I've never had a bad haircut here--but that's the only positive I can offer. This business has a consistent and frustrating disregard for customers' time. I've scheduled appointments on multiple occasions, only to be left waiting because they can't manage their own schedule. This isn't an isolated issue either; the same problem exists at the Alamo Ranch location. Appointments are not a complicated concept. You publish available times, customers choose one, and the expectation is that the business honors it. Repeatedly failing to do so shows a lack of basic professionalism and respect. If you can't keep appointments, stop pretending you take them seriously. read more

Booked 2 matador haircuts for my son and me both at 3:15pm as a fun father/son experience. We were checked in for 2 guests and weren't offered anything to drink. Other guests got there and they were offered something to drink while we weren't. I was called back but not my son. Other people arrived for 3:30, 3:45, 4:00pm appointments and they were all called back before my son. When they finished my hair it was already 4:00pm and we decided to just cancel my sons appointment. The matador is supposed to come with a "relaxing neck and shoulder massage" which i didn't get even though I was charged the full price for that service. Do not recommend. Service description is not honored. read more

Little pricey, but it was relaxing to get a facial. The only bad thing I could say is while trying to relax getting a trim and facial, they allowed a small child to screech inside. If I'm paying for a premium experience, then I'd like the atmosphere to be the same. But excellent staff and I did enjoy it till then. read more

3 STARS only from my previous review of 5. I am a customer of 3 years as well other friends from Helotes. Today I found that the Captain chairs, very comfortable leather chairs, were replaced with regular and uncomfortable wooden square chairs that you see in other, shall we say, fast buzz-cut barbers. The clientele that comes to this location certainly expects that if you are going to change the furniture it would be to treat your customers with more comfort by replacing them with some newer or better-upgraded chairs. IMO. Not a good business decision that affects the clientele's comfort directly, not a good message for your business model. Warm welcoming is gone along with the usual drink offered. The drinks are there I guess now you must ask for one if not offered. Not a big deal but a nice touch for all to enjoy enjoy especially a nice welcoming smile it. Details that make your business special. Comfortable sitting, warm welcoming, offered drinks, and an elegant setting are a few perks of Matador, the things that make me come back for three years. A cozy place for a good time, conversation, and a good haircut (always). Yes, it is not a place for your regular budget, so the expectancy for Matador is High. Do Not downgrade, UPGRADE! read more

It sucks! I've waited for over 30 minutes before deciding to leave!! A guy walks in , sat down for 5 minutes and his name was called...no one came to me to apologize for the delay nor offer me a drink which was their normal part of their service...why make an appointment when they can't keep their's??? Great people and great hair cuts. They definitely put in the effort to ensure that you're happy with the finished product. I usually get a high fade and it takes 30+ minutes because they are so precise and want to make sure the haircut comes out flawless. ............ WAY TOO MUCH MONEY FOR YOIR SERVICE. The haircut I got, a "FADE", was in fact no fade. I could have given myself the haircut. The overpriced haircut comes with a shampoo and neck trim. If you get the stylist "NICOLI" ask for another one. I revived no fade and indeed they do not know how to do a fabe. This is more like an upgraded Sports slips. This place is super relaxing and welcoming, front desk ladies are very welcoming and kind. Give you a free drink of your choice. Appointment or not you get service pretty quick. My barber was Vanessa today and she is beyond amazing! Super friendly, fun kind and patient. Explained to her what I want in a horrible way cause I didn't know how but she took it and blew my expectations away!! Super awesome. She makes you feel like you've been friends for a long time and takes care of you. Definitely my go to spot for a haircut. So I'm gonna leave my three star review as it is for this update. But... Just barely. Let me explain First time I came.. I asked the lady that took care of me to trim my beard ... straighten up my lines, etc. Bottom line...for $20 I was a tad disappointed. Yes, I conceded in my first review that all Barbers do it differently, and I also conceded that I chose to go in there and pay $20 for a beard trim. The second time, however, Autumn took great care of me. For the same price as I paid the first time...she gave me a very thorough beard trim. The trim included the clippers... shaping with smaller clippers, hot towel, warm shaving cream and shave to clean up my cheeks and neck. Now I ask you... Shouldn't there be some type of standing routine when someone comes in to ask for a beard trim? In my humble opinion... Management needs to make sure that all barbers are doing the same thing for the same amount. The way Autumn did it... It was definitely close to worth $20. read more

When I went for a shave & fade was told it would cost extra because of the type of cut. I said ok, will pay $38 plus $3 for the service plus they explained what came with that service. Unfortunately they did not meet my expectations of what they promised to do. Won't be returning for any services. I suggest everyone find a better barber shop. Not even close to the barber shop feeling. More like a sports clips environment. It seemed more of a in & out fast food type of business. No neck shave, head & neck massage, rinse& style, steam towel for the face or splash aftershave were provided! New management and high turnover is making me never want to return. Been going here for 1.5 years. Recently their long term manager left and since the place hasn't been the same. Moral is low, service isn't the same and the current manager is always on his personal phone. For example, my son and I had an appointment and I called letting him know I would be 10 minutes late and said I'd have to wait another 30-45 min because of that. I've waited for his staff in the past and never have I been treated like that. I won't be returning until they get the shop together. If you do go in ask for Autum she is good. read more

Had a great experience today with the staff here at the Helotes location. First time there and was a bit nervous about having someone new cut my hair, but the staff were very informative, friendly and down to earth. I was helped by Sandra and she did an awesome job with the haircut and beard trim. I felt like she took the time to cut my hair and really get it right rather than go with the cut and "who's next" mentality. I've been coming here for a little over 3 and a half years and I must say that this is hands on down the best barber experience you can ever get. Coming in your always greeted with a smile and offered a drink, beer, wine, or water. The ONLY 2 guys I'll ever get my haircut with is Daren and Geronimo. Daren has been doing my hair for years but G-MO has recently been killing it with my hair, they're both great I can never decide who I want to go with every time I come by. Daren offers hot towel services and washes/ styles your hair for you just Incase you're in a rush on a date. Both guys are always great to talk to and just recently when I got a haircut with Daren, he made a few mistakes but then told me to come in the next day and fixed it free of charge. So naturally i'm super picky! i had the same stylist from 11 to 22 and struggled for years and years to find my new spot. Nell has been doing my hair for a year now and she's literally the best! She always makes sure i look good and my hair and beard are on point! It took me 6 months before i let her touch my beard because of previous negative experiences at other spots but now she's my only girl....I'll admit i cheated on her ONCE but i regretted it instantly and it'll never happen again!
