So I FINALLY use the massage envy gift card I got at Christmas. It was good for one hour and already had the gratuity included (bonus!). I decided on a deep tissue massage vice a Swedish/relaxation massage. The therapist was pretty good, and did well at working the knots out of my muscles and applying some deep pressure. Their idea is to get you hooked with the $39 intro special and have you sign up for a membership, which is $49/month before tax and goes towards a massage. If you've got the disposable income and time and inclination for regular massages then it's probably not a bad deal. Members pay $39/hr where non-members pay $75/hour. So by my rough cipherin' you'd need to go a couple of times a month or more to really see a big advantage. BTW, they say you can roll your monthly massages over if you can't make it in during the month. Bottom line here: If you've got some extra cash it's a good way to treat yourself for a one time good deal. If you're gonna go somewhat regularly then you might want to shell out the extra scratch for the membership and lower rate. read more

She spent majority of the time on my back and barely touched my legs. I understand my upper body had knots but during the 60 mins I wish she would have spent some time on my lower body. I had THE BEST massage at Massage Envy. I was welcomed into the door and given a few papers to fill out since it was my first time. After that, I was taken back by my massage therapist Chad. Chad went over the questionnaire with me and asked if I wanted a full body massage or for him to focus on a specific area. After talking, we decided it was best to focus on a specific area. Throughout the massage, there was plenty of communication. Chad told me at any time to tell him if something hurt, or if I wanted more or less pressure. He also told me what he was finding in my back and explained what he was doing and why he was doing it. I really appreciated this. The conversation was not too much so that I could not relax. I thought it was just right. At the end of the massage, I checked out at the front desk. It seems that this location has gone through some personnel changes because I had a wonderful experience. I have to admit that I'm a massage snob so when I got a gift card to ME I was very skeptical. My preconceived notions were completely wrong. My first phone call to arrival was top notch. I requested a deep tissue because Swedish never seems to be enough. Holy crap I regretted that immediately. Fortunately, my therapist Sid was very understanding and was much more gentle. He was very knowledgeable about areas of stress in my body and had recommendations to help out. He was a little chatty but I realize that I was responding like I wanted conversation. However, this guy needs some trimming tips as he is very unprofessional looking and a bit creepy. He needed a cough drop because he couldn't stop his dry hack. I have had 2 appointments cancelled on me in the last 6 months and it seems to take over a month to get it rescheduled. Very poor service and rude customer service, I went on your website and made and appointment to get a massage. I work 6 days a week from 7-7 on my day off I wanted to get a massage. On Monday I put in my requested massage for Friday and the email stated that someone would call me to confirm. I received no phone call or additional email. On my day off I went to the location. There were 4 girls in the office standing around talking and laughing when I walk in the door. I ask if I could get a massage the girl went to the computer and stated she could make me an appointment for 2 or 3 days. I said that I went to the website and requested and appointment for Friday but heard nothing back. She said "well we have been having issues with the website" (not my problem) I advised that I would be working, she said "well we are opened till 10 pm". I advised I work 12 hours a day and I didn't want to come in after work as I am tired and ready to eat, take a shower and go to bed. She just looked at me like I was out of my mind. I said you can't do it now. She said "No". If she would have been nicer or just stated they already have appointment booked for the day I wouldn't have thought twice about it, but she was very short and seemed cross with me like I did something wrong by walking in the door and disturbing there conversation. The employees at this location are the rudest and most unhelpful people I have ever encountered in a customer service role. My mother had emailed me a gift card which had gotten lost in cyber space somehow. I had called the massage envy in California, where I am from, and from where the card was purchased. They were quite helpful and sent me the card number to use at this location. However, once I arrived the two women behind the counter were very rude and refused to even try to help me access my gift card. I gave them all the information they could have possibly needed to find the gift card, yet they were condescending and arrogant, basically inferring that I stole someone's information. Once outside, my daughter called the Encinitas store, who informed her that going on the website and entering your email, that the gift card could be resent, solving the problem. Not sure how employees of this establishment could not suggest doing just this, nor even trying to find the email themselves. The people in Encinitas took their time, and were very kind going over every detail to help find the gift card. It should not take having to call another state to get the information that is so readily accessible with a push of a button. I guess this is why I have only frequented higher quality spas in the past. When we finally located the gift card, 30 minutes later, we went back in and asked if they could accommodate us and without even looking at the computer said a flat no. I have never been treated so disrespectfully in my entire life. I will be going to another spa here in Oklahoma to use my gift card and can only hope that they have trained their front desk staff to be more guest friendly and learn some proper customer service. Received a gift card, made an appointment. Staff was very friendly and welcoming when I first arrived. My massage tech was Jess. The first thing she told me as we entered the room was that the heater for the bed was broken. She said she'd tried and tried but could not fix it. She hoped i didnt mind. Strike one! She gave me a one hour back, shoulder and neck massage. Good massage but she must have had a cold or allergies because she kept sniffing. At one point, as she was working close to my body, on on my upper back, I kept worrying that something would drip on me. I wanted to tell her to take 2 minutes and go blow her nose. Strike two! 40 minutes into the treatment, she kept yawning and yawning. It was extremely annoying. Strike three! Checking out was extremely awkward. All I wanted to do was pay and leave. But the man checking me out kept pushing and pushing me to purchase a membership. I told him I was not interested, yet he kept asking me why. What was causing me not to commit? Did I not understand what a good deal this was? The questions became personal...what did I do for a living that would prevent me from signing up? On and on. I signed up for a membership when they opened a few years ago. It was great at first. But in the last year, it has gone downhill. It is very difficult to get an appointment even a few weeks out. And now they've called to cancel my appointment several times because the massage therapist changed their work schedule. How about keeping the existing appointments and just scheduling new ones differently? My schedule is crazy, and it is very difficult to work around, so when they cancel on me, it really causes issues.
