We love dancing at Matthews Ballroom. The other dancers are super-friendly. They have parties every Friday night after group classes and the first time we went some couples invited us to dinner. More importantly, the instruction is excellent. They are very well-prepared and knowledgeable, and they listen well. They meet you where you are and don't high-pressure you to do things you aren't interested in. Their group classes are outstanding. They will get you dancing quickly. The studio is beautiful. It is in an old building with great ambiance. You sometimes feel like you are in a movie scene as you enjoy the old wood floors and the views of downtown Matthews. They have a wide variety of group class levels, so you can dive in and feel comfortable no matter how much experience you have. This has been a great empty-nest hobby for us! read more

These are not private lessons as advertised. You share the dance floor with others who may be learning an altogether different style, so the instructors are always changing/fighting over the music, and you're dodging other dancers, which is very distracting and aggravating. You also don't get to pick the dance you want to learn because they want to push a tier level plan on you. As part of the "package" you get group lessons, but there are so few men attending, as a woman you wind up dancing by yourself until you're next in line for the lead guy. It's very expensive for semi private lessons. IMO you'd learn as much for a lot less taking a group lesson somewhere else, and the men to women ratios are usually better - I know this from experience. It's in a great location, good studio size, the instructors were knowledgeable and nice enough, but it's very much chain/corporation minded and not focused on the individuals needs and wants. read more

Planet Ballroom is an excellent venue for learning ballroom and Latin dancing. The instructors at the Matthews location are so good at what they do! They are kind and patient and knowledgeable. The classes and lessons teach in an incremental way that ensures success at any level. I highly recommend it! My husband and I love the time we have together on the dance floor. read more

Great Studio with a great Atmosphere! All the teachers are awesome and really make learning how to dance very fun and easy! I was really skeptical about trying something brand new, but they are great with new students and made feel welcome from the moment I walked in the door! I love me some PB :) read more

This is something I've always wanted to do. I am happy with my lessons and having a lot of fun. The group classes are full of people who help each other and encourage progress. Lots of social interaction and a great way to meet new people. read more

We love this place! We are still completing our introductory offer, and have so much fun each time we go. The instructors are upbeat, likable, friendly and patient. They have been dancing for over 20 years.... us - not even 3 weeks... you might expect beginners like us to be frustrating to such talented people. Not so at all. They seem to have fun teaching us and are extremely pleasant and joyful. I thought I would be nervous and embarrassed. We are not at all. It is the highlight of our week. It takes the place of going out to eat on Friday night. It's much more fun, and as a bonus we are moving, and working on something together. Could not be more pleased. read more

Planet Ballroom seems to only care about money and not about their students. I have been at planet ballroom for about 7 months and at first I loved it but now I am completely disgusted. I pay over $400, a month, is ridiculously expensive amount considering. It was also distressing to hear an instructor talk about other students behind their backs. Also when I felt I was treated rudely when it came time for the termination of my contract. I would not recommend this dance studio to anyone, especially new students to ballroom dance. read more

Over the past six months, Barbara Morgan, her daughter Morgan Eaves, and most recently Layne Barter have intentionally engaged in racially subjective communications directly to the parents followed by a video to the children. Specifically, when communicating hair requirements for competition season Morgan Eaves so boldly pens the below communication to all parents directing styling of hair based on skin complexion. See below notations to "dark skinned". This was then followed up with an eyeshadow make up tutorial, from Layne Barter, posted on YouTube (has since been removed) detailing the shade of eyeshadow to use for "light skinned honeys" and "dark skinned lovelies". This video was posted to the dance team's Band social media site for the girls to watch and learn. Please note, because this video was removed after I voiced concerns, I was only able to chapter the cover page of the video-see below. When myself and other parents expressed concerns about the inappropriateness of the video AND the email, the owner Barbara Morgan responded "I don't see anything wrong with what was said in the video or in the email". In response, other parents continued to explain in more detail (almost to the point of begging and pleading) the level of inappropriateness of these communications to Barbara. In good ole fashioned biased style, Barbara resorted to posting a written statement on The Band basically telling everyone that the concerns of one individual(s) does not matter, and that the team is of the utmost importance. See below. Please note, there are very few African Americans or other minorities at this studio. At no time has she met with, nor has she since met, any of these families to discuss this very serious matter. In response, I withdrew my child and requested a refund. When I requested a refund, I was directed to an attorney she hired; where I received a refund of monies as requested. Again, there are only a few minorities at the studio. At no time has she, even as of the date of this writing, addressed this issue with those who remain. It's such a slap in the face and sends the message of I don't give a you know what about your you know what she refers to us as. In addition to this incident, I have witnessed Barbara interject herself in the middle of a sensitive family matter all in the name of making sure the child danced at her studio. There have been other instances of medical emergencies where the parent was NOT contacted. WHY? Because dance is of the utmost importance. After all whats a little breathing problem when in the words of Morgan "never let down your team".

As a divorced parent I lost the battle for where she dances otherwise she would not be dancing here. In fact the only reason she continues to dance there is because they are providing her FREE scholarship to dance there covering all the costs associated with the dance saving her upwards of 10k which is passed along to other parents unknowingly I just ask to be informed of what is going on and have been blocked and they have told my daughter they refuse to communicate with me regarding her welfare and well being and dance activities at the studio. I have gone so far as to get a court order for which they refuse to follow because I do lot want her to dance there. My advice is to stay away and find a studio that is inclusive regardless of disagreements. Because sadly this one is not Also have issue with kids bullying other kids and they not notifying go parents which has caused students to leave as well as they Rey to brush under the rug

Our young daughter had one class in each building, and had to walk from one building to another - that is, walk through a couple busy streets and a large surface lot - on her own between classes. The business did not tell us that she would have to do this walk between classes, and (more troublingly) did not have her accompanied by a counselor or staff member. For that reason alone, I would never recommend this business. As for the classes, my daughter (who is not yet a particularly advanced dancer) found her ballet class to be very remedial. I would stick with dance at the Y or some place that has a more safe and professional approach.

They treat the classes as if the children are on a competitive team, when my seven year olds just love to dance and want to enjoy the process of learning. Even though a manager eventually jumped in to help, the line was still taking up to 30 minutes. We actually wanted to buy more drinks, but the wait just wasn't worth it. The frozen drinks are incredibly refreshing on a hot day, but the slow service definitely made them harder to enjoy. I am hoping this improves as this was one of the reasons to get a season pass.

This is located immediately to your right when you enter through the Waterpark entrance.

such a sad ending, these PB dancers/teachers are the GREATEST IN THE WORLD. the teachers who got caught in the this PB web are working 16 hours a day to make this work. but it just can NOT happen. PLANET BALLROOM BUSINESS MODEL IS A FRAUD, sorry folks. no business can operate at these nose bleed levels of FEES, impossible. PLANET BALLROOM FEES are approaching 30%, just impossible. PLANET BALLROOM HAS many, many non- disclosure agreements to HIDE the TRUTH from all you poor dancers! PLANET BALLROOMS BUSINESS MODEL IS BROKE, always has been, thats why close to ten (10) franchises/owners have went BANKRUPT. IF WE HIDE THESE TEN BANKRUPTED STUDIO'S, WE CAN SELL MORE LIES!!! PLANET BALLROOM out of Matthews, NC is exactly what the FTC and the FBI is WARNING US ABOUT! Franchise fraud in U.S. The FBI website states: "pyramid schemes -- also referred to as franchise fraud or chain referral schemes -- are marketing and investment frauds in which an individual is offered a distributorship or franchise to market a particular product. If ever you wanted to feel absolutely glamorous and acquire lots of energy, you need to experience Planet Ballroom. The instructors and the students that you will meet there will quickly have you considering them an extended part of your family! My instructor Bradley has been my saving grace many times. Whenever I am down all i have to do is head to the studio and he totally lifts your spirit by taking you into a beautiful world of dance helping you forget or at very least take away your stress of the day. My husband decided to treat me to dance lessons since I had mentioned it would be a fun thing to do together. Well, we started at Planet Ballroom over 4 years ago and are still dancing at PB and loving it! He actually loves it even more than I do :) Our teachers have been great and so helpful! We have a lesson each week and can take advantage of lots of other group lessons and a Friday night dance. It's a very happy place to be! We get exercise, meet new and old friends there and just have fun. What's there not to love about that?! read more

We've been taking lessons since January at the recommendation of some friends. We look forward to our weekly lessons and are slowly but surely learning how to dance... Having a lot of fun in the process. Our instructor is very professional, energetic and patient as we learn six different dances. I have enjoyed every bit of my experience with Planet Ballroom in the Concord location. All of the instructors have been simply incredible. It is one thing to write on how you are treated but I see that the same service is provided to all who attend. My ONLY concern is the cost. Dancing is our new cardio! We love Planet Ballroom. When we walked in, we were greeted immediately with a friendly smile, we were given a introductory lesson which we truly enjoyed and made us want for more. Our teacher, Todd, is fantastic. He is professional, knowledgeable, and loads of fun. We have learned many dances such as ballroom, latin, and swing. It has been a great experience!! read more

Never thought I would actually take ballroom lessons, but having a blast at Planet Ballroom in Matthews! The instructors are hot. Just saying. Wish I had started here a long time ago. I love the way I feel when I walk into the dance studio! Everyone is extremely warm and friendly and right from the start I felt comfortable. The teachers are great, and are true professionals!
