I had a poor experience with MyGuru for LSAT tutoring and law school admissions prep. For 6 weeks, I met with a tutor twice a week for 90 minutes. I would do practice test sections assigned to me and we would review them in our sessions. Because I was planning on applying for the Fall of '25, I wanted to get a 10 point LSAT bump from my original diagnostic score in a matter of 10 weeks. I did not put enough time in studying to get such a large increase, but nor I find the tutoring particularly helpful. In addition, I paid an exorbitant sum for law school admissions counseling. When the tutoring wasn't going in the direction I had been hoping, I cancelled the tutoring and the admissions counseling, deciding to wait for the next admissions cycle to apply. MyGuru would only refund me 50% of their admissions counseling fee, despite meeting with me only once about admissions. When I asked them for a refund based on the work they put in, they said: if they calculated that, it would be likely be a greater cost. I accepted the 50% refund and asked them for a deliverable of the work they had done. They gave me an excel document in which they took notes from our admissions meeting and had collected admission information from law school websites. There was nothing new or helpful about this information, and I suspect it took him less than an hour to copy and paste it from the law school admissions websites. Yet, MyGuru was comfortable charging me thousands of dollars for it. read more

It's really a great resource to help you prepare for testing. I was prepping for the GRE, and did not know what would be the best way to start. I did switch tutors, since the initial meeting didn't provide the best results for me, but I ended working with Stefan. He's really great at breaking down the strategies and tips to help you solve questions faster and more accurately. There will be questions that you won't know or will take too long to complete in time, but if you can get your options down to 2 options. I'll take a 50/50 chance of getting it right over 1 in 5. UPDATE: Almost finished with my first semester of law school. Man that was rough.. (rougher than LSAT study in terms of content overload but not as rough as the LSAT in terms of analysis & logical reasoning.) Bottom line- a high LSAT score will save you a lot in law school. Working full-time & taking classes is not a piece of cake, and after having to miss a few classes due to work, I needed some help catching up. Me being myself ("why put off until tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow?"), I needed that help ASAP. With the words of my high school counselor ringing in my head "Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part", I reached out to a few tutors/tutoring agencies. Fortunately for me, Mark, the owner of MyGuru, did not share my counselor's philosophy--he got back to me very quickly & sent out an "urgent" message to a number of the tutors on hand. I realized how much more efficient this was than me emailing the handful of random tutors I had found through my school, online, referrals, etc. While at first it was looking bleak to find someone with the appropriate background & availability (which was, basically, immediately/less than 24 hours) he emailed additional tutors he had on staff and was able to find someone who met my subject material and timing needs. The tutor he set me up with, Tracy, worked out really well. I not only understood the material better following her help, but possibly more importantly, I felt much more confident in the material & extrapolating it/building off that knowledge. I found the pricing very fair--they charge you a specific fee based on an hourly rate, & if you go over you pay more, if you go under you pay less. I was skeptical of that last part, but sure enough less time was required than anticipated and I was credited, no issue/reminder needed. I was signed up to take a Kaplan course for GMAT prep and was talking to a co-worker about it when they told me their story. They took one of the same Kaplan courses I was signed up to take and didn't get their desired GMAT score. I had a great experience with My Guru's GRE test prep and highly recommend! After taking a practice GRE on my own, it was obvious that I needed to seriously improve my quantitative skills if I ever hoped to get into a competitive grad program. After reading not so great things about other GRE test prep providers on Yelp, My Guru quickly became my number one choice for test prep. i liked that My Guru tailored tutoring to fit my needs. I pre-tested strongly in verbal reasoning, and didn't need to focus too much on this area, but other test-prep providers would have made me sit through (and pay for!) tutoring in both verbal and quantitative sections even though my clear weakness was in one subject. Being able to focus on making gains specifically on the math section proved invaluable to me. My Guru's rates are reasonable compared to others, and I was paired up with an excellent tutor, Mike Z. Mike was a breeze to work with and never made me feel judged or silly when I struggled. Math has always been a trouble subject for me, so to say that I had a lot of anxiety about facing the subject head on would be an understatement. Through my tutoring sessions with Mike I was able to re-learn algebra and geometry, face my fear of math, and learn test- anxiety coping skills to help me stay focused while taking the GRE. As a result, I was able to bring up my quantitative reasoning score 5 points (hooray!) and I owe it all to Mike's tutoring skills! In the end, My Guru was worth every penny spent! Because I am applying to business Ph.D. programs, I needed to score well on the GRE. In particular, I had concerns about getting up to speed on the quantitative elements of the exam since it had been decades since I took a math course. I am in an accelerated MBA program that did a horrible job explaining accounting (just not enough time and way way too much material but great instructor). For the final, we had to do a very detailed dissection of a very meaty annual report. I thought I was going to die cuase I was not prepared. MyGuru came to the rescue at the 11th hour. I decided to go back to school to obtain my bachelor's degree for accounting. Since I know myself all too well, I decided to attend University of Phoenix online. Although I enjoy going to school online, in an accelerated program, with limited ways to ask questions, Accounting can be a tough subject to learn. That's where MyGuru helped me. I worked with John Easter to prepare for the GMAT. We spent three months meeting on a weekly basis for 2 hour long private tutoring sessions. He designed a preparation strategy, taught me the methods and strategies for the test, and reviewed diagnostic exams with me. I came into the process with a goal of scoring at least a 700. My first practice test score was a 650, and my score on the exam was a 750. I only sat for the exam once, and relieved to not have to worry about it again. Working with John was invaluable. The area in which I needed the most improvement was the quantitative section, and he clearly explained the concepts and applications of them for the GMAT. I would recommend working with John for anybody who wants to achieve their potential on the GMAT. MyGuru is an excellent test prep service. I contacted Mark, desperately in need of a tutor and was paired with John Easter. John and I met twice a week over the course of a month and a half in order to prepare me for the GRE Quantitative Reasoning section. John was absolutely wonderful. I am terrible at math and was very discouraged in my ability to get an acceptable score on the GRE Quant section. I took a practice test on my own prior to getting in touch with MyGuru and scored in the bottom 3rd percentile. I was at a point where I thought I wouldn't be able to go to graduate school and obtain my dream job. I sent a very desperate message to MyGuru, stating my situation and Mark paired me with a tutor immediately and provided encouragement. This was a great service that got me ready for the GRE. Prior to signing up I did not have a good direction and was not utilizing time wisely when studying for the GRE. Several people I talked to had used Kaplan Test Prep and were not happy with their results. Luckily I came across MyGuru which was less expensive and had good reviews on Yelp. I worked with Mike who laid out a plan of how to prepare for it within 7 weeks. He went over all of the concepts, strategies to score better in my weak areas, and gave me homework assignments. For questions that I could not answer he showed me strategies to eliminate answers to give me a better chance to make an educated guess. Beyond doing all of that he had me take practice tests to see where my scores where. Each improved throughout the 7 weeks. Tutoring companies are a dime a dozen now, but there can only be one "best"...and that would be MyGuru, LLC! They have the BEST tutors, which is what makes them particularly special. Having been to almost every other tutoring center in my town (C2, Kumon, Club Z, Oxford, Eye Level, etc) only MyGuru offered the professionalism and personalized 1-on-1 tutoring that I truly needed. My most recent experience was by far the most valuable. I had to learn how to become a biostatistician in no time. The owner, Mark, set me up with an incredible tutor who is about to earn his PhD in Biostats and who seamlessly tutored me online in SPSS (the software I had to learn) and how to use it for all my necessary applications. I'm thrilled to say that thanks to that, my abstract was accepted by ISHLT (clinical conference) and my study submitted to the top journal in the field (pending acceptance). This would never have been possible, especially in that shortened timetable, had it not been for MyGuru and their incredible tutors. I can't recommend them highly enough.
