My daughter wanted enrichment or topics outside of what was being covered in school. Deb introduced her to Spanish, division, and multiplication. My son needed help with ELA and she worked through spelling, organizing thoughts, and adding details. We ultimately stopped because the spring schedule is busy but plan on resuming in the fall again. My daughter attended the SAT Prep class at $60/hr. We over the phone set up the schedule and it would be weekly at same time. We signed a contract as you would afterall they are taking their time to meet you every week and pay upfront. However the first session we arrived they didnt know we were were to be there and the tutor (owner) wasnt there and never put us on schedule according to receptionist. That was not all almost every single time after there was an "issue" tutor (owner) didn't show or was in car wreck or had to go out of town. Always something yet why tell us thats who we would have. We choose her for a reason as she was the Math pro. They were very unorganized and when I called her on it she was apologetic but blamed the staff. She was a FLAKE! She even asked my daughter if she had been there before after already having two sessions with her. It just seemed like they are in it for the money not the help. She promised practice SAT tests too but never did those. My daughter got a lower score on SAT after her class too so it wasn't beneficial at all. He plays club hockey which is a lot of fun, and joined a fraternity -- the frats are fun and low key, not the toxic male environment as it can be at some schools. The campus is beautiful. Equally as nice as most small liberal arts colleges. The dorms are no worse than at most schools. I think most important of all, it's really a positive and supportive environment, academically intense but not competitive in an unhealthy way. If you're considering schools like Bucknell or Lehigh or Lafayette, DEFINITELY consider F&M. (And they gave us some generous financial merit aid compared to Bucknell!)

They offer private tutoring (1:1 or in a group setting, I always do 1:1) as well as review sessions for most major classes. They tend to have reviews be most popular for classes that are higher level and more advanced than the classes that LionTutors offers, which is nice for upperclassmen. The 1:1 tutoring is more pricey but really, really helpful in understanding the material better. I honestly don't know what I would have done without the tutoring for certain classes - it's amazing how much 1:1 tutoring helps especially when your class has 300+ people in it. As much as I love Penn State, the chemistry department is definitely one of their downfalls and PSU Know How saved me from doing horribly or even having to retake these hard classes. Just be advised - it's not a cop out from having to actually learn and put in effort! I think the people that succeed the most are those who go to class, do their homework, but really just want that extra help to actually understand the material more. Once you do that, you are way more well prepared to answer exam questions and apply the material you have been learning.
