurse who confirmed she sent order in for a one of my medications #30 coun tof Oxycontin which I choose to pay for, for my well-being so I can probably taper down myself without major complications and when I called my pharmacy they said they never received it. This Hospital especially this team should be reported to DPPC for neglect and sadly lieing.This is such an embarrassment to disabled people. read more

Recently, my husband was a patient at Mass General on the cancer unit Lunder 9 (9th floor Cancer Unit). After a visit at his primary care physician in Worcester, they immediately transported him to Boston as he had lymphoma, a highly malignant tumor of the lymphatic system. At first, I was happy about the transfer, but soon my opinion changed. I have been a registered nurse and have a master of science in nursing education. The experience we had at Mass General was less than optimal. His care was substandard, and there was theft. His watch and wallet went missing. When I reported this to the security department I was met with rudeness, disrespect, and a lack of caring. I'm sure there was no report filed. On my first visit after he was transferred that day when I arrived, he was in excruciating pain he told me. I immediately went to the nurses station and soon after there was a Dilaudid IV drip for his pain medication. I'd hate to think about how long he suffered in pain that wasn't addressed. He was on a cancer unit and pain assessment and treatment of high priority. I was very disappointed when I spoke with the nurse manager and the police about his poorly managed pain and theft. I was met with disrespect and an uncaring attitude. I would not recommend sending your loved one to this hospital. There are facilities they can go to, nearby hospitals, hospice, and you can see them every day without having to deal with the traffic in Boston. Thank you and may God bless you! I went to the MGH ER since the hospital has a great reputation and I thought the staff would be current and competent. Unfortunately, that was not at all the case. Lorenzo Albala was my ER doctor and he completely missed the main reasons I went to the ER. I could tell right away he believed nothing was medically wrong with me and it was all in my head. He didn't listen to me or even look into the symptoms I said I was most concerned with- my vision and a gyn issue. Instead, he made snap judgements based on what he saw - a fat, middle aged, white woman with anxiety and past depression. Instead of listening actively, Lorenzo took some of what I said, twisted it, and branded me with an unsupported mental health diagnosis. Now I have to go through patient advocacy and make a case for having it struck from my record. Lorenzo ignored my request for one specific blood test and ordered unnecessary tests that I already had. The phlebotomist was also disappointing. I told her how I have small veins and showed her the only two veins that I have success with when drawing blood. But she chose to try a vein on my left hand instead, I guess she thinks she knows my body better than me. anyway she could not collect from that vein and busted a blood vessel while trying. Little did I know that busting a blood vessel can cause you to feel faint. Nobody warned me. Nor did they ask if I had breakfast or lunch (nope). Nobody gave me kiosk juice,'crackers or even water,. Driving home I lost Consciousness on the highway and crashed into another car. We all walked away, but had a lot of injuries not to mention losing work and losing money because of us. read more

MGH is great for outpatient treatments however the er and after being admitted is a complete mess. The nurses and doctors don't listen to what you way or want. In someway Huggins hospital is better and that's say a lot. Shoot Daytona beach has better ER's. read more

Came in because my husband needed emergency help. He took a fall after drinking and injured his head ending up with serve body and chest pains. He didn't listen once and they escorted me out into the waiting room so he can get sedated. I told them he is grieving the death of his mother and they did not care! I needed to be by his side! They reminded me that my safety comes first SMH. I calmed him down but then people started coming at him with gloves and he got triggered. I understand their priorities are safety but emotions matter too. Grievance is real and he didn't want to end up in a hospital bed the same day his mom passed away.WOULD YOU???! Not only did that trigger him but me not being there with him also made it worse. The staff were laughing while he was laying there in pain. He didn't get attention until he started to act out where the decided to sedate him. They told me they would come get me once he is calmed down. THEY NEVER DID! Mind you we don't have family here. We got stationed here without anyone we know and it's only my husband and I. WORST HOSPITAL EVER! DO BETTER! I waited 2.5 hours- I ended up going back there myself. All the staff is RUDE. Is it because we are white? And technically my husband is black- he just has white skin tone. Biggest mistake ever is coming to this hospital! read more
