Mustard Sensei is considered by some authorities to be the best non-Japanese Aikido practitioner in the World. He has been training for decades and if anyone doubts the power of his technique, he is happy to apply it on you. He has an hilarious sense of humour - I sometimes find it hard to contain myself on his mats. Keep in mind that Aikido is a difficult art to learn. It is not an art that is immediately usable as self-defense - it's more about personal development. But through dedicated practice over the long term, the skills you learn can be effective. I started with Kung Fu and I have gain so much strength and flexibility since then. The practice has been a great complement to my other physical activities such as running, cycling, and yoga. I have recently become hooked on Tai Chi and Qi Gong, the philosophy is deep and the practice is invigorating. Master Yuan really knows how to take your physical capacity to the limit. He teaches in Mandarin so if you can speak or understand Mandarin, it would be advantageous to you but not necessary. The classes/instructions are all translated by his teaching assistant Joyce. It is extremely sweaty and hot in the gym if you don't mind. I went for Monday class, there is not really any structure on the fundamental teaching (although the class description says it is adult fundamental Muay Thai class). The fitness class is good, it is a circuit and plus the heat, you will sweat like a bucket, excellent warm up for the Muay Thai class. I have done Muay Thai before so I know the fundamentals but it might be confusing for someone who has never done it before. The students and the instructors are super nice and friendly. Overall it is very bang for the buck you paid for the groupon. I would go again just because I like the challenges.

Kind of like the best restaurants are the little hole-in-the-wall places with the best food. The Pilates Den is operated by a feisty, triathlete lady, Monika. She is trained to level 3 Pilates, which outclasses my humble Pilates Mat Level 1. Her studio has specialty equipment like the Pilates reformer and the Cadillac, along with the padded mats. There is nowhere to hide in a crowd, like some studios, so you are guaranteed to get the instruction (and results) that you came for. I had the privilege of one-to-one training as well as training with a local group of triathletes. While that workout caught my attention, I also noticed that my right hip (that I had injured in a motorcycle accident) stopped clicking and my lower back stiffness took a holiday. Note: Most of the parking is taken up by the Fitness World, so you are better off parking on the road near the White Spot.
