This is pictures of me, opening the BASE SET sword and shield ETB realizing it was completely fake resealed the Poké balls on the outside packaging scratch off light chalk. The cards inside were fake as well. All QR codes were fake as well. They don't scan they take you to a random website that has nothing to do with Pokemon Called. The owner told me to come by today by 11 o'clock or he wouldn't be around. I couldn't make it there I decided to open the box when I got home from work and realizing every piece of content inside that ETB was fake. This was supposed to be collectors item. I was told it was fake by a buddy that's been doing this for 20 years. So I decided to open it and see for myself ( ITS FAKE ) Cards are backwards the packs and everything I bought this 2 DAYS AGO from there shelf , they said they purchased all these ETB's in a huge collection by some dude that's been doing this for many years obviously not THERE FAKE this shop has no Value . This is not a good look on a card shop to sell someone new fake pokemon Elite trainer box's. I will never buy from this place again. read more

A locally owned and operated game shop in Redding! We stumbled upon this place while eating Lao food in the same plaza. They have a huge variety of board games, card games, puzzles, and more! I don't think I have ever seen more versions of Monopoly in my life. The staff here are friendly and it seems that they have a lot of regular customers who shop here. I went in yesterday and the guys working there were extremely helpful and listened to all my questions and answered them all. I am new to the MTG world and they are a fountain of information so I had a lot of questions on what to buy and how to get started. Drew, the owner, was extremely nice and professional and above all friendly. I ended up getting setup with what I needed to get started and I have to say that their prices are extremely fair and every bit as competitive as Amazon or any other online store. I thought they might be a lot more expensive but this was not the case at all. It was a great experience overall and I will be going to this store for everything gaming in the future. This place is a gem. I finally was able to visit after hearing good things and even my good expectations were blown away. Being a long time D&D player, this place had an ENTIRE wall lined with all of the books and had way more than I could have hoped: dice, maps, third party adventures, etc. It was glorious. Redding's best games and hobbies shop. My husband mostly grew up here in Redding and he was surprised by the store! Matrix takes over 3 whole store fronts: one store for board games, one for painting and putting together figures?, and one for hosting tournaments. The board games store offers a decent selection of board games. I wish they had more to choose from but what they have will do. What's cool about this store is that the entire back wall contains several long tables that people can sit at and at board games! There are several sample board games that people can look at and actually okay with as well! Didn't get a chance to look at the second store (middle store) as well but it looked cool from the outside. I'm guessing that the third store is actually where they get most their business from. They have a JAM PACKED calendar of tournaments. Every Tuesday they host a $10 Magic draft and every Friday they host a $15 Magic draft. The draft is pretty organized... My one complaint is that the Magic tournament rounds are so slow! They are strict with their 50-minute rounds; even if all players are finished, the clock continues to run and they do not move on to the next round. Same issue with the deck-building phase. Everyone had completed drafting and deck-building but the maximum amount of time was still in effect. The draft will only fire if 8 players show up so plan accordingly and perhaps bring a commander, standard, or modern magic deck for while you wait. Prize structure varies depending on the number of people participating in the draft. Yesterday, 16 people drafted for Tuesday's $10 draft and only first 2 places earn prizes and 3 random people get store credit. Also, it doesn't seem fair that players can be match up against players from another draft pod. Sometimes groups of 8 open packs of disparate power levels. The store also offers a wide variety of deck boxes, card sleeves, and play mats. read more

Negatives: -The pricing is 20-60% over what you'll find on the big mtg websites. -The woman running the store answers questions in the briefest way, giving a sense that I was annoying her. -I stopped by on a release Saturday and no tournament until 5p no promotional pricing. I feel like I'm spoiled coming from Chico and playing back when Prices were better and prizes were bigger. I really like Allen. He is knowledgeable and friendly. Always enthusiastic to speak with fellow gamers of any kind. Also takes an interest in his regular customers. My biggest complaint t is that they keep canceling their FNM legacy format nights. The last 3 months it has been canceled for some reason. The first 2 tim3s was just that Terri didn't feel like running it. The most recent is someone wasn't feeling good. Even though there are at least 4 employees that can cover it. I only play legacy cause standard format, and drafts are so expensive and limited in play. And I have a large collection spanning a couple decades. And I can only play legacy format ls in competitive play. Most players just don't have the money for modern or standard play. I just wish that they would be more helpful to those of us that enjoy legacy formats in some competitive style format. It's getting harder and harder to find ways to play in our area like this. With them being the foremost in mtg, pokemon, etc.. games for this style of play. Also being the only major LGS in our area. read more

I recently came home to Redding from Los Angeles amidst all of this Covid-19 panic. I came into Matrix to get a few games to play while I'm unemployed and discovered a goldmine! I met Alan on my first trip to Matrix and he suggested a few games for me a my girlfriend to play...we have had SOOO much fun with those games. He was very knowledgeable and even knew off the top of his head what the highest rated games were for several different categories (kids, teens, couples experienced and non-experiences etc.) We went back a second time to look at a few more games and get some more recommendations for our next purchase. This place is so unfriendly. Having moved here from Chico, where the game community is friendly and inclusive, my husband and I have been shocked at how unwelcoming Matrix is. You can sit in this shop for hours and no one will speak to you or will turn you down if you ask to play games. They have a MTG draft every Friday, supposedly, but I've only seen it happen once because they can't seem to get enough people to want to come play. I'm not surprised. This location is fantastic! The owners wear their love of board games on their sleeve. The selection is excellent and the prices match those online! I asked for a game that I couldn't find and they pointed me in the direction. They then looked it up online and gave me a discount to match what they found. Also we were on a road trip from San Diego, CA to Bremerton, WA and they gave us a free little board game for our kids they could use in the car. Forget Disneyland; this place just might be the happiest place on earth. As the proud parent of a D&D-playing middle-school girl, I was incredibly impressed by the upbeat, friendly, attentive, and cheerful atmosphere of this store. Most folks were masked (because pandemic), which was also heartening to see in our anti-mask area of the state. We were greeted by one of the staff, who (and this is incredibly important to me) treated my daughter like anyone interested in D&D and board games and didn't talk down to her about her interests. Girl-friendly and positive! He also suggested a website where we could read board game reviews prior to purchasing so we could make informed decisions. Regular customers who came in while we were browsing were greeted by name and chatted up by the staff. Seriously one of the happiest, friendliest, most professional environments I have been in for quite awhile, and a great antidote to the realities of the pandemic and the local fires. The staff here is always friendly and willing to chat about the latest games. They will get you something even if they don't have it in stock and get pretty close to the online super stores. Usually the extra few bucks are worth supporting a local business! First off I think they should change their name to "Matrix Games Hobbies & Cards" because they focus on the products in that order, so if you're going for a board game or the miniatures games then yeah they have what you're looking for but if you're a card person like me you'll be quite disappointed, first off they have no Pokémon cards even though we were told by the owner that they did, second their selection of cards is quite low the "magic the gathering" selection was equivalent to Walmart's and all the other cards selections were lower than Walmart's so I left quite let down. However I will say that the owner is a very friendly guy and everyone in the game café' seemed to be having a fun time, though the one card gamer I saw in there looked a bit put off for some reason. And the last thing I'll say is that I'm happy there is a shop like this in Redding at all, but if the card room was fixed I'd give a shining 5 star review. read more
