I purchased a Sealy Crown Jewel mattress from Paul, at The Mattress Place for $1400 and had it…read moredelivered on 11/23/21. I had a friend meet the delivery driver since I couldn't get home to meet them and Paul knew this. The Sealy mattress bed killed my back and there was an indention where I slept. I contacted Paul, the owner on 1/12/22 - 50 days after getting the mattress. He said I could exchange only. When I arrived, I looked around and asked him if there was anything better under $1700 and he said "No." Since we had a mutual friend, he offered to refund 70% of my purchase price. I wasn't too thrilled but because of our mutual friend, I didn't want to ruffle feathers and accepted the offer. I just wanted a mattress that helped my back. We were talking and I made the comment "Sealy is crap and I won't buy another one." Which he later used against me saying I was making rude comments attacking his store" I'm an effort to make get out of working with me. I went to another furniture store as bought an Englander that was $200 more - the mattress I should have bought in the first place. (Never again will I feel obligated because of a mutual friend.) When the new mattress was delivered 2- 3 days later, they leaned the Sealy against the wall. The underside was stained and faded. The delivery guy said it looked like it may have been sitting in a warehouse or somewhere getting wet for some time, which was very evident by looking at the color variations/ fading. Perplexed, I looked at my box springs and around the area and nothing else was stained or had gotten wet. There's no odor and there's no damage other than the bottom side. I texted Paul and sent pics and asked if we could renegotiate the 70% refund because it looked like the mattress had previous damage. The stains and fading was just on the bottom of the mattress. I hadn't spilled anything and I ALWAYS use a mattress cover on my mattresses. He said "It came in a bag from the factory, I can't take your damaged mattress - try Craigslist." I thought he was joking. I called him when I freed up at work and he was defensive immediately - accusing me of damaging the mattress and attacking his store. I was in awe at how he turned so fast - attacking me and I was still being nice. I asked him to just come over and look at the stains and the area. There was NO WAY this damage happened from sleeping on the mattress. I'm a mature single woman - trust me... there's no wild parties going on in my bedroom and I'm potty trained so where the heck could it have come?? The mattress still has the tags on it- it was delivered to The Mattress Place in May 2021. I tried to explain that my friend must not have checked the mattress when it was delivered, he said I should have been smarter. I finally had enough and said some choice words of my own and hung up. I just wanted him to make it right - I would have even met him in the middle, although it wasn't fair at all. I have no doubt Paul knew what he was doing. He probably didn't like the fact that I price shopped - The same mattress was available at other stores for $200 less so he matched their price. I do just fine financially and I don't need to deceive or steal from people to make it through life. Next time, I'll make sure I'm present to inspect everything I purchase - even if we have mutual friends and I should be able to trust that person. Update: Paul saw my review and reached out. He said he didn't want to "profit" from this sale so he was sending me a check overnight certified mail. He refused to tell me how much, nor did he send a check. He can keep it - Karma will get him.
