I was scheduled for a 60 minute massage today with TJ. However, it was not the FULL 60 min massage. The massage didn't start until 3:08pm & he ended at 3:55pm. I didn't receive an entire full body massage meaning my arms and hands were not massaged. TJ did focus on my shoulders and neck that I requested but wished I was owed the full 60 mins. Recently a new General Manager has decided to make it harder to reserve a session. I have been a member of Massage Envy for 17 years and always recommend to Seniors to make massage a regular part of their routine. But as the rude person said to me when I called to reserve some sessions, "We need to make it fair for other customers". Apparently Massage Envy is more interested in profit than customer loyalty. So if you are looking to reserve a session be prepared for a long wait. They are now taking bookings in April. February & March are full. read more

I'm afraid my wife has been a victim of fraud, and it's a national company with a franchise right here in Scottsdale. Whatever you do (this piece of advice is very serious) do NOT sign anything at Massage Envy at Scottsdale 101. They will charge you monthly no matter whether you are going for appointments or not . . . it's like stealing right out of your bank account, and they have the legal forms all set to back them up on this scheme. We had many, many months of this $65 charge with no way to stop it. The cc company won't stop it, the franchise will lie to you about how you can "come in at your convenience and get the massages" and so on. My wife is in her 70s and wasn't able to go during the pandemic. So, now that it's mostly over, she called to set up an appointment and learned that each and every one of our $65 payments has been tossed aside. She has zero credits, thanks to Massage Envy. The woman who answered my wife's call to talk about this said she'd give us three appointments as a courtesy, and my wife was OK with that. Then the boss got involved and said that the first woman was wrong (just 45 minutes later) - We have nothing now for our hundreds of dollars. I am BEYOND irate with this business!! They just charged me $59 for an UNAUTHORIZED monthly membership. They apparently kept my debit card account number from my last visit and signed me up for their membership WITHOUT my signature or permission. I made it VERY CLEAR at my visit that I did NOT want a membership and that I would come in and sign a contract if I wanted a membership later on. Apparently a manager signed me up WITHOUT A SIGNED CONTRACT (I'm assuming it was probably to meet an a monthly quota....since it happened at the end of June). These sales people are ruthless-- beware!!! I will NEVER visit this place again. Hand and Stone is less than a mile away and there are several options for reasonably priced & resort/luxury massages in this area that practice honest business processes. What a shame. I've been to several Massage Envy locations around town, and I've had pretty good luck with this one compared to the rest... The staff at this location are friendly and professional. They call to confirm your appointment the day before and they are good about recommending therapists to fit your needs. The key with Massage Envy is finding a good therapist, and I've found that over time the therapists at Massage Envy seem to come and go often, so it's always a challenge to find a therapist that you really like. I happen to like very deep massage, and I usually don't have a preference between a male and female therapist... so when i called last week to make an appointment for a very much needed massage, I trusted the front desk person who put me with Tori. And OUCH - Tori delivered a very deep massage. (OUCH in a good way if you know what I mean)! Tori not only gave me a really deep massage and got deep into every area that needed it, but she also stretched me out - like really stretched me out to the point that I felt loose, limber, and and so much more flexible when I walked out. I won't hesitate to go see Tori again... but I'm hoping that all of you reading this don't book up her schedule. I've been here quite a few times, and every time I go I try to remember if I am in Scottsdale or if I somehow teleported to Lazydale, because I get confused.... My main issue is with the front desk staff, who are all typically unprofessional (so busy talking to each other that when you approach it's apparent that you are bothering them) and honestly, a bit pretentious. I once called and asked for a 2 hour massage and requested a masseuse who could do both deep tissue and swedish; I explained that I would like an hour of each. The receptionist told me that they couldn't guarantee this. She said that it was up to the masseuse. And the way she said it... Excuuuuuse me? Are y'all paying me for my massage, or am I paying y'all? Let me know, because my bank account reflects the latter. As for the massages, over the 2 years that I've been in AZ, I've only had alright-to-never again experiences. Sometimes I just feel like it's a waste of money because I usually leave unsatisfied, and with muscles that were only slightly touched, even after specifically informing them of what I wanted. Some of the masseuses talk too much. I'm trying to relax and they want to chit-chat. I'm too polite to say, "shut up," so I try give hints, a la one-word responses before going full ig-mode. The last massage that I had here was on Father's Day. I got 1 1/2 hours of swedish. That day's masseuse seemed annoyed when I asked to use the restroom (which they typically ask me first) before beginning. She actually did a pretty good job on the massage, I just didn't like what I perceived to be an attitude. At least she didn't run her trap during my session. I didn't wait very long, check in was smooth and Jenna was fantastic. I loved how she made sure I was comfortable and took good care of my problem areas. I ended up getting a 3 month membership, I am not fond of the longer terms, especially when things change often for me. But overall great customer service, not overly pushy and still left me comfortable. And massage was, as I stated previously, fantastic. Apparently Jenna is new to that location. Also I loved that they were able to fit me into a spot same day. Just had my massage with Pam she was good front desk is awful my girlfriend got me a gift certificate called to book an appt some guy answered said he had it in the system I then go for my appt tells me it's two weeks out which was booked wrong because that is when I was going out of town then front desk tries to tell me no guy works there and she can't find the gift certificate or however they put it on file . She had paid 60$ but would only honor 55$ which is pathetic and after 10 mins of searching she found it in the system and said the guy must had booked it wrong but I thought there was no guys at the front desk? If I were to rate the Crystal, the massage therapist I've been seeing for several years, I would rate her a 5. However this location since it's changed owners is sub-par. This is the 2nd appointment they've cancelled of mine without bothering to call me. When I get there the excuse I got today is " Im sorry, Im new". No offer to reschedule or anything. My daughter has been using the same therapist and loves her but is also ready to quit Massage envy because they lied to her about The therapists hours. She actually called them on a day where I was with the therapist and they told her she wasn't there that week at all. This location has gone downhill with their terrible customer service. Update. I did get a call from the relatively new assistant manager about 2 hours after this. She was very apologetic and indicated she would address the issue with the lack of call and with the handling by the front desk. She came across as sincere so that was something. That said, she did book an appointment for me for Saturday evening. So I changed my rating from1 to 3 and will update it again assuming we have no more issues. I really like my therapist Crystal. The term, "You get what you pay for" has never been more apropos than at Massage Envy. The unfriendly check-in. The wait time that was auto-deducted from my hour, turning an hour massage into a 43 minute massage. And the shakedown for the gratuity at the end, all combined to make this experience one I WILL NOT repeat. I've been to two locations of M.E. both equally bad. During the massage, the therapist was hawking a 12 month membership plan which I thought was tacky. Try to relax while someone is attempting to sell you a membership...the two are mutually exclusive. My overall conclusion about M.E. is that it's a massage sweatshop for the masses, and will likely appeal to those who have never had a good massage and have no expectations. As a veteran massage aficionado however, I know the difference between a relaxing, therapeutic experience and what this place is selling. The best analogy I can give is the difference between fine dining and fast food. If this place is fast food, its not even up to Taco Bell standards. read more

Other than that, the 2 girls at the front desk were very unfriendly (I don't think either one cracked a smile during the check-in OR check-out process). Love your job much?? My biggest beef was a VERY shady attempt to charge me an extra $34.00 + tip on a gift card I had received & was using. The front desk girl (who had the same blank look on her face the entire time, even when she was trying to converse with me) tried to tell me it was because the gift card reflected the member rate & I wasn't a member. I told her that didn't make sense, it was a GIFT for a 90 minute massage including gratuity. I have been a member of massage envy and a big fan for a few years now, going to locations from Davis CA to Portland ME. I gotta say though, I am officially and thoroughly not impressed with this one. First off, why the hell would you place a massage place directly next to a bar? If you are on the left side of the wall, you better hope you have one hell of a masseuse to make you relax so much that you can ignore the loud pounding bar music that seeps through the wall. You will also be screwed with the front rooms by the entrance, as people stop and chat by the water machine RIGHT outside your door with no concern that you're in there trying to relax! It got so bad during my last massage that I had to ask my masseuse to go tell them to shut up! What takes the cake however is their music. Its AWFUL. They are so inconsistent with types and styles, I've had everything from Beethoven to Enya to this horrific gong-banging BS, sometimes in lineups and sometimes shuffled up, which just makes a lyric less mess of "relaxing" music. Their ambiance is lacking a lot from the other locations that I've seen. Their waiting room is the same you'd see at your dentist. The inside is pretty good though, with simple but classy rooms with not much going on. The staff yo yo's from being awesome to sucky and rude. The masseuses have a wide range as well; I've had good luck and bad. The woman I had last time was... interesting. She was sweet as anything and very accommodating, but as a masseuse she was lackluster. She started out great, but got really boring and simply lazy, and it almost seemed like she was drunk by the end of it. She would toss her lotion bottle on me and the bed like it was no big thing. She bumped the table quite a few times, each time being more harsh and grace-less than the rest. At one point near the end she flat out used me to hold her up as she kicked - KICKED - her stool out of the way putting way too much weight on my should be relaxed shoulder. She skipped from my left shoulder to my right wrist to my left foot, and forgot the rest of my left arm, and I never got my shoulders done. Oy. Though this location lacks for me, every location is different and some are definitely better. You do have to search through to find a therapist you actually like, but it really is a great bang for the buck though all factors considered. read more

David - great therapist - more of a treatment than your regular esthetic massage - but if anything hurts on me...he will smooth it out! I have been a member of Massage Envy for a few years. I have been coming to this location as I had a favorite therapist, she was the best of the best but recently left, sadly to say. My massage of choice is relaxation, so not too difficult. I recently had a massage given by Ashley as the receptionist there suggested her after I described that I wanted and since my favorite was no longer there. When I arrived, there were 3 girls at the front area. One was standing outside near the restaurant next door and 2 were at the front desk. They were all giggling and worried more about their dinner than greeting and dealing with incoming customers. This is the 2nd time I've witnessed less than professionalism taking place upon entering this location. As I sat in the waiting area decompressing from my day, they all 3 sat and talked loudly, giggling and making what it to an inviting relaxing experience, annoying from the get-go! Then one of the stood up and announced she was Ashley, the girl giving me my massage - great!!! Now, keep in mind, I've been going there for years and all the notes on my massage preferences are in writing on my chart that they pick up each and every time a customer comes in. I verbally let her know my preferences, no hot towels, no scalp massage, etc... I just want relaxation, not too much pressure and maybe work a little on any kinks, you know a RELAXING massage. Again, all of this is noted on my chart as well. I sat in the room on the table waiting for 10 minutes before she came back in to start. Probably back upfront chitty chatting with the girls. I had an hour session which comes out to 50 minutes after they do their back and forth talk with you so never really an hour but it was already after 10 minutes plus after the hour and she didn't start on me until 15 minutes after the hour so she started late. This was the worst massage I've ever had. She first took off her shoes and was barefoot and did everything she could to sit on a chair during my session because it was more about her comfort than mine! When she took my arms off the table while I was face down, she pulled on them with force, no a light tug, which is normal but seriously pulled on my arms. Nothing relaxing about that. Her touch was off the mark and there was nothing that felt good about any of her massage techniques. She then pulled out HOT towels to put on my back (hello - I said NO HOT TOWELS). She let those sit for waaaay too long to eat up time. When I flipped over on my back, she then spent a ton of time giving me a scalp massage (WHICH I ALSO SAID I DIDN"T LIKE) and it was more like she was messing up my hair than actually giving me a massage and it didn't feel good at all. Oh, I forgot to mention that for 15 minutes of the massage, there were 2 girls outside in the hall laughing and talking up a storm. Again, this is not what you pay for to listen to people yick-yack while you are getting a massage! The owner really needs to get her employees dialed in here! And yes, it was the employees making the noise, not noise from the bar/restaurant next door which is also a negative factor this this location. Last, she took a towel as I lay on my back, looped it under my neck, held it on both side up in the air and lifted my neck off the table and then jerked it as my neck flopped up and down with only the towel supporting it. This hurt like hell and she said "there, you got a nice stretch there didn't you?" Thank Goodness, this was the end of the worst "massage" I've every had! I put massage in quote as it was nothing like a relaxation massage I or anyone should ever have to pay for. I looked at the clock and I got a whopping 45 minute massage so she short cheated me on time. I was sent a survey from this facility after my appointment and I noted all of the above and yet, never heard from anyone there. I should have been credited my session back for another session. Obviously the Manager must have been one of the girls at the desk that day and didn't want to get into trouble or the owner just doesn't care. This location has gone down hill and is run by school girls with no regard towards their clientele and I will not return here again. Remodel or not, there are too many other locations to go to where the staff and therapists are much more professional and skilled AND who listen to what the customer wants. read more

I have fibromyalgia and a host of aches and pains. It is not easy to know how to massage someone with this condition without causing more pain rather than relief. However, PATRICE knows exactly what she is doing. I go every two weeks for an hour and half and she knows just how to massage me based on how I am doing at the time. She is very knowledgeable and gives a wonderful massage. Every time, I walk out of there with so much pain relieved. PATRICE is so good you don't need to have special circumstances to seek her out, but if you do, I strongly suggest you specifically ask for Patrice. She is excellent and my lifesaver!! read more

Massage Envy is a great place to have an affordable and professional massage. I've had a different masseuse each time and both were great. I've never had a bad experience there and I've left each time feeling much more relaxed and comfortable than when I went in. Sitting at a computer day in and day out can really mess up your back. And that's why I like to visit Massage Envy from time to time to help me counteract the effects from daily 12 hour long computer sessions. They do offer a membership package that looks pretty cool, it's something like unlimited one hour massages for a monthly fee, but I haven't signed up for that yet. While I've had better massages elsewhere, Massage Envy is the perfect place to go for a good massage that won't break the bank. read more

Been getting regular massage for a while and just tried a cranial-sacral to loosen up the muscles in my neck and jaw. Ashleigh works wonders and is very knowledgable on muscle groups and relieving tension. She found a problem with the muscles on one side of my body--something I wasn't even aware of--and recommended some stretches to me after our session. I will definitely be visiting her on a regular basis. I wish this location had more of a tranquility room, but it's a small space and they're working well with what they've got. Massage rooms could be a little warmer in temperature, so ask your therapist to please turn the heat up if you think it's chilly. read more

The two stars are for the front desk only not my massage therapist. He was amazing and always is. If it weren't for Lonnie I would never return to this location and after Saturday's visit, I will not return. Lonnie gets five stars. He is a complete professional and a great therapist. It's very unfortunate that the front desk employees ruin the experience. I walked in on time for my appointment and stood in line for a long time, no one looked up at me at all, how rude! There was one customer in front of me checking out. They didn't check me in until I was officially ten minutes late. This cut my 90 minute massage down to 70 minutes, when you take out the 10 minutes for dressing and talking and then the additional 10 minutes for them being late. My massage therapist was not notified I was there on time, which pissed me off and made me look bad. I don't appreciate that at all when you are racing to get to your appointment in a timely manner and they make you late. It's also hard to relax for a massage when you're upset and you have to explain yourself to the therapist that you weren't late. This is completely unacceptable. Three employees were up front with faces down looking at the computer clearly struggling. One young female was obviously in training because she didn't have any skills and was inappropriate asking people "what would you like to leave for a tip" not IF they would like to leave a "gratuity". The other two guys sitting up there with faces in the computer also ignored me. I've been a member for many years, I believe close to 15, but I will never come back to this location. I will get my massages elsewhere because they clearly don't appreciate my business. I'm actually considering canceling my membership because of this. What is unfortunate is the fact that I live down the street and I thought this was going to be great moving into the neighborhood having a Massage Envy so close, but now I have to drive to the 16th St. and Camelback location where they are friendly and organized to use the rest of my prepaid sessions before I cancel. I wish I could take Lonnie with me. This is not the first time this has happened. Either this location needs new management or they need to stop hiring incompetent people for the front desk. No one ever even asked me how my massage was. You should also know that while you're getting your massage you will hear people yelling at the games on the TVs at the bar next-door and ME employees laughing and messing around in the hallway. I would have expected to get the introductory offer of $55. The therapist was good but Massage Envy did not win my future business since they were not willing to work with me on the massage price since they provided no information on prices if you did not become a member until after the massage was done.
