I've also experienced firsthand how her program works in the after affects of the program, it is an amazing program for kids who are behind in their academics, as well as kids, who are accelerated in their academics. I have to honestly say I wasn't a fan of homeschooling until I met and witnessed with my own eyes how smart the kids were, who came from her home school program. She has a nine-year-old daughter who is currently enrolled in a charter school for the first time and she's in the sixth grade. She also has a six-year-old son who is currently still being homeschooled and he's testing at a third grade level. Needless to say I have started my three-year-old granddaughter in her program and she's only been there a month and she's already writing her name and identifying words. I have no doubt in my mind that she will be reading shortly. If your children are falling behind in their academics, or you would like them to increase their learning abilities, I highly recommend contacting Miss Alan, at teach them how to learn

Today I came in to pick up my packages after getting an email they were in ( I am a mailbox holder) and the clerk who was assisting me was giving me packages with my box number on them and someone else's name. I pointed this out and said they needed to be more careful. I asked if Nora was in, he said she was not. I figured as much as Nora is a treasure and keeps everything in working order there. He finally searches and brings me my packages ( who had other Box numbers listed on the store label). There was one missing. I said to this clerk, I need to be picky this one is kinda pricey...He finds the package and then comes to me and says loudly and in a lecture voice " You need to not come here until we get an email out to you." I said well you did email me, how was I supposed to know you did not log this one in? I said please calm down, then he tells me to calm down and starts laughing and making fun of me! I told him he should think twice about doing that to me again. He then continues on to stand there and laugh and make fun of me in front of the entire store and laughed loudly at me. I could hear him mock me the entire time I walked out of the store. Wow. I can tell you right now if Nora were there this never would have happened. I have already called corporate, but I think that it is important the public knows that with this employee when the cat is away, the mouse comes out to play. You can be a paying mailbox holder here and risk being bullied, mocked, jeered at, and laughed at by this employee-- and have the privilege to pay for it. He also wears no nametag and says they do not give out their names. It is really a shame as everyone else who works there is top notch.

She is very hands-on and patient with her students, but she does expect for students to learn her techniques and be open to building on them. I have had the pleasure of receiving her instruction since April and she has even taken time to help me with my personal, non-class related sewing projects. I recommend her class to anyone who has little to no sewing experience. Even if you sewed years ago and want to sharpen your skills, Cherice is for you!

From the owner: For over 20 years, Making It SewFun has been a creative education hub on Chicago's South Side,…read morewhere students walk in with zero sewing experience and walk out with skills they carry for life. We built our own trademarked curriculum, You Can Make It, around a simple conviction: quality sewing education should be accessible, hands-on, and taught with genuine expertise and care — and that's exactly what we've created here. Our seven-level program takes you from your very first stitch through advanced construction, with tissue fitting woven in at every stage — because the most valuable skill we teach isn't following a pattern, it's learning to adapt one to your own body. That's the difference between owning a skill and just completing a project. We teach both adults and youth. Our youth program runs as after-school during the school year (September–May), and a Saturday summer sewing camp for kids looking to keep building skills outside the school year. What sets our studio apart isn't just curriculum, it's culture. Students learn alongside instructors who've spent years mastering this craft, and alongside each other — sharing struggles, celebrating breakthroughs, and building genuine friendships around a shared interest. Many of our students started as strangers and became each other's biggest supporters. Visit makingitsewfun.com to explore our full program lineup and register for a class.
