Ahh. what a lovely restaurant inside the hotel. Our dinner was okay, nothing spectacular for the price. we were in the main dining all with a lot of American tourists so it was quite loud. We ordered omakase special dinner, 7 course and it was €135. Normally in America, the 7 course means 7 pieces of fish. However, it is like a 7 course meal so be prepared to eat if you're doing their omakase. Service is excellent, our waiter had great recommendations for us for wine that would pair well with each of our dish. recommend if you're in Munich and staying nearby the mandarin orientational. I've been to many Nobu and Matsuhisa locations across the world - full disclaimer: I would not day they are my favorites but I think they typically do a decent job. Nevertheless the location inside the Mandarin Oriental in Munich disappoints - I still gave three stars because the food was good but the service was lacking. I ordered a bottle of rose - it wasn't cold at all, it was actually warm when they served it. When I mentioned it to the server he said: oh you'll have to wait for it to cool on ice? Overall, the service was really slow - we had to remind them several times for our dessert. On the good side: the food was comparable to other locations, the spinach salad was really yummy and the rolls were decent. Would I go again? Not sure... they need to up their service and then I would consider going. read more

Located inside the Mandarin Oriental Munich, Matsuhisa is a high-end sushi chain recognized around the world. Nobu, perhaps the world's most famous high-end sushi chain, falls under the same family of restaurants, all started by sushi chef Nobu Matsuhisa, himself. While the original Matsuhisa/Nobu restaurant is located in my home city of Los Angeles, I have only been to a Nobu restaurant a couple of times, and have never been to his first restaurant Matsuhisa Beverly Hills. An opportunity to eat at a Matsuhisa was something I was pretty excited about. Our decision to eat here was very last minute. We arrived on a Saturday for lunch right when they opened without reservations and had no problems getting a table. In fact, there were only a few other diners there during our visit. Note that the sushi bar is closed during lunch in preparation for dinner, so a table is your only option. Overall, I thought the service, decor, and ambiance were nice, but the sushi wasn't quite up to my admittedly high standards. To eat, I ordered tuna, mackerel, seabass, chu-toro, a couple tuna rolls, and more. The fish was certainly fresh, but the flavor was lacking, and the nigiri rice was subpar. The tuna rolls were probably the highlight. Having been to many Michelin star sushi restaurants in both Japan and Los Angeles, my expectations were probably too high, so take my review with a grain of salt. This was also one of only two sushi restaurants I've been to in Europe, so I'm not really sure what the competition is like. Based on my other experience, I wouldn't be too surprised if this was one of the best in Munich. It is worth checking out. read more

I am a huge lover of Matsuhisa. I've been to many different locations around the world! But I was surprised because I didn't expect the one in Munich to be below Matsuhisa standards. I went to the Munich Sushi Club which just opened this year, and included a shorter menu of the restaurant. I did not like it in many ways. 1) the famous yellowtail jalapeno was not the same one they usually serve at the restaurant. 2) the rolls were falling apart and the rice was all over the place 3) the famous black cod was way overcooked and was half the portion it usually is. I rarely ever go to restaurants in big hotels as they don't often live up to their expectations and so, I went in expecting very low value for money and this place delivered it :-) I had to think carefully about my rating and, for what you pay here, you can do way better in Munich. Located in the Mandarin Oriental hotel this restaurant has been here since 2016. It was busy when we arrived and the noise level was quite high. To top it off the music was relatively loud which made conversation very hard. If I am at an expensive restaurant I expect more. The service started off well but it degraded for the rest of the evening and all of us were constantly on the look out for our waiter. He was a nice guy but just not around to top up wine or water. The food here is good and I liked some of it very much and others were average. It's a Japanese menu with South American twist. The salads were the most disappointing as they were full of leaves and nice dressing but the rest was sparse. The lobster salad for €36 has just about half a lobster tail in it and a pile of leaves on top. Each of the dishes were small and I cannot imagine how they expect to share this at the table. I loved the crispy rice with avocado, mushroom hot pot and the matcha ice cream. The rest was average and I had had better Japanese dishes in this town in other places. The wine list is big but way overpriced. I selected the cheapest wine on the menu just to test and it turned out, we picked a fantastic German red wine and ended up ordering two bottles of it :-) the Italian and French wines on the list were ridiculously over priced and not worth the money. I would not come back here again. There are fantastic Japanese restaurants in Munich and when I compare this to something like Werneckhof which also serves Japanese inspired dishes, it's no comparison and I could probably get an amazing meal for the same money. I have never hesitated to pay for good food but this one was way over the top for what you get served. It's a very frugal kitchen with not even a small thing for amouse bouche or nothing. Came here for lunch in between my connecting flights. The lobby of the mandarin oriental is upscale but simple and plain. I Expected more. The restaurant is upstairs above the lobby and you ascend a staircase. I was the first seating and was pleased they addressed me by name therefore they were expecting me. I had a choice of where to sit since I was the first and only diner there. The food as always doesn't disappoint. I eat at every nobu or matsuhisa in every town I visit. Service was impeccable and overly attentive. I expect nothing less especially for a 120 euro two hour lunch break for one person. I have to come back when in Munich! read more

This is a Nobu restaurant on the second floor of the Mandarin oriental. The price for their signature 6 course Omakase is 95 euro pp and the local omakase is 125 euro. Even for Munich, I think the prices are set quite high. The portions for the dishes are large so I think next time we will just order a la carte, like what most people did around us. I also didn't love everything in the omakase. The steak was very chewy and the dressing they used for the tuna salad was way too salty. Their sushi rice had good flavor, but pressed too tightly together. The cod was definitely delicious and very buttery. I saw people ordering this fried tofu dish that looked tasty. read more

really Nobu level: in quality and price as a party of four we afford us a remarkable dinner in the Mandarin Oriental. The restaurant is on the first floor, a little bit confusing with the crowd of the cocktail bar and of the conference rooms. As a "must" and "Vorspiel" we savoured the black cod (24€) and seafood ceviche (20€). For the 2nd course recommendable and affordable is pork-belly (19€). All those fares were delicious and perfect. Main course spicy prawns 37€ and ribeye from a robata grill (45€). The cuisine's concept is "sharing", but the individual dishes are tiny. The wine list is impressive and expensive, even for Munich practice. The location is rather loud because guests and servants are not remarkable restrained. read more

I feel that a Nobu omakase review is mute. It was, of course, a 5-Star experience. Everything was so fresh and on-point. The service was excellent as well-- not a beat was missed.
