No matter what I order, they always get it right (and I do make a few substitutions). It's always hot and delicious and comforting. Their Tom Kha Gai soup is incredible. Sooooo good. I love their Chicken Fried Rice and the Chicken Massaman is really flavourful. BUT ... I could lay a bet down, that their Coconut Rice is the BEST in Melbourne. It's beyond delicious. I swear, I could just eat a bowl of that and nothing else and I'd be happy having it as my meal ;-) Thai Village is in a semi busy street (big supermarket across the road that brings in extra traffic), but parking isn't too bad. Either way, only the vegetables were questionable with regards to their freshness. I saw others order a curry dish that was served over a candle light to keep the dish warm. Nice touch. Rice is extra and it was either jasmine rice or coconut rice. Waitress said coconut rice was too oily for her so I picked the jasmine rice. Served in a traditional dish, the rice was very nicely done. Service is OK. The cashier (might be the boss) was constantly talking to the two waitresses In Thai. This isn't the food that you find at the Chinese stall in the food hall, but rather a restaurant owned and run by Chinese, and the worse their English, the more authentic the restaurant tends to be. Okay, it's not Hong Kong, but then again unless you are willing to put aside a week to travel there and back, these restaurants are probably the best that you are going to get. This certainly wasn't a bad restaurant. The staff were ever friendly, and it certainly seems popular, and they also have chop-sticks, which for me is an absolute must when it comes to eating Chinese food. The cool thing about these restaurants is that they have pictures of all the dishes, so you can just flick through the menu and point to the dish you want. However, be careful not to make the mistake that I made and point to the wrong one because you might end up with a meal that you don't particularly like. I changed the order and arranged for a pick up between 7 and 7.30 pm. I then received a message shortly after 7 to inform me that my order had been cancelled. Leaving me no time to arrange an alternative meal. I knew Chinese New Year's would be busy and placed my order several days in advance. This is the service I have received tonight from both China Bar and Uber eats. My guests and I will now be celebrating the New Year with what ever I can find. I am unlikely to find a quality Chinese restaurant that can deliver an authentic Chinese dinner for the celebration. Please keep this story in mind if using Uber Eats or ordering from China Bar. A cancellation with 2 hours notice would be unacceptable but for a cancellation at the exact time of the pick up is both incompetent and totally thoughtless.
