I had a horrible experience with the staff at ER and that oversaw my child afterwards. My experience with Dr. Falsey was just horrible and I felt she was incompetent with a big ego. Doctors were just quick to prescribe medications without understanding medical history, disregarded my concerns as a parent and my child ended up with horrible side effects from the medications that the doctors first disregarded, it took some time before they stopped some of the medications that my child was reacting to. At one point I mentioned that I already used that medication, and the reply is that you need more. I am just disappointed about the overall care. There was only one doctor that came to see my child at night when in distress and showed some compassion to my child in distress. The other doctors just tried to push their approach even my child was in distress from their approach. I felt the quality of doctors are just disappointing and I feel their ego is just unbearable and I just don't know if that comes from being in this institution. read more

Our experience with this institution has been deeply troubling on multiple levels. There were a number of violations of trust and professionalism, beginning with breach of our son's privacy (HIPAA) and a consistent pattern of staff failing to listen or respond to our concerns. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Rather than collaborating with us, the team appeared to operate with their own internal agenda, disregarding what we or our teen actually needed or requested.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Most staff did not introduce themselves, which left us feeling like we were being approached by strangers, not supported by a unified, compassionate care team.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This only intensified our sense of vulnerability and mistrust. Even more frustrating was that the specialist we had originally consulted with--whose guidance was a key reason for choosing this hospital--was too busy lecturing to see our son in person. Despite being scheduled for a five-day comprehensive study, we were unexpectedly discharged after just 26 hours, without the clarity, answers, or thorough evaluation we were promised and had planned for. It felt rushed, dismissive, and unprofessional. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This wasn't our first negative encounter. Years ago, during a separate visit, staff members behaved in a way that felt bullying and intimidating, in full view of our 7-year-old son.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The result was that he left believing he might be taken away from his family. The emotional impact of that moment has stayed with us causing PTSD for that trauma. The attention to detail throughout our experiences has been grossly lacking. Parent accommodations were so uncomfortable they were comparable to sleeping on a sidewalk, and it was clear that parent comfort and inclusion were not a priority. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Our teenager was treated as though his voice didn't matter--dismissed, disregarded, and not involved in his own care decisions.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We came in seeking answers to a specific concern, and that core purpose was completely ignored. To make matters worse, the Family Care Center provided incorrect parking passes, forcing us to pay out of pocket despite submitting a financial need form in advance. It was an unnecessary financial and emotional burden that could easily have been avoided. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I contacted the Patient Care team to raise these serious concerns, I was met with excuses. There was no real accountability, no follow-up, and no indication that any meaningful changes would result from our feedback.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The only "resolution" offered was free parking for our next visit--an empty gesture, since we will never return to Boston Children's Hospital.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] read more

This is a review for the Boston Children's Cafeteria, which is excellent! They have a Subway, a pizza stand, and several hot food options every day. During breakfast time, there's breakfast sandwiches made to order and a decent and affordable buffet (eggs, French toast). One day for lunch I tried their "poke" option which had rice, teriyaki chicken, mangoes, corn, and a yummy sauce, which was surprisingly delicious for cafeteria food. read more

I paid a bill in error due to them having old insurance information on file (which I've updated with them multiple times and it somehow creeps back up!) in addition to my current insurance. They had no record that I paid the bill, and it took numerous phone calls to get the issue resolved. Boston Children's is listed as number 1 but that is based on department performance. Do not take your children to the outpatient psychiatric department unless you have absolutely no choice and be prepared to advocated for your child because they are highly unprofessional and have only one view point, their own. Children are not approached based on individuality but they treat kids across the board with the same mentality. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My child is on prescription drugs and when I asked for better care because the dr was not the right fit i never heard from anyone. It's been weeks. I have not received one phone call back[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I am forced to wean her off the medication by myself. My husband needed an interpreter. An Ella Pagliuca... was called in and she was interpreting incorrect information. She had no clue to any medical terminology to translate. This hospital is only for millionaires. Regular people are not able to afford the cost. My daughter has acne issue on her face and visited a doctor in Boston Children's hospital. It is a regular visit, not emergent. The doctor visit only took about 15 minutes and no lab test was scheduled. However, two weeks later I was astounded by the amount they charge for this visit: $769.97!!! This is almost 2 folds higher than similar doctor visit of other clinics or hospitals based on our prior experience. I called the hospital finance office and reminded them that this is just regular doctor visit and no lab test was conducted. But they told me that this is the basic charge the hospital will collect for each regular visit. $767.97 for a 15 min visit!!! The non medical staff is rude and the medical staff is clueless. It seems that all they know how to do is run test but have no idea how to evaluate or make conclusions on their results. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Everyone has been incredibly kind and wait times are very minimal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Then we had a very negative experience with a post op nurse, Sarah, today.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My son has a history of being quite wild coming out of anesthesia, and did today. She unfortunately was our pacu nurse and was HORRIBLE to him. He was visibly disinhibited and had no idea what he was doing. He was crying loudly. She scolded him many times for this, telling him there were eight other children there and he was bothering all of them. [[HIGHLIGHT]]She mocked him many times, saying things like "[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]yes I know you want your IV out, the entire PACU knows because you keep yelling." Many children have adverse reaction to anesthesia, and I don't know why she is working in PACU with such little tolerance for it. She kept trying to discipline and reason with him, which is ineffective in that situation. I am a nurse, and am so incredibly disappointed of her behavior. I would never talk to my adult patients the way she spoke to my eight year old today. read more

I would like to give the security workers at the front entrance a 0 star review. Today, i had an appointment with radiology. I asked for the directions for the restroom, but the African American security woman told me that there where no restrooms open to the public, I told her I have an appointment, and she told me I needed to check in before using the restroom. After walking over to the check in desk, I asked them if what the security woman said was true, and they said it was not true. This security woman was abusing the little power she was given. She doesn't stop other people walking past her or to the elevators. It's clear she wants to order people around. I needed to use the restroom for the whole duration of the trip to this hospital. Some people have medical conditions and need access to a restroom at all times. In my opinion, it is unacceptable for someone to deny access to the restroom to anyone in a hospital setting. This wasn't my first experience with an unhelpful security worker, but this was my first experience that was harmful. read more

Highly disappointed was just there this past weekend me and my five-year-old were left in the hallway of emergency department for 19 hours. I was told he needed an emergency eye 23 hours after we arrived. They still said there is no MRI available waste of time! We do not normally go here, but I needed a speciality service while I was pregnant. Due to covid, the hospital close to me was no longer offering prenatal echocardiograms. We made the trek into the city for Childrens since they had the Philips Ultrasound machine and were pleased. Parking was fairly easy and we were checked in and given masks upon arrival. This was the only ultrasound during my pregnancy my husband was able to attend, so that was exciting. They had 2 techs doing the work, and since my baby wasn't cooperating they took turns. After 2 hours they got what they needed and I was very happy they were so patient. Great experience overall! read more

I came here to visit my great nephew and support my niece Ivy in her son's surgery. I can see how it remains the number one children's hospital in the country for 9 consecutive years. The place is well thought of from the time you come in with their high alert security and very high tech specialized Identification badge that you also use to operate the elevators. Each area is color coordinated, the path to each senate unit is painted so you follow which elevator you need to take. This makes me think of " following the yellow brick road". Upon entering a unit you again will have to enter through another check. The medical staff also will ask if you need help and are very attentive to who walks in the unit. The rooms are clean and each area has moving carts to assist in any emergency. I enjoy touring this place. The best part is how at home my great nephew and niece are in this place. This certainly are considered home to them. And that alone is a start of healing. read more

Nurses are condescending and treat parents as if they are illiterate. Black and white forms say parents have 24 access to child however nurses do not allow both parents to stay at bedside with child overnight. The nurses forget what you need and do not check in every hour like they should be. Decisions are made without parental knowledge. In my observation staying here I've seen multiple large rodents throughout the hospital. Parents are not treated with equal respect. read more

Great, except for: Dr. Mark Alexander spent 15 minutes at my bedside trying to convince me to go home at the height of a major winter storm last February. The governor repeatedly urged all residents to stay off the roads, yet my Sister and I were insulted with remarks such as "it sounds like you're a little spooked about going home" and "I appreciate your anxiety, BUT...". He insisted that we were safer traveling 90 miles in the blizzard, than staying put at the hospital. He asserted "I'm not going to advocate you stay in the hospital" and "personally if I were you I'd try to get home". Driving in any snow storm with white-out conditions is scary as hell. You can't see the lines on the road, the cars in front of you, or the signs. The car fishtails around corners and slides through intersections. His callousness was heartbreaking. The fact that Boston Children's Hospital allowed him to go room-to-room, convincing patients to travel that day, is disgusting. Those 15 minutes were distressing and won't be forgotten. read more

I wanna be a kid. I don't wanna grow up. I wanna go to Children's Hospital the next time I am sick. My friends tell me I could pass for a kid. Who doesn't like bring colors and fun shiny things. Bling bling bling there are so many cool things to look at on the walls, in the halls, along the windows and don't forget to look up. The holograms, sand tables, and pin wheels are so cool. So getting to it...we went for an appt in Plastic Surgery. My daughter has a mole on the top of her head. A birth mark that use to be flat and plain is now dark and raised. Check in was fast and easy and just as we sat down we were called into the exam room. The exam room had a TV with DVD and VCR in it with kids videos that had been obviously well used. Note to self to donate your videos to hospitals. Shortly after our doctor came in. He didn't feel it was something that had to be removed but worth having it watched. Next we will set up an appt with dermatology. If they feel it should be removed then we will be back but overall we need to keep an eye on it. I kind of wish our pediatrician would have made our first appt with the dermatologist instead of with Plastics but maybe she thought it would be removed. The parking garage was easy to use and find. The hospital sent a packet confirming the appt with instructions and directions. Parking was $6 for an hour and went up from there. It was worth the price rather than circling around for a meter. Inside they had a CVS, Au Bon and other places I'll have to check out when I go back. If you have to be in a hospital with your little ones then this is the place. Kid orientated! read more

I came here recently to visit a friend who was admitted here. What an amazing place! The main entrance is decorated with colorful pillars, a large ball rolling contraption complete with loop d' loops and bells, window paintings, etc. Main lobby area consists of a security desk, CVS, Au Bon Pain, and an extensive seating area. Before being allowed to visit anyone at the hospital, you must check in with security and obtain a visitor badge complete with name, photo, and unit you are cleared for. As a nurse at a small local hospital in a bad section of Fall River, MA, I would love for visitors to be screened before being allowed up in the units. Overall, impressed with this security feature of the hospital. The unit I visited, 8 West, was colorfully decorated and even had a playroom for young children to visit. The staff were very helpful in locating my intended destination. The particular patient room I found myself in was a cozy, private one with a curtain to pull on the window facing the nurses station for privacy. Plenty of seating for visitors, television, vcr/dvd player, etc. Keeping in mind a hospital is usually not the place you want to find yourself in, this room was one I wouldn't mind bunking in for a while. From what I hear Children's is one of the top pediatric hospitals in the country! I would definately look into this place as an employee or patient, whichever the case may be. read more

Our child came in with ear-pain. Dr. Mark Neuman spent a total of ~2 and a half minutes with us across two primary times he came into the room (one to get history and he put in an order for motrin, second he looked into her ears). He prescribed the typical RX for an ear infection. I understand a normal ER charge for ear infection is ~$400 based on BCBS report of charges to expect for various visits (they call ear infection out as its so common). Total billed amount was ~$2,700 ---$902 from the doctor and $1895 by the facility. To date the hospital has not been willing to ask the doctor to review how he billed it, which if they do it I will update the review. read more

Best of the best. BCH saved our son's life. When most institutions would not treat or care for our son (Our son has genetic anomalies that come along with Trisomy 13) Boston Children's did. The old mentality of "Trisomy 13 is incompatible with life" needs to change. It is a lie. Our son with full T13 is now 18 months old. He is able to do so much more than the institution he was born at in NY said he would ever do. He brings our family and so many others such joy and love. Our children have been patients of Dr. Timothy Buie, MD. for many years. Dr. Buie is a very talented pediatric gastroenterologist (and Harvard Med School Professor) and always gives exceptional care to our children. He is always polite, extremely knowledgeable and is always happy to help and answer our questions. Highly recommend and well worth the drive. read more

Insane wait times despite waiting area. I'm absolutely appalled. My wife and I have been here with our 6 year old daughter waiting on 3 stitches for a cut on her face for 5 hours and counting. The hospital is a ghost town based on multiple walKs around the ER space, aside from the DOZENS of nurses sitting around on their phones. Clearly they are super understaffed on the doctor side while wildly overstaffed on the nurse side I get that a 3 stitch cut is not priority but all the more reason to take the 5 minutes to address and free up the bed for someone who needs it more. Meanwhile, we've now had to apply two 30 minute rounds of novacaine to my daughters face (per instruction from the nurses) since the effect of the first round wore off as we wait here. And I say WE had to apply the novocaine because despite a bunch a dozen nurses mulling around they asked my wife and I to continue applying it for them. Absolute joke read more

My son was admitted for emergency services in November of 2021 and thus I received a very large bill. I called 3 times to be set up on a payment plan but my account was set up with two numbers. The office assured me they were taking care of this and would contact me when corrected. While I waited for the correction and to be set up on a payment plan, I continued to make payments. Eventually, I was set up on a payment plan in January. I have paid over the monthly payments. My total bill was $2,017.64 and I now have a balance of $260. The billing office continues to call me and harass me all while I am making my payment plan. They call at least weekly and each time I call back they say they can't explain why I am being harassed. Please stop calling me and go bother someone who isn't current on billing!!!! This is beginning to become harassment. read more

Unfortunately I've had to come here a lot with my son and have had a couple admits. His epilepsy doctor is here, Dr. Harini. It is a big hospital so there can be a wait to get appointments. But I feel that Dr. Harini explains everything well and when I've had issues with getting tests or appointments she wants she has the office help and set things up for me. read more

Sent for evaluation of 5 yr old son who might have ADHD. Seen by neurologist. Spent 15 min with us. Recommended medication. 15 min? Asked about school program, other alternatives, more testing for other issues. Was abrupt, threw a prescription at me and walked out the door. I was in shock, this is a world renowed children hospital. Had a long wait but he was evaluated at MGH. I cannot say enough about them. Not only did he have a learning disability but was on the autism spectrum. Had mutiple therapy recommendations and gave me a signed copy for school. School balked and because of MGH's evaluation the state came and a made them implement the recommendations. You have a children with ADHD, ADD, autism, learning issues....DO NOT GO TO CHILDRENS BOSTON. Wait for the appt and go to MGH. They go 110% for kids with issues. read more

Children's, I love ya but if I never see you again that would be great with me. Just spent a week going in and out of the emergency room 4 times with a two night over night stay with my little girl and I felt I was in good hands the whole time. They tried really hard to find what was wrong, eliminating what they thought it could be methodically. At one point during the stay, a volunteer came to visit and sent me to get something to eat because they know you are not taking care of yourself when you are SO worried about your child.
