Massasoit is a great place to take a walk. There are many trails to explore. Very peaceful.

Great camping spot with fire pit and charcoal grill... and campers beach at Middle Pond... we jokingly referred to as "the lake" because it just sounds better :) large rock is swimmable (far but swimmable, and standing depth when you reach it) to "rock climb" out of the water to jump off (it is slippery to start but possible - and fun!) read more

My husband and I went here yesterday with the intention of hiking, but once we arrived, we were met with warning signs of the EEE virus. Even though we had bug spray, I no longer wanted hike here, let alone even step foot outside the car. I ain't trying to die. So instead, we just drove through it. There wasn't much to see driving through so I can't really say if there was anything scenic there since we didn't hike any trails. We did see a playground for kids there that looked pretty cool. If I had kids and if there wasn't a EEE threat, I'd prob bring them there to play. read more

This is a great little spot that I kayak at once in a while. Not a huge area but it's well worth it especially if you want to hike too. I've seen some great birds out here and lots of turtles. There's no rental here though so bring your own kayak/ canoe. I tried to mountain bike the trails here but it was just too difficult for me. I ended up walking my bike out. (Hangs head in shame) It is a great place to walk and take your dog out for a walk too. I don't consider it huge but it's a good walk. Lots of parking although I have had a time or two where I've had to wait for a spot to open up. read more

Hassle free place. We stayed for two weeks starting the week of July 4. It's busier Friday - Sunday but quiet during the week. Site was large. Bathrooms served their purpose but are totally creepy with huge black shutters and tons of cobwebs about. Easy in/out and staff keeps to themselves. read more

They have really cleaned this place up and repaired a lot of the dilapidated facilities that they had. The state actually did something right for once and this place looks absolutely amazing. Plentiful amount of walking trails in a really great place where young kids can play on the playground. read more

I went here a few weeks back with some friends to camp for the night. Would have loved to stay longer, but it was a last minute trip and I had work the next day. The campsites were well maintained and there were restrooms nearby, and we drove by a playground for the children that my nephew would adore. It was relatively easy to find, however I have a horrible sense of direction and managed to get lost coming back from Walmart. I marked the location on gps so it'd be easier to find, however my phone wasn't taking the roads into consideration, and was trying to tell me to park the car and walk like like miles in the dark lol. I've seen too many Criminal Minds episodes, not gonna happen.. Only missing star was around 10, security came by and informed us it was a dry campground, and we had a case of beer with us. We're all well into our adult ages, and weren't being loud or disrespectful, but they still took what was left of the case to "dump it out." $20 says they ended up drinking it.... My friends went fishing and kayaking in the morning, I slept in. Definitely a good time and we'll definitely be back at some point. read more

On a nice day, we love hiking through the woods, exploring the trails that lead to the bluest ponds. A nice place for a nature walk.

Ahhh there's so much to say! Well first off, I LOVE Massasoit State Park. It is a beautiful place to take your dogs, kids, friends, lovers for some nice quality time with nature. There are plenty of trails to explore. There are also a few "beaches" around Lake Rico, which is a beautiful lake located at the beginning of the park that extends back. The beaches are excellent areas for dogs to swim, and I've also seen many people swimming there. I have been in up to my waist with my dog. There is also a long paved road that leads to a trail that you can take, that will eventually bring you to the camp ground which you can cut through to reach the paved road again. The campground has been closed for quite some time, but it is kind of kool to explore. There is a decent amount of parking, and on the weekends and evenings, especially during the summer, you will often see people riding horses, mountain bike riders, people fishing, and families just enjoying their time here. As wonderful as Massasoit is, it pains me to see how much upkeep this place is in need of. So many of the trees are dying, and the trails need constant upkeep (I think many of the awesome people that ride the trails keep up with this)...It would be awesome if this park could get funding, so that the campground could open back up, and so Massasoit could receive the respect it deserves. GREAT PLACE! OH and one warning! People tend to have their dogs off the leashes a lot of the time. A few time, dogs have randomly appeared and have ran up to me and my dog which can be kind of sketchy, and can result in a good, bad, or uneventful situation. Just beware of this because it happens often! read more

Went this past Sunday and had a wonderful experience. It is great for kayaking and canoeing. I would not swim there too mucky. I didn't see anyone swimming there either. While floating on the raft I had views of birds, dragon flies and turtles large and small. Today went for a bike ride. You can follow the main paved path or venture off on bike paths. Very family kid pet friendly. Everyone smiled and said hello. I have a lot more exploring to do. I grabbed one of the free maps they have in a box to plan out my next visit. This is a beautiful park. My friend's dad wanted to see it because he loves camping, so we took a ride down to the park today. Beautiful, well maintained park and the camping facilities just opened again today after a long hiatus. When we got back to the truck after walking around for an hour or two, the running board on one side snapped off my friend's truck. It would have dragged on the ground all the way home. I went to the office at the main gate and a very lovely gentleman named Bob produced a tool kit and helped us get the running board off the truck. If he had not come to the rescue we probably would have had to have the truck towed somewhere. Bob cheerfully crawled under my friend's truck and fixed the problem. "We don't want anybody to have a bad time in the park ... only mishaps!" Thank you so much for help today, Bob. Everyone we met working there was smiling, happy, and eager to help. If you like to camp it's a beautiful place to spend some time. read more

I was excited to camp as I heard the park went through a intensive revamping within the past year or two after a long hiatas. The electrical sure are really nice but no right on top of each other. The regular sites are nice and for the most part spread out but you have to choose your site wisely. I won't be back here again although because they are like gastapo with regulations beyond reason. After dusk they will tell you that you can't even go for walks must stay on your site. The swimming area is very poor. Must stay within swimming area ONLY... No life guard on duty but there are staff posted there to ensure people stay in swimming area nd no dogs. Really weird. Aesthetically pleasing.... But not worth it in my opinion. This place is terrible. Had one of the park rangers freak out on us for having a float in the pond after 3 or 4 of then came down and didnt say a word about it. Said it was going to be posted soon aboit the floatsit but came down really rude with no rules posted or written anywhere. Gave my handicap mother a hard time about parking in handicap without even looking to see if her plaque card was up. Theres no need for the full blown attitude when you dont post any rules. I dont appritiate how we were talked to and i wouldnt recommend this campground to anyone. Not even worth the one star. read more

I really do love Massasoit State Park! I live just a few minutes away so I go their frequently for a walk, hike, or with my dogs. The campground has been closed since 2009, so now it is a day-use area. There is a medium size parking lot that is open dawn to dusk and it is free to park there. On nice weekend days the lot fills and people park on the side of the entrance road. I would say that the park is used primarily by two usergroups: mountain bikers and dog walkers. I also occasionally see parents with young kids bike riding on the paved park road (no cars allowed on it). I would suggest downloading and printing a park map before you go. Although there is a box for park trail maps at the little building next to the parking lot, it is often empty (although I was there Sunday and it was full so I grabbed a map and threw it in my glove box). The trails aren't particularly well marked, except for the Healthy Heart Trail, marked with green hearts. But if you have a trail map and pay attention to where you are going, I would think it would be hard to get lost. There is a great trail that leads you through the woods along Lake Rico to Middle Pond and around Middle Pond. 9 times out of 10 that's the loop I do - probably about 2.5 miles and easy hiking. There is also a cranberry bog right there that you can walk around and check out. I've been fishing at Middle Pond and Big Bearhole Lake and that was fun, too. My husband and I just got two kayaks last month and can't wait to put them in Lake Rico this spring (there is a parking lot on Middleboro Ave a little ways from the main entrance that is specifically for people who want to put a small boat (no motors) like a canoe or kayak in. There was surprisingly little litter. I did see a bunch of full dog poop bags on the sides of trails. Come on, people! If you're going to take the effort to put your dog's poop into a little plastic bag, don't leave it on the side of the trail! They have a large trash barrel that is a solar compactor at the parking lot so that probably helps. Great place to take a walk, go fishing, go boating, or just enjoy the outdoors. This State Park is great for a number of different things. They have a very large popular campground open in season. They have a ton of dirt trails that are great for biking and hiking. There are lakes for kayaking and fishing and there is even a cranberry bog you can meander around. Great in the fall, but I love it here year round. Definitely enough to explore for a full day. Bring lunch! read more

This is a beautiful park with trails for adequate long relaxing strolls. However, if you enjoy water activities then be prepare to come with your own equipment. There are no rentals for kayak or paddle board.My friend and I found this out the hard way. Shame on us for not doing our research. read more

Love it here, my wife and I brought our son and dog. You can walk forever without seeing anyone even though the parking lot is pretty full. Bringing the kayaks this weekend. read more
