Established in 2012.

Mathnasium is a math learning center franchise with over 600 locations nationally and several internationally since 2003. Owner Joel Tillman became a franchisee with Mathnasium in 2012 and opened Mathnasium of Okemos on June 18, 2012.

Meet the Business Owner: Joel T.

I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University and my Master of Arts degree in Teaching from Trinity International University. I have taught in both traditional and alternative education classrooms in Illinois (before moving to Michigan) and around the greater Lansing area. As a high school math teacher, I worked with many students who had gaps in their foundational math skills that made it difficult to learn the material they were expected to learn. This caused a lot of frustration, stress and tears. I decided to open a Mathnasium center to help alleviate the pain and frustration kids were feeling with math by filling in their foundational gaps and helping them gain a better understanding of math; and that is exactly what we do!
