Try saying that ten times fast! I've volunteered at FLOC for several years, tutoring junior and senior high school students in Math and English. The time commitment involved has been minimal: 3 hrs a week, one night a week during the school year. It has been a fun and rewarding experience for me, helping teens and pre-teens to improve their basic reading and math skills. FLOC is always looking for volunteer tutors. Tutors work one-on-one with students on either Math or English. If you are interested then consider contacting them. Training is provided. FLOC is currently located in Columbia Heights at 1763 Columbia Road, which is about halfway between Columbia Heights on the Green/Yellow lines and Woodley Park/National Zoo on the Red line. The phone number has not changed. More information about FLOC can be found at their web site http://www.flocdc.org/ FLOC also operates an outdoor education center, located near Harpers Ferry, West Virgina.

Since it had been sometime that I had last graduated, I was looking for some real guidance in helping me prepare for the exam. After my usual exhaustive search online, I came upon Griffon Prep and decided to give them a shot. I went to the first session with Jeff and was immediately sold on this place. Both Jeff and Bernie are awesome people and great teachers. I had a good learning experience with them. I did end up with a much better score than what I had anticipated and cannot thank Bernie enough for her coaching. I did get accepted to a couple of good schools on my list!! I would recommend Griffon to anyone who is looking for test prep - great location, good fees, and awesome instructors!

They legitimately care about the success of their students. Indeed, even after law school, I have stayed in touch with them. Their teaching methodology is wonderful, very hands on, and kept me thoroughly engaged. As an experiential learner, this worked really well for me. I also would like to highlight that I took multiple courses with Griffon Prep and each time, I loved the other teachers as well as the other students. I think it is a testament to Bernie and Jeff that they cultivate such a collaborative and positive learning environment. Also, for those who care only for results, my LSAT score went up double digits (I also took their GRÉ course and also improved significantly).

After only a short period of tutoring (via Skype!!!) there was a marked turn around in our son's math performance. His final AND final grade jumped two marks. That's right... Two grades!!!! The coordinator was great completing an assessment of his levels of performance, reviewed plans from his teacher and identified someone suitable to his personality. I never expected such progress within that window of time. The price is more than reasonable based on what you receive... A continuous communication loop, top notch tutors, online reports, progress monitoring and current technology. Although we elected the Skype sessions based on our schedules, in-person is available. I forgot to mention group sessions online where you can get homework assistance on any subject matter. They also proof papers. One stop shopping in the comfort of your home. If you need a service and can carve out the resources for A+... Do it! Will we use them again? Yes, yes and yes! I always use yelp for things I'm searching for but have never written a review. A+ was that important.

Keeping track of homework can be difficult especially with multiple higher level classes and extracurricular activities. The A+ Club's approach to studying habits and learning is very unique and goes past just basic organization and habit breaking. Mr. Bromley will even talk about different ways of learning and he's very experienced with what he does. Overall, their services are great, work well, and come at reasonable costs. One of the most important things about this service compared to others is the more personal approach, they are always more than happy to work with you and help you get to your goals. Thank you for everything!

The world of daycares is daunting, Phase provided a bright light at the end of my search…read more Having a child during a pandemic and finally deciding to send her to a daycare meant that I had to be sure she would be safe, that Covid protocols would be in place and that the staff would be considerate as she integrated outside our bubble. Phase is one of the few daycares that offers: Part time full day program Meals included (with no additional cost) And a dedicated outdoor playground. The price point is also great in comparison to other competitors in the area. The Capital Turnaround building itself is gorgeous, the classrooms are spacious. There is also a STEM/Digital playroom and a soft play room with part of a trolley and pneumatic tubes and balls inside the building. There is a dedicated parking lot across the street and there is usually a spot out front. Beginning Oct. 1st they will be open until 5:30pm which will be great!!! The teachers and administration are loving, caring and the children know all the teachers and greet them all. The food looks delicious and there is a wide variety of menu items which I appreciate because introducing new foods can be quite a struggle, as all parents know. I've sent my daughter with "nice clothes" and even jewelry and everything is always returned home. Ml So now for the cons, as mentioned by the previous poster, there are some communication issues, let me clarify. The communication issues, have ranged from not being notified that my child needed more diapers until the morning of school, not getting update/activity pictures until the end of the day (a working parent's tragedy) and not receiving accurate eating updates. All of which I attribute to the staff being too preoccupied with attending and caring for the children to update the app and that is understandable. None of the communication issues were detrimental or health or safety related. The administration was also apologetic and proactive about implementing better communication once the issues were raised. As a new business that is really all I ask for and all I think any reasonable person can ask for. My daughter's speech delay has improved and if she is having a bad morning mentioning her teacher's names and the administration staff's names gets her motivated quickly. Ultimately every child is different as is every family, but I am thankful that we found such a wonderful school, with a beautiful facility and loving and caring staff. The food for the children is well prepared, tasty and nutritious! I loved my job!!
