Among all the restaurants in the "mini mall", Gypsy's Lair Art Cafe stands out because of its unique architectural design; the artsy and bright decor is inviting and interesting. :) The cafe is a bit off from the main road in Puerto Princesa. So, it is quite far from the other well-known restaurants. But, it is worth going to. Once you enter the place, you'll see many quirky artworks all over the walls, stairs...everywhere! Although my friend and I only stayed for dinner and a few drinks, this would be a good place to chill out either alone or with friends. The food did not disappointment. They have a variety of food to choose from. So, we asked the waiter for his recommendations. We tried their best-seller, the Ribs, which were very tender and the serving was enough for 2 people. Other dishes we tried were the Chicken Burrito (served fresh with salsa verde), Pin-Thai (the pinoy version of Pad Thai) and Tom Yum Soup (just the right amount of spicyness and sweetness, I finished that all by myself). That's it. - Herbs - you get a sprig or two of basil and interestingly, the bean sprouts are thin style. - Beef with noodles (#6) (75 PHP) - I added extra noodles (25 PHP) which turned out to be a good call. There's not much beef and the slices are overcooked. The noodles had a decent bite to them; I didn't love or hate them. The broth was sweet with hints of lemongrass but the depth was lacking. It is a small romantic place with incredible ambiance (simple yet elegant) and fresh Italian food! We had bruschetta, three types of homemade pasta (penne, spaghetti arribiata, and carbonara) and each was excellent and filling in its own right. This plus their red house wine and very quaint environment made for a very nice evening. To top things off the owner provided a complimentary limoncello. You must try this place!
