ME is an affordable, consistent experience if you are looking for a massage. Across the enterprise, I have had great experiences from the front desk to the massage therapists. The Charlottesville location was no exception. The folks at the front desk were super nice and efficient. Every therapist that came and met their customer was polite and cheery during their greeting. My therapist, Holly, made me feel at ease and was attentive as I described the areas I was experiencing issues. She did a great job of locating the difficult areas and sensing the "depth" of massage I requested and needed. At the end, I felt like all the kinks has been worked out, and that Holly had really paid attention to my responses and sore spots. Again, if you would like more frequent massages that one can afford, this is the place to go. For me, this is comparable to any place I've paid $100. It is not quite as intense as a massage at a chiropractor, but I'm sure ME could deliver a deep tissue Swedish massage with nearly the same effects. read more

Incompetent, unprofessional and uncaring is the best way to describe this place. From therapists who constantly have to reschedule appointments...sometimes with no notice (mind you you will be penalized for such behavior) to a reception desk where everything gets referred to one person...The Manager who never returns phone calls. The experience is hit or miss. Admittedly, at best I have had a decent massage here and decent is me being generous. Tried to do a walk in massage once I saw lots of openings online -when I walked in the font desk said they had availability-but "only for a ninety minute massage"-I asked again for only an hour, to which they responded they could actually do an hour (after saying they only had an hour and a hlf available...) I decided to walk out. I went in today to cancel my membership. The receptionist told me she could not assist me. The only person who could handle this was out due to surgery and she did not know when he would be back. There was no assistant manager or another employee who could handle. This was very disappointing and upsetting that only one person could assist me. read more

Was not using my membership every month so called in JAN to cancel my membership. Was told I would have to pay 2 months fees as my agreement ran until MAR 14th and would have to submit written request. I emailed them on JAN 29th to cancel my membership when it expired. Then they charged me for Apr and May!!! ( I had signed up for auto pmt tru a credit card) When I called to inform them they were still billing me, I was told they had not received a signed letter cancelling my contract . We loved this place until they got a new manager. She absolutely care's NOTHING about customer service. We have been going every 2 weeks for several years now and KD and Jennifer were wonderful. All of a sudden with the new "management" we can't even get appointments anymore. We are so frustrated with trying to deal with the new "manager" that we decided to end our membership. My husband lost his good massage therapist so needed to find a good one in C'ville. Someone recommended Massage Envy to him. So he went to them. The first was fairly good, and the pressure was on to sell him a "membership". So he "bit". BIG MISTAKE!! The next time he went, it was so so, and they slightly short changed him on time. The third time it was only 50 minutes, and the guy spent most of the time yammering on about his troubles and mostly working on one spot, and ignoring the real massage he was paying for! So he has presented them with a letter saying he wanted to cancel and now we're in a fight to get the "membership" removed! We've never had this trouble before with any massage therapist. I went in for MASSAGE and the guy said I ought to get a facial. I didn't want one and said so. The massage itself wasn't bad, but the same receptionist guy pressed me on the way out for a huge tip. I asked you to cancel my membership - which you previously advised could not be done until my one year minimum term occurred. You, however did not cancel the membership and instead continued to bill me. When my credit card expired and you could not bill me for a third month, you froze my account so that I could not use the 2 months' service credit I had previously been billed for and that remained on my account with you. I struggle to even add one star to my review. I truly hope that people read these reviews prior to adding the monthly discounted "hook" that's used for ongoing enrollment. Been a member since 2002 which began in another state then transferred membership to Charlottesville when we moved here in 2015. Initially it was great then became harder to get appts after a few years. When Covid hit wanted to continue supporting local ownership and agreed to $10 a month to keep memberships as both husband and I had 8-10 sessions on the books. Their rules suddenly changed and the regular monthly fee started again. Fees and charges continued to mount and there is no availability to book. Read other reviews and you will see the same story. There have been a few times we call and can get something that day but far and in between. They need to have real-time updates to their app with cancellations and charge the appointment customers that cancel less than 48 hours ahead of time rather than gouging the monthly membership that can't put charges on hold without a fee or cancel without a realistic use of the monthly fees that have been billed. How about convert our fees paid to a gift card that never expires but can be used at Massage Envy? There has to be a better solution. read more

The staff, front desk and therapists are wonderful. The business practices are my frustration. As a member, I paid monthly for a massage. When my credits started to build up quicker than I could schedule a massage, I wanted to freeze my account so I wouldnt keep stacking up credits I couldnt use, mostly because they are booked out 2 months in advance. To be fair, I work, so have to schedule massages around my work schedule, but am generally flexible 4 days a week. Problem is, if your account is frozen, you can not use your credits. So, instead of continuing to throw money out the window, I canceled my membership. I now have about $300 worth of credits I must use in less than 30 days. They have absolutely no appointments for massage for the next 2 months. I have been a member for years, but I must throw in the towel for good this time. Very frustrating. read more

My experience with Massage Envy was very pleasant. The appearance and atmosphere are peaceful. The front desk staff are kind and helpful. Eileen, the massage therapist I had, is magnificent. Her energy is very soothing, her manner very genuine and knowing; and her massage skills are stellar. She has techniques I have never experienced before; and I believe she could heal any malady a body could have. She certainly took care of mine. I would highly recommend Eileen; and I will certainly and happily return to her whenever I need a massage. read more

Rotten, crooked business practices. Although Massage Envy corporate lost a class action lawsuit about denying customers 'banked' services after cancellation of the account or if an account is otherwise frozen, this location continues this practice. They deny service when they already have your money if your account is not 'current.' I called to cancel my membership on 13 April. I was told I would still have to make the April payment because my announcement came within 10 days of my payment due date (the 20th). I didn't like it but I accepted it. They tried to charge an old expired card on the 20th and called to tell me. I called on the 22nd to make that last payment - and was told I now owe the May payment as well. WHAT? I had to have my bank put a block on all future charges from them - and I still don't know if they'll back off. Buyer beware! This is a crooked business. I have 4 hours of unused services - and will never go back near the place. I've been a member at Massage Envy for more than 5 years. In 2017 I got tired of their lack of availability and canceled my membership. Last year I got sucked in again, so I signed up in December of 2018 and I have not been able to schedule massages at all! I am 7 months pregnant, in need of a prenatal massage... I called today (11.22.19) and their first availability is 12.06.2019 at Noon!!! After that, their next availability is on 12.23.2019 ( 1 MONTH AWAY!) Front desk told me that they are not allowed to give the times in which managers are in to discuss the matter. When I asked for the managers, they said they have 3 ( Amber, Precious and someone else) but none of them were there. If you cancel your membership you have 60 days to use your massages. I have 7 1/2 hours accumulated, but if it will take me 1 month to schedule 1 hour, you don't have to be very smart to know that the math doesn't work out. Awful! Do not sign up! read more

I was apprehensive coming here because the reviews were so bad but I was very surprised with the results. It is definitely overpriced but I was more about the convenience than look for the least expensive place. I came in and the person working the front was nice and asked the usual questions. My massage therapist was Kat. She asked me questions and followed through with the attention she gave to my problem areas. Her hands were small and delicate looking but she was so strong!! I've been a member of Massage Envy since 2014. When I moved to Charlottesville a few years ago, my membership transferred. I kept my banked sessions and my monthly fee actually decreased because of the new location. I tried several therapists in Charlottesville. They were all good, but I eventually developed a favorite. I book sessions on the app about two weeks out with the same therapist now and haven't had any issues. I've used my sessions at different locations when I travel, too. I love it and would recommend a membership to others. I was particularly impressed with the COVID-19 precautions when they reopened. read more

This place has the worst customer service. I do not recommend becoming a member if your intentions are relaxation and wellness. Their customer service will leave you frustrated and bewildered. They do not honor their agreements and their commitments unless you prove that it was indicated in some way. You will be told different things by different people most of which have a real attitude problem and then made to feel at fault when their is confusion or you are flat out told incorrectly. I come here regularly, and I have my favorite therapist get the muscles loosened up after a rough weekend driving and standing on concrete. If I could give this place a 0, I would. The woman or lady that answers the phone, doesn't give her name, sounds like a total bitch, and has no customer service skills at all. From reading other reviews it seems that this place is not the quality that one expects from a massage envy franchise. I tried to book an appointment for same day and the women sounded like I couldn't afford to pay the non-member rate or that since I wasn't a member she could give me an attitude over the phone. My cousin gifted me an hour and a half which I did with one therapist and then I scheduled with the same therapist again after I signed up. That therapist ended up being unavailable so they switched me to someone else and I'll tell you it has been nothing short of awesome! Not the worst massage I've had but definitely not the best. The women at the front desk are very nice. The woman who did my massage had the personality of a dead fish. No smiles, no discussion, very blah. I felt like the extra personalization that I added was a rip off. The masseuse did not explain how they were incorporated nor did she even acknowledge that she knew I had gotten them. Yes I could've asked for more info but in my experience at other places the masseuse goes over everything you're getting. The 90 minute massage is also actually only 80 minutes which they don't tell you ahead of time. Every other place I've had a massage, a 90 minute massage is a full 90 minutes of massage. In my case by the time we started and when she ended I really only got 70-75 minutes. She also did not massage my hands or my feet. Like she didn't even touch them. Even though I had checked feet in the areas to focus on. I've never had a massage where they don't massage your hands and feet. Will I be back? No. Would I recommend this place to others? This is definitely situation of you get what you pay for. A discount massage is going to be a discount massage. The two words I would use to describe my session would be inconsistent and aggressive. There was zero consistency from side to side in terms of time and pressure applied to each area. I asked for attention to be paid to my feet and she held them, with no pressure for about 30 seconds and moved on. I had a multiple minute extremely aggressive glute massage on one side, the bed was actually shaking from the amount of force being used. Then quite literally nothing on the left side. Nothing. She seemed to quite tired and possibly I. pain and had to stop to crack her wrists and rest her hands and yawn repeatedly. She left the room immediately and said she would meet with water and did not. All in all, bizarre and I wouldn't return. At least to that therapist. read more

This is the worst place ever. Do not ever join their stupid memberships because you will never be able to cancel or transfer without extreme difficulty. In the beginning they make it seem like you can cancel whenever and everything is great. My fiancée moved overseas and is unable to cancel the damn membership. Absolute worst place ever and mediocre massage to be honest. Avoid this place like the plague. They will just take all your money and give you a hard time. Go to a better place to actually relax. This has induced more stress on my fiancée MS than it helped him relax. Worse service ever! this is one of the worst massages ive ever received. i was supposed to have a sports massage. what i got was more like someone rubbing oil on my body. i did not get any tension spots releived. its a complete waste of time. also, the guy massaged me, and i use massage sarcastically, for an hour and i paid for an hour and a half. i think that that is a really bad business precedent. im never coming back. i have read the other yelpers about the subscription and frankly not surprised to hear that. read more

The receptionist tiawanaa/lakishwa hung up on me. I called at 0800 to request a massage. No one answered or returned my call. I'm not complaining about this because it was early. I called back and the aforementioned hung up on me after our conversation. As I inquired for a massage, she asked what massage therapist I preferred and then corrected herself by saying that she only had males. Informing laskwasha that I was a member, she attempted to sell an hour and half massage. I asked if someone would call me thursday and remind me of my appointment and she confirmed this and abruptly hung up on me! Ok, not going to lie. The front desk here is straight-out incompetent. I had to come here twice because they had scheduled the wrong therapist despite my very explicit instructions. I love the decor and the fireplace. Sooo relaxing! SAKARA is an excellent massage therapist. I don't understand why she works here. She could easily open her place and have enough clients. I can't remember the name of the aesthetician (maybe Barbara?). She was an old lady who is into homeopathy. She was a little too talkative for my taste. But I have to give her the credit she deserves. She did an AMAZING job with the facial. It was one of the best facials of my life. She got rid of all the blackheads in the most gentle way! My friends kept asking me me what I do to keep my skin so healthy and glowing thanks to Barbara. I will definitely go back. Lastly, a message to massage envy: You guys would receive much better reviews if you didn't bully people into getting memberships. I had to sign the form just to get rid of the nagging agent in the front desk. Next day I called and cancelled the membership (You have 3 days to cancel after you sign the form). I am a member here and have only had one massage therapist, so she is the only one I can review. I find Sherry professional and skilled. Contrary to the other reviewers, I have not had any rude treatment by the receptionist staff. There is a dopey beach video running in the lounge area, but I would never base my feelings about getting a massage on the decor. read more
