The owners have seemingly 'ransacked the universe' to put together a sweet collection of new, old and reworked items. It's one of my favourite places to gift shop and occasionally pick up things for myself. My boyfriend hasn't taken off his up-cycled plaid handkerchief scarf since I gifted it to him for x-mas. Most of the things sold at Ransack are made by local artisans but there's quite a few solid vintage finds(old posters, records and some furnishings) as well. Very happily there are no old fur coats or stuffed dead animals at all to ruin my vintage shopping experience or create that narsty smell you find at some vintage stores (I'm looking at you Kensington market). This store is strictly awesome. You really need to discover this place for yourself though. There are so many things to regardez-vous I find myself circling the shop several times taking it all in before I can decide what I can't leave without.

This store is quite something to walk into. Almost a shock to the senses to see so many shiny…read morethings in one small space, but definitely an experience. If one walks very carefully, one foot in front of the other, there's enough room to walk maybe ten feet into the store before you hit a wall of chandeliers. Almost every inch of visible space is crammed full. There are chandeliers hanging overhead, so packed in that it's hard in many cases to tell where one ends and another begins. There are pieces of chain, electrical cord, crystal, and light fixtures covering the counters and floor. But I suppose that means there's a lot to choose from. Some of the more ornate pieces were $3200, some more simple chandeliers listed as $350. I have no idea if these prices are reasonable or not as I have never done any chandelier comparison shopping. The owner was very helpful, if a bit overbearing (though since he was crammed into the same teeny space as us, it'd be hard to be anything but in our face). He told us he could have any one of a number of chandeliers ready for us innediately. We're not buying, just yet, but this seems like as good a place as any to start looking when we are.

They have a good selection of jeans that look like they've never been worn and really nice jewelry. I found a bunch of jean styles that I loved and a really cool L.A.M.B. jacket but none of it fit well :( I did pick up a super cute black and white heart print blouse and a gold spikey bangle bracelet. The prices are very reasonable and the sales staff are friendly and helpful but don't hover which is great. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

this is a perfect example of an antique store in which you might feel claustrophobic if that is…read moreyour tendency. there is no order here that is comfortable to eye, to the shopper. i dont remember being all that fascinated by the furniture itself; they didnt seem all that antique to me overall or perhaps they just seemed drab. the thing about this store is that there seemed to be some real gems for sale. for example there was some gargantuan wooden asian sculpture of a boat with passengers, etc. it was an AMAZING piece....like it belonged to an emperor at some point. there were chairs that were close by that were themselves quite large, but what was most exciting about them was their cracked paint, faint white, and again, seemingly palatial quality. when you walked in you felt like you might have stepped into some kind of haunted house perhaps. the ceiling was covered with chandeliers that all seemed to be tuned to a delicate and creepy enough level that gave this room something of an edward gorey feel. i saw one that was wrought of iron - one of those ones you might imagine crashing down on your head to deal the final blow on your vampiric self.
