When we tried to get a table at Blackfin Pub earlier in the week they were fully booked and…read morereferred us to their sister restaurant Dockside. This turned out to be by far the better option. We had a really good experience at Dockside and thought that since they were both owned by the same company that we would also have a wonderful time at Blackfin. What a disappointment our time at Blackfin turned out to be. We did manage to get a table on the patio and it was lovely looking out at the harbour. The service was decent but not as good as the service the evening that we dined at Dockside. It was very busy and our server did try her best. We ordered a bottle of wine and started our meal with a shared appetizer of brie with blackberries, peaches, ginger maple and citrus compote. It was supposed to come with Rosemary flatbread but it seemed to come with small pieces of pita bread with no rosemary. It was also the smallest piece of brie that we've ever been presented with. We probably should have sent it back but we could not find our server. There was only about l oz. or 30gr. of cheese. We each only got 2 very small bites from this $18.00 appetizer. For entrees my husband had Szechuan salmon and I had the steak and prawns. I tried a bite and it did not taste very good at all. My husband did not enjoy his salmon and thought maybe it was because of the seasoning but it definitely was not a good dish. My steak and prawns had overcooked prawns and one of the toughest steaks that I've had. It was very disappointing. When my husband commented to our server that the food was very disappointing she provided us with a complimentary dessert. We chose key lime pie and it was decent. I would not recommend Blackfin Pub. Go to Dockside instead. The view is the same, service is better and the food is significantly better.

The Timber Room - K said that the chowder was not quite as good as Earls, which has excellent chowder, so a good compliment. The Caesar salad was a starter

Yeah maybe it is starting to show a little age in the furniture, and the tables, but our experience…read moreearlier today was excellent. We had great service, quick friendly and informative. Our server was young, but you could tell she knew her stuff. She kept our water glasses full along with all the other guests. The menu is pretty vast, without being too big. Plenty to choose from with a great sounding special and soup of the day. There really is something to please everyone. Our drinks were cold, and to food we ordered was great. The lovely K got the clam chowder and a starter Caesar salad. Both were very good with the starter salad being larger than most large salads we get. I had the Mediterranean falafel and the soup of the day which was split pea with ham. Both were excellent. The Stella I ordered was a full pint, not something I see every day, they are typically 500 mls. All in all we thought it was outstanding, and will most definitely be back!

We grabbed a seat by the window on a cloudy day, but still enjoyed a lovely view. Really, though, anywhere you sit is great - the cozy decor makes every spot feel welcoming and comfortable.

Four star pub food and great atmosphere thanks to the Sunday Night Acoustic Jam . . . …read more Finally, a nice alternative when staying at The Kingfisher Resort down the way. The place was rocking with the Jam underway when we came in. We stuck out - as everyone else appeared local and knowing of each other - but they made us feel welcome, and the servers were super-friendly. We shared Seafood Mushroom Caps ($11) - an old school favourite, and they were plump with fake crab and shrimp in a herb-garlic creamy breadcrumb filling. More on the seafood, than bread, which was good. There was so much melted mozzarella on top; each bite was addictive. I enjoyed the AAA 6oz sirloin steak dinner ($16) immensely, it was way beyond the average pub steak, cooked as ordered and plated with care with delicious, perfectly cooked fresh vegetables and roasted potatoes. The $1.50 extra for sautéed mushrooms was such a small portion they didn't really add to the meal. My partner's expectations were exceeded with the Fanny Bay Oyster Po Boy ($15) on ciabatta. There was no skimping on the portions - it was overflowing fresh cooked panko-crusted oysters with greens and tartar sauce. Chocolate Ganache Pie ($7.00) was a rich, silky chocolate and peanut butter fix for dessert. All in all, the menu has typical BC pub food, like burgers, fish, pizza, sandwiches, appys, etc., however from what we had the kitchen is really putting care and heart into the dishes. The Jam was good music, great atmosphere. I understand there is a new menu since my October visit . . . Worth a try!

In the end it was a different waitress that gave us our food. And when the bill came there was no discount as an acknowledgement of our poor experience. It will be a long time before we go back.
