The location at Matosinhos has waves that are optimal for new beginners and for those that already know how to stand, but want to advance. I've taken a few surfing classes around the world and Joao was definitely the best instructor that I've had. As a beginner, he was able to teach me how to start turning which no one has ever been able to do. You can take the 500 Yellow bus from the city center and the class also includes photos as well. Thanks to Fish Surf School so much for a fun, safe, affordable, and memorable experience!

I tried to explain this to the people at the Porto Virgin but I don't really speak Portuguese and the English of the people on reception wasn't great either, but eventually everybody understood each other and they were delighted to welcome us into their gym, free of charge. They gave us a tour and couldn't have been more helpful. The gym itself was large and well air conditioned, and had plenty of equipment in the weights areas. My only criticism would be that it had no free standing squat rack.

The help are often rude and inappropriate, and the help act as if they own you and that they are superior to you. Frankly, they think that they are your bosses, and that you are low class help. There are a very few exceptions to the rule. Also, at times people move their bowels in the steam room, pool and Turkish bath in the poorly supervised spa and pool área in Oporto. Generally speaking, despite the pleasant facilities in both clubs, I think the clubs are undesirable and the contracts are really difficult to break. If you do join, be sure you join by the month. Beware of high pressure sales ploys as well. I think you could do better than Virgin Active!

I'm not afraid of heights per se, but am not super interested in seeking them out LOL We got to the stand for my friends to buy their tickets and the guide they were going with was very funny/nice. As he went through all the info about the ease of the climb, I was sold and decided to join in! The climb itself is steep but it is just steps that you slowly walk up in a line, on which you are all tethered together. We were with a group of all ages, so I think this would be classified as a very easy climb for all, if anyone is worried about that. We had been walking around Porto all day so my legs weren't at their best during this climb, but the guide was very patient and didn't get annoyed at my slowness or stops to catch my leg composure as we walked up. Once we were at the top, we got to take photos and the guide had some celebratory chocolates that everyone got to enjoy. At the top, you have a very nice view of the whole river, but on our climb day it had been foggy so we didn't have much visibility too far out to the views. It was still a good experience and I would definitely recommend it, especially on a more clear day!

Vieguini was offered up as a great place to start, and I'm glad it was the one I chose. The workers were extremely patient and kind with me, especially translating everything into accessible English. The prices were really reasonable and you can start low and they just charge you more if you bike more. They also give you a map and great suggestions on routes. I loved it so much I came back the next day to rent a bike again.
