This…read moreyear our club is trying to add value to West End Park by planting trees that are native or food baring. About a year ago, the park lost one of its oldest and largest trees -- a big Sycamore. The stump stood as a big reminder of its loss. The City is planning to grind out the stump. Meredith Tree Service and Brad Sells & Bark Studio worked together to preserve a large part of that stump, so the West End community can make art out of the wood. The Food Forest Friends think that old tree shows a lot of the West End Community's history in its rings. Working with Meredith Tree Service was so easy and he was so gracious. The whole fence row, trees and all, were thrown in my yard and that of my neighbor's. Livestock ran and were misplaced! It was no small disaster. I felt devastated! Thank God, Jeff Mainer was sent to me that very next morning. He has a Tree Service in Cookeville. I was in awe of how quickly and effectively he and his crew could completely, clear the devastation that my property had become! Compassion, one does not expect to see. At one point, I had opened my back door, to view the progress. In front of me, sat a broken lawn chair with my favorite little birdhouse perched on the seat! One of these men was kind enough to salvage this for me. A lovely surprise in all this sadness. I was brought to tears, not so much by its recovery, but by the fact that one of these men was compassionate enough to collect it, and set it gently aside. Another of these kind men, dug down in the rubble of wood, nails and debris of a demolished shed, to collect my late husbands favorite tool box. They were all so very kind and caring. One never expects this in the distruction. So God bless you Jeff and your wonderful crew of men, Mark, Ryan and Steven! Each of you are to be admired and appreciated. They were personable, polite and did exactly what they committed to in a timely period. On a very difficult slope in my back yard, they hauled in gravel, build a gorgeous retaining wall and planted numerous azaleas, hydrangeas, rhodedendrons, and evergreen ground cover. In the front yard they removed a 12-15 year old holly tree and replanted azaelas in its place, I would highly recommend them and will use them again.
